What are the Pokémon TCG State Championships?

The Pokémon® TCG State Championships™ is a title event series where players in each of the three POP-recognized age categories compete to earn the title of State Champion! These events will be held in various locations throughout North America from March 4th through March 19th, 2006. Results of the State Championships count toward your Modified Constructed Rating!

Prizes are awarded to the top 8 finishers in each of three age groups (10 & Under; 11-14; and 15 and up).

Pokémon TCG State Championship events are operated by independent Pokémon Organized Play Premier Tournament Organizers.

When are the Pokémon TCG State Championships?

The Pokémon TCG State Championships will be held March 4th through March 19th, 2006. Check the Pokemon TCG website for event dates, times, and locations. Please contact the Tournament Organizer of individual events for additional details.

What does it cost to attend?

All Pokémon Organized Play Premier events, other than those that use a Limited Format (such as Prereleases), are FREE! So, there is no admission fee for a State Championship! Organizers may charge for side events run at these tournaments.

What are the player eligibility requirements?

Players who have won a State Championship event in the 2005-2006 season are not eligible to participate in additional State Championship events.

* To participate in the event, you must be a player in good standing and abide by the Pokémon Tournament Rules and all other applicable event rules.
* State residency is not a requirement to participate in the Pokémon TCG State Championships.

What is the tournament structure?

The tournament is run using the Modified Format and Swiss pairings. See the Tournament Rules for additional information about the Modified and Swiss formats. The number of Swiss rounds run will depend on total attendance at the event.

After Swiss rounds are complete, there will be a cut to single-elimination finals. The number of players to qualify for the finals will depend on the total attendance in each age bracket, with a maximum of 8 playing off in any one division.

What are the prizes?

Prizes are awarded to the top 8 players in each age category. Our age categories are 10 & Under, 11-14, and 15 and up.

Participants will receive a Pokémon TCG State Championships promo card, a commemorative State Championships pin, and four (4) POP Series Two 2-card promo packs while supplies last, all just for playing!

The top 8 finishers in each of the three age categories receive the following prizes:

1st Place

* A Pokémon TCG State Champion Trophy
* A $300 travel allowance to attend the Origins International Game Expo and participate in the Pokémon TCG National Championships. This award will be given on-site at the event. (Winners of Mexican State Championships will receive this award when they attend the Mexico National Championships. Winners of Canadian Provincials will receive this award at the Canadian National Championships.)
* Four-day admission to the Origins Game Expo in Columbus, Ohio
* 36 booster packs of Pokémon TCG: EX Legend Maker
* Other cool Pokémon Merchandise!

2nd Place

* 16 booster packs of the Pokémon TCG: EX Legend Maker

3rd & 4th Place

* 8 booster packs of the Pokémon TCG: EX Legend Maker

5th through 8th Place

* 4 booster packs of the Pokémon TCG: EX Legend Maker

How do I collect my travel allowance (all North American players) and Origins badge (U.S. State winners ONLY)?

Upon receiving your 1st place prize package at your State/Provincial Championships, the Tournament Organizer will provide you with a player information form to be returned to Pokémon Organized Play by March 30th, 2006. An Origins pre-registration form (U.S. players only) must be postmarked no later than May 8th, 2006, in order to qualify for the benefits.

The Origins pre-registration form must be returned directly to Origins at the address provided on the form, by the deadline given on the form, in order to secure your four-day badge. Players who fail to get their pre-registration forms to Origins in time will lose the benefit of free admission to the convention.

For the U.S. National Championships, the Travel Awards will be given on Friday, June 30th and Saturday, July 1st at the Pokémon TCG Tournament Headquarters in the TCG Hall. Additional details regarding pick-up times will be posted later. Photo ID of the player or the player's parent/guardian will be required to collect your travel allowance.

Canadian and Mexican Provincial and State winners will be able to collect their travel stipends at their respective National Championship events, prior to the event start time, from the Organizer or a representative of Pokémon Organized Play.

Other Information:

* Your deck must comply with the Modified Format as outlined in the Pokémon Tournament Rules.
* Bring your POP ID card, if you have one. If you don't have a POP ID, one will be given to you at the event.
* Every qualified player must have an updated "My Pokémon Account" in order to be eligible for the Travel Award.
* See the Pokémon Tournament Rules for more information about what to bring to an event.
* To participate in the event, you must be a player in good standing and abide by the Pokémon Tournament Rules and all other applicable event rules.
* Local residency is not a requirement to participate in the Pokémon TCG State Championships.
* Players planning to attend the U.S.A. Pokémon TCG National Championships at Origins should consider booking accommodations early. Origins is a very popular event, and the hotels nearest the Convention Center fill up quickly. A list of hotels near the Convention Center, as well as other helpful information, can be found at www.originsgames.com.
* See the Legal Notices for certain eligibility requirements and other information.

What happens after the tournament?

After the tournament ends, the Tournament Organizer will submit the tournament results to Pokémon USA, Inc., which sanctions the tournaments and will determine player rankings using the ELO rating system.

Yeah...I was wondering that too. But using common logic, I don't think that smaller-placing people wouldn't be forbidden from being in a States tournament. What it means by good standing(most likely) is that you haven't cheated during the season. But, I dunno...

hitmonchan93 Whadya mean by "good standing" Professor??(How do I reply there's no reply button)

Last year? But you placed top 4 in each states back in 2004, not 2005 :tongue:

Good luck, Clay.

OK State's Judgment Day is soon approaching... hopefully I can "Terminate" the competition, lol.

BTW, when does the registration start? I'm guessing 10 AM... didn't see anything about that or the tournament start time anywhere above in the topic. MPB, can you please confirm the times?

Only 1 week from today is the event. is everyone ready? Got your decks together? Do you even know what you're going to play?

Let The Count Down Begin!!!

~~~~10...9...8...7-Days Until The State of Oklahoma Will Be Decided~~~~
That's right, only seven more days until all of the fun of crowning the "OKLAHOMA~STATE CHAMPIONS"!!!:biggrin: As "old man" said, "Do you have those winning decks ready???" or "Do you even know what you are playing???" Well if you are in the latter group, it is time to panic!!!!:eek:
Not only will you win all of the prizes fit for a "Pokemon King" or "Pokemon Queen", you will win $300 when you attend the "Pokemon~National Championship" at "Origins '06".:thumb: Now at "Origins '06" that would be some serious spending money!!!:clap:
Beware!!! There will be invaders from the south of the "Red River"!!! The talk that I have been hearing, they are coming to take all of Oklahoma's top prizes.:redface: You cannot let Texas swept the "Oklahoma~State Championships". How bad is it to have all of the champions to be from Texas!!!:rolleyes:
Go all of Oklahoma!!! Get your decks ready and playtest today at your local Pokemon League.:cool: MP Birch will be in town on Friday night.:thumb:
Don't worry, MP Birch, you know I'll help the Oklahoman's defend the prize on Saturday... I think Old Man has the hook up on the missing cards that I need. What time are we starting the 1st round of this tournament?
I'm asking this because I may want to work a few hours in the morning before coming to the tournament.
Uh-Oh
After looking over this entire thread again, it looks like we've failed to mention the time of the event.
MP Birch correct me on any of this if I'm wrong.
10:00 - Registration for the main event. Registration for the last GBA tournament. Deck Checks.
10:30 - Game Boy Advance tournament. Continuing deck checks.
11:30ish - Main event begins.
There will be a lunch break after 2 or 3 rounds.
Did I miss anything?
