Play! Points.

I live in Central Florida as well.

There are 4 different leagues I can think of on the East side.

I will be going to States next week, but I won't be getting any Play! points for participating...

Is 15 too much? That's 5 major events for people without a league nearby.

The problem 2yrs ago was not players that didn't have enough participation in the game, it was parents that wanted a free t-shirt. Even then, all they had to do to avoid what happened is to play Round 1 as paired and give the wins to the people that didn't have opponents. Trying to improvise and re-pair at the last minute is what caused the problem.

Pokemon should not be discouraging any players from attending Nationals. If you've played in 3 City-Regionals events, that should be enough to demonstrate that you are a player.

15, yes. From what I've already explained.

Nothing in a hour+ Radius of me like I said before, we do have 2 spots but neither are big enough to league out.

Note, all your Play! Points can not come from league, you can only get 1 point per league season regardless of how many leagues you attend. Between the start of the season and Nationals you can only earn 6-7 Play! Points from league depending on how the League Calender compares to the Season Calender. You are going to have to attend tournaments/premier events as well.

Funnybear- Those without a league nearby can still attend Battle Roads/Cities to pick up points. They don't have to go to 5 major events to qualify for Nationals.

Unless you live in a place with little or no Organized Play, 15 Play! Points is very easy to obtain. As of yesterday afternoon (pre-Week 2 States uploaded) over 1100 Master Division players in the United States have 15 or more play points. With Weeks 2 and 3 of states, another Regionals and another round of Battle Roads, another 800 players are with in 5 points of the 15 Points needed to qualify for Nationals.

PokeChump- If you are in Central Florida, there are events in Orlando and on both Coasts. Where are you finding the information for your local events at? As a former resident of Florida, I refuse to believe that you have this great hardship finding events close to you.

1. Some people don't live in areas with much OP.

2. For people with other commitments/priorities, it's still a lot. That's a minimum of 5 tournaments to travel to, which some people can't afford (time-wise, monetarily, whatever), but they would take a weekend off to attend Nationals.

Is there any official rationale behind the 15 Play Points? It would be nice if we could have communication with those in charge instead of us coming up with theories to defend/decry the requirement.

I'm a hour + away from Orlando, anywhere I go in any direction will take a hour +. I wouldn't get 15 Play! Points from just the events that do come to this area (1 BR or city) not both, a season. It's just a bad spot for Pokemon...

I am a fan of the need for play points. It was crazy last year! I can't imagine just letting anyone play.

and it does suck to not have a league close by. I have 4 kids. Only 1 plays pokemon. but I am lucky to have a league in the city I live in. Even though it's a small city.

I can only offer three ideas:

1. Start a league in your city. It's pretty easy to do. That may not help you this year. sorry.

2. I don't think they turned away anyone last year who didn't have enough play points. But that may be because it was the first year.

3. Write a note to pokemon or a real letter or send a message to one of the people on here who do work for pokemon. Let them know your situation. I bet they'll do something to help.

Good luck!

I will look into the messaging/letter to Pokemon, and I've tried to start leagues, we're not getting enough people sometimes, as well with the 2 stores in the area being way to small. My luck I'd spend a couple hundred dollars to fly there and I'd get turned away. :p, It would be nice if Pokemon had a pardon for older players that work 5-6 days or in the Armed Forces (matter of fact I just got off and need to be in bed in a few hours to get up and go back..) a week like some of us do and take care of kids. (2) Specially being that one of the days I sometimes work is a Saturday when most tournaments are going on.

Most weeks the league I attend is me, my son, and a boy who doesn't play competitively. Although tonight there were 7 of us. I'm not sure how long Pokemon is going to support small leagues like ours. But until they close us down it might be worth a shot.

The league I came from had around 8 players. That was Wichita, KS.

oh interesting, that's good though. I've been told I needed 8 people + on a regular basis.

 You could always immigrate to Canada! LOL.

LOL, but I love my American Football too much.

Ya know .... I know exactly how you feel. This may be off topic a bit, but, I love Wasaga Beach too much (longest fresh water beach in the world - 14km's). We each have our own ideas of fun that we wouldn't give up. I respect that.

It's strange that the requirement to play in Nationals is so different from one country to the next. Given the fact that due to attendance it may seem easier (to some) to win prizes at a smaller event, you'd think the requirement to enter would be at least the same if not harder at those smaller events - not that I'm complaining of course .... it would just seem that fair is fair, that's all.

Seriously, considering most players are in the Master division, you'd think requirements would be fair all the way around and considering that (I think I'm safe to assume) that a lot of us have things to take care of and worry about way before going to a Pokemon tournament. I'm sure there is a amount of people that have kids and such that can make it to tournaments all the time but then again I can't. LOL..

You are wrong about that. I know a Pokedad that brought his sons to 6 BRs, 6-8 Cities, and 2 States while barely playing himself. He was short a point or two and did not get in. He was not bitter about it and will be playing this year.

Everyone has there own opinion, and good for him. I myself think the requirements are bogus, not really bitter over it but it's not much of a point to spend the money to go to something I can't compete in, everyone has different circumstances letting them or preventing them doing something. It's too bad Pokemon doesn't acknowledge that.

It's also too bad people entered Nats to get the promo swag and then didn't play.

And in the process held the event up by a couple hours.

Couldn't that have been handled differently? Like in hindsight, was that the right move to repair? I thought the rule was that if a player doesn't show up for their round, they get a loss. (And I think it's fair to say if you miss your first round at Nats, you should also get dropped.) At what threshold is it determined that there need to be repairings? I assume there is still some number of people who enter (with the Play Point requirement) and drop anyway, just wanting the t-shirt and promo.

Are you sure Pre-releases award Play Points? Personally I feel Pre-Releases should award at least 2 Play Points. You are supporting the game the MOST by buying product from PTOs.

http://www.pokemon.com/us/play-pokemon/play-pokemon-leagues/player-rewards/

That page does say 1 point per pre-release.

In my opinion, if you have a good local TO, the easiest way to rack up Play! Points will be by playing in a non-premier tournament once per month. You can earn up to 12, and they take about 3 hours at most.

Play Points are only earned in Official events not just non-premier tournaments organized by any TO. They have to be part of the PlayTCG series of tournaments.
