Why go to east Africa? As a black guy I can take offence to that. While we're on that subject. America enslaved my people for over 100 years, forcing them to work against their will, killing them when they did not. My people were objects and not treated as human, brought from their home land to work.

How about when one of my family members were attacked by the KKK and the police did nothing about it. Sleeping well at night, my uncle was killed by someone living in the same building as us in New York. He was caught 1 week later.

You speak of Justice like it's something easy to get. Do I wish I can do something about it, yeah I do but what can I do. I can go kill the person but what good will gome of it? I'll be the one going to jail. A reality check. I'm living it everyday. I'm not worrying about some other people from another country killing. I'm worrying about the people who live in this country.

I think you need to see the bigger picture.

I never said America was the worst country.

You vastly overrate the justice and morality of the rest of the world if you still stand by us being the most evil. Even in light of all those terrible things you mentioned (colonialism in Africa was indeed terrible; slavery was indeed terrible), the rest of the world is just as guilty of it.

There is a hypocritical issue in the West's (civilized society's) push for enlightenment values, yet feel content with imperialism. But even though we waver from enlightenment ideals, which are anything but an endorsement of slavery, the stronger we hold firm to those beliefs, the more likely a nation will become strong, prosperous, and just (legitimately just - not kabuki theater-just).

The P.R.C. rejects the enlightenment; and topically speaking, much of Sharia Law Middle East does. And do you know what these nations do? They enslave, humiliate, terrorize, and torment to this very day. They may not do this to blacks. But they do it to women; they do it to non-believers; they do it to converts away from Islam.

To say that a society that has wholeheartedly rejected the humiliation of its people (the U.S.) is lesser than a society that hasn't (several Arab countries) is a skewed understanding of the global world. Bin Laden didn't fight for justice; he fought to create a world far worse than the slave days at their ugliest. And that's pretty hard to do.

You do know the African tribe leaders did sell there own people for guns, cannons, etc, right? They weren't usually taken by force. Just throwing that out there.

I am not saying slavery is a good thing I'm against it, I am half Irish and 1/12th black, my ancestors were mostly slaves but I honestly think no one should hold a grudge against another race for enslaving their ancestor's, it's not like those people did it themselves or you were the one that was enslaved.

At above

When I see post like 'Move to <insert country here> and see how much better America is' post, I can't help but say that. the 1800's was not that long ago.

200 years is quite a long time unless you're a Time Lord.. .. ..

Vaporeon, it was a very long time ago, and I'd consider it offensive to me, a white guy, for you to be saying that.

That's because you are black, not African. I once worked with a man from djibouti, he would definitely not take offense because its true and that us why he left. Also, you should know, many eastern african countries are more akin to middle easterners, which resemble asians more than africans.

And, you should also know that blacks weren't the only race to ever be enslaved. Infact, a quick glance at a history book will reveal that every race and ethnicity has been enslaved at some point.

Good god! I leave for several months, and come back to see another good thread go downhill because of some pointless debate

Good to see some things never change =/

200 years is not that long ago. The slavery ban is still fresh to me. Some scars time can never heal and I was talking about Porii Sames when he made that statement.

You have to assume that not everyone on the internet is white and need to watch how you say things. The rest of America would consider us African-American. It's on every application and or every form you fill out. You can't just be black in America. I do think is say's on some Black or African-American. The History books do hold some weight and you're right about that, but most of it is what they want us to know.

You did hear about Texas wanting to rewrite the history books right?

Lol, why would you assume that I assume everyone is white? Even if I did, why would I need to watch how I word things? I said nothing wrong...

Applications say african american out of ignorance, that doesnt mean america considers you that. I'm as apt to call you african american as I am to call me european american. You choose that label for yourself.

Funny, I live in texas and I've never heard about texas wanting to "rewrite" history...nice try. But, since we are on the subject, maybe we should rewrite history, maybe we could actually be truthful in it this time

Hey, bro. I'm African American. Can I join you in this righteous fury?

^ 2 people can't solve anything. I'm not trying to prove anything. Just wanted to tell everyone that it's not okay to celebrate the killing of a person. Not sure how all this other stuff came up.

It does not matter who you are, what nationality you are, where you live, your past nationalitie's history.
What matters is what one does in their life to live civilized, peacefull, and to treat others as you want to be treated.

To say that what has happened in the past and being "vengefull" and carrying on the "hate" is a burden better left in the past and see WHAT YOU CAN DO to change the future for the better. THEN you are learning from the past, and in your moral choices you are choosing to demonstrate that you did learn from what others have done. And it is a two way street, as the inflicter and the reciever is an example for both sides that people can learn from if they do not like the circumstances that leads to more hate and hurt.

I am a citizen of PLANET EARTH, who lives on the soil called America, and the only thing I know how to best live my life is to recognize that other people live on this planet who suffer in one way or another. I am no better then anyone else, no matter where I live, my blood holds the same value as others, and I do not wallow in the ignorance of hate to continue to make my life any better at the cost of others. No matter how something is obtained, there are better ways then nit-picking at the technicalities and by-passing the fact that there are civilised ways of getting things done and not through hate and acting like a fool and mistreating others to get whatever it is just so I can have a better life.
There is allways someone smarter and stronger, but you can always one up them with KINDNESS and forgiveness-
