I agree that the game becomes more and more of a team sport (if chess is a sport, so is this)

Pokemon is not a sport, get over it.

Basketball is a sport
Football is a sport
Playing with pokemon cards is not a sport.

For someone who was supposedly Bobby's freind, I don't understand why you absolutley refuse to give him any credit.
Bobby and Kyle have been working TOGETHER on that list for months.
You seem to have the attitude that just because someone is in 11-14 they are not smart enough to build good decks.
It is highly insulting to tell the nearly the entire OP community that the national champion won because he used someone elses list.

For what its worth, I don't think Bobby considered himself a part of Team R when he won nationals. In fact I believe he tried to resign the week before that but found that he was banned from the forums.

Aside from Ryan's arrogance,
I agree that the game becomes more and more of a team sport (if chess is a sport, so is this) as time goes by simply because X heads are better than one. Having good players to bounce ideas off of is going to lead to better decks and better lists.

In 2004 I introduced a proposal to run a "Florida Invitational" which was a multi-day tournament designed for teams to compete together based on a points system (like a track meet). The idea didn't take off. I guess I was ahead of my time.

Kyle said he used his new list, and that Bobby got it virtually right before the tournament.

Less pokedrama, plzthx.

Chess isn't a sport because a sport has to involve some sort of physicality, or prowess in a physical aspect.

Well if it wasent for teams pokemon would be ruled by ex decks and power. Thanks to teams this games metagame has been based on being shattered by new decks that nooen sees. The out of left field decks that coem ina nd crush the entire competition. Thats why this game is so great because it can think that there will be great decks that will rule the day and a new deck can sneak up and wash out all the big hitters.

Ohh and congrats to martin for making the phantom deck that took over nats. Thst was impressive.

Pokemon is as much as a sport as Golf and even the up and coming poker tourney's. I would enjoy watching pokemon TCG on tv, it would be great!!! Oh and I agree with RuleMaster, when your on a team, its all about helping each other out with decks and playing tips but when it comes to the actual matches themselves, your pretty much on your own. Since you might just end up facing one of your
teammates during the tourney.

in in golf you actually do physical activity and deffinatly requires much more skill than Pokemon does. It takes alot of practice and you need dedication to be good at golf.

Take Martin, our National champion. He was given his deck the nigth before the tournament. He won Nationals with a deck hes never used before. How much practice did that take? Close to none. How much dedication to the deck was that? Close to none. He even said he didn't like the deck.

In conclusion, Pokemon is not a sport.

ps. poker is on tv because alot of people play poker while not even close to as many people play pokemon.

Golf takes physical activity. Laying down pokemon cards isnt. Sports have some sort of physical activity, and pokemon does not do that, and judging by the weight of half the people that play, it's fairly obvious.

E4 is taking on any 5-man team challengers at Worlds.
If I can get there, I'm sure that Jimmy and I will be able to put together a team that'll give it a go. Per the rules I established in my "A New Type of Team Play..." article, agreed?

Pokemon is a team activity, currently with a potential of being a team competition.

We had team play for the first time in the Washington State Gym Challenge it was a lot of fun. We broke it down by age category so teams had to be at least 3 players in the same age group. But there was no limit to how many members could be on a team. Just like a Cross Country event only the top finishers (for us the top 3) counted for the team scoring but all players including players not particpating on a team figured in the scoring. The final swiss placings were used to determine the winning teams. It was an absolute blast and we hope to do it again next year. We had over 13 teams particpate and cool certifcates were awarded to the 3 winning teams. For more info on this go view the Washington State Gym Challenge posting in the Regionals/Gym Challenges folder.

Curling is a sport, yet when I turn on the telly I see some beer-belly man sliding down the lane accompanied by two janitors with broom-sticks..

Me things the boundaries of what is a sport and what's not a sport isn't that clear..

Sorry to those actually talking on topic here.

WHo cares if it is a sport or not? That's not the topic, the topic is how a team effort is changing the game.
