Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Origins Pokemon TCG Event Listings

I think Werewolf was listed but they let people come and go as they wanted to.

I see Origins is dealing with the loss of Wizards by creating their own Origins Magic Championships :/

So, you'll skip Nationals next year if it is at Origins? :(

I'm not ready to say that, but I'm really unimpressed with what I'm seeing from Origins so far.

It looks like there are going to be about 10% fewer vendors in the vendor hall. I'm not sure what that means, but it can't be a good thing.

It looks like the number and types of events are getting smaller as well.

And the guest list isn't so great either.

Aside from Nationals, Origins pales in comparison with Gencon.

On the downside for Gencon is the event date. It conflicts with Worlds and takes place after the school year starts back. So my daughter and I would have a hard time making it.

This year we're going out on Wednesday and coming back on Monday - we're doing the whole Origins thing. Next year, we might scale it back some.

Well, if years past are a tradition...

Origins has 2 main event for Pokefans...

The National Championship and the Professor Cup.

The other events, especially since there are no team events...are pretty vanilla.

Stick with the late nite M45 draft, Pokegym event, and other events that come together as you are hanging with your friends, new and old.

The vendor area is usually really cool, with an extensive selection of dice, damage counters, anime product and much more.

It will be a good time to hang with players from around the country.

It will be interesting to see if the decks played in the modified events the few days before gut changed 180 degrees for the National Championship.

I recommend going to Origins for the entire convention (Thursday thru Sunday). For those who got trips from winning Regionals, I highly recommend extending your stay (at your expense) to get the full effect of Origins, especially if you like other games. Last year, Vince brought Apples-to-Apples (a GREAT party game). I recommend you spend the time to learn a couple new board games, non-TCG card games, etc., during your Pokemon down-time. Diversify your leisure activities.

Agree with spending the whole time. We're getting there on Wednesday and leaving on Monday.

I will toss Munchkin into the mix of games to try. Very good game.

Question: how does one get points in the Prof. Program? I'm not going to be able to become a Prof. until probably Early May (I got bad questions on my test the past threee times, ugh...). Is there an easy way to get points and compete in the Prof. Cup? It's the only really set Limited toruney that will be any good (other than the Gym Limitied tourney) and I'd hate to get shut out on a point technicallity. Help, anyone?

Become a LL or judge an event. You could write an article for the main site, but that's only when they want em.

I am looking forward to being there the whole time and playing in the modified tournament Thursday, some league play, Professors Cup Friday, some league play, Nationals Saturday (and would be great if Sunday too), likely the modified tournament Sunday, some league play. I am also going to try to play some of everything. The things I want to try is the new Shadowrun. I haven't got to play that since 2nd edition. I am also going to play a lot of Dungeons and Dragons. Pokemon and D&D is all that is needed for me to want to spend a long weekend at a convention.

Don't forget the PokeGym event!
Also, Chrisbo should be bringing a suitcaseful of PokeGym shirts.
Bring your cash!

When is that?
Also, where can we order the PokeGym shirts? I don't remember if I already did or not.

Is anyone interested in doing an unsanctioned/fun Battle Royal format?
Its a format we've been working on in Sarasota over the past couple of years.
We'd need at least 6 players besides myself and PenguinMaster.
The format is crazy and tons of fun; let me know if you're be interested and I'll start looking in to it.

There would be a prize, probably a sealed box.

Again, it would not be sanctioned.

EDIT:
Some details on the Battle Royal Format (complete rules still being ironed out)

- Players sit in a circle or a rectangle (similar to team play) however there are no teams - this format is a free-for-all where every pokémon is eligible to be attacked by every player on every turn!

- Gameplay moves in a clockwise direction.

- Special conditions activate directly before your turn and directly after your turn

- 60 Card Deck; Modified; NO PRIZES. You are eliminated from the game when you have either no Pokémon in play or you run out of cards in your deck.

- Whenever one of YOUR Pokémon is knocked out, you must draw the top two cards from your deck.

- The last trainer standing is the winner!
I'm intrested, I have but one question:

If the opponent Knocks out a Fossil, must you draw 2 cards?

Question about the pokegym midnight tournament. is it construected, and is it unlimited or modified?

Personally, I'd like to make it a 2-on-2 event, since we gon't get to play many of those.
Chris, I'm sure, will prefer to make it Mutant.

People's thoughts?
