Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Pokemon... demonic? I think not.

Yu-Gi-Oh is very demonic because it deals with summoning monsters from hell and the shadow realm. Pokemon is much different in that it features fictional creatures that aren't evil demons from the underworld.

"Mewter"

" To achieve your goals in Pokemon you begin to believe it's OK to cast spells, use psychic powers, magic, poison, cheat, steal, deceive or kill others. You begin to believe these things, because many of the people who control our entertainment have lied to you, and have told you to believe that it is OK to take part in them."

I don't think Ash or May cast spells on their Pokemon, nor do Pokemon cast spells on one another.

"Overall, Pokemon is teaching you how to practice witchcraft and sorcery. It is teaching you to put your trust in Satan's occult forces which are in reality "demonic spirits". Satan wants to attract you to these things by making them fun for you to play or watch on TV, while in a sneaky way, he draws you away from the true God who loves you."

Pikachu is a demonic spirit? What?

I'll have to bring this article up at my Bible study. I'm a very strong believer and a Christian, and so are many of the TCG players I play with. I think this article is trying to make Pokemon into something it really isn't. The game incorporates fictional characters that are in no way related to evil demons or witchcraft or sorcery. It's just a game.

Mildly off the exact topic, I find it strange that absolutly *no one* is pointing out that Lugia needs to be careful in his quest to inform his father. (Typically) Your parents are only trying to look out for your best interests. (This is a reach, but...) Think of playing Pokémon like smoking pot. Some modern science says smoking pot is bad for you. Some says it's good for you. Some says it doesn't really hurt or help you. When it comes right down to it, anyone can cite "sources" that support either of the three opinions... but when it all comes down to it, until you are of age, you *must* (generally) respect your parent's decisions. You don't have to like them, nor do you have to agree with them, but (generally) your parents are trying hard to raise you up to be a respectable individual. Do I think you should try to inform your father? Heck yeah. Do I think you should argue with him and get total strangers to seek him out and talk to him... well, that's a decision you just have to make for yourself.

To clarify something, I don't believe in smoking pot. Just wanted to make that clear.

As per if Pokémon is evil.. It isn't. Nor is it good. "Pokémon" cannot be "good" or "evil" - it's not alive and cannot make decisions. It's all about how *you* choose to apply what you put into the act of playing Pokémon (either the TCG or the video games) and what you choose to take away from the games into your daily life. Granted, you can get all of the advantages out of the game that bulbasnore mentioned - and if you take those away and *use* them, then you're doing great! But then again, there's things about Pokémon that aren't so great (and not just from a "Christan" standpoint). As someone else mentioned, the idea of Pokémon fighting is somewhat related to cockfighting - the only difference is that they don't fight to the death. Well, something tells me that if you had to roosters fighting and stopped them before one died, I don't think that would make it any less illegal (or immoral). Or there's the gambeling aspect of buying packs of cards trying to get certian ones that are worth more money.

Think of it this way. In the opinion of a good, honest Christan, is The Bible a "good" or "evil" thing? Now if someone takes a Large Font edition of the King James Bible and beats someone over the head with it until that person is dead, is The Bible a "good" or "evil" thing?

It's not the product, it's the person.

Watch it everyone. This is an example of a Christian who hasn't done their homework, has little idea what they're talking about, and is NOT a good measurement of the rest of the Christian community.

But.

A good lot of your comments are borderline "How dare they believe their religion is true", and frankly, that's bull. I'm not a Christian for kicks, I'm a Christian because I believe it's the truth. I've got a lot of friends who have different religions, and you don't hear me going at them, calling them arrogant for believing their religion is the truth. Granted, this person is an utter nutcase, and REALLY should look into the religion they claim to follow, (I could sit here nitpicking errors in their rediculous reasoning for hours.) some of your comments really are just as absurd.

Living one's life as if your religion true isn't "arrogant", what do you expect them to do? It's meaningless to pick a religion and then live your life as if it's completely without truth or meaning.

Granted, in some cases, calling this person arrogant would be entirely correct. This person has VERY weak reasoning for the basis of their argument, and obviously did very little research beyond a few 'soundbyte' verses. Completely and utterly rediculous. Expecting that the bible backs you up with so little knowledge of the material would be arrogant.

[EDIT - Made this post a while back concerning this topic, might want to nitpick over what I said for arguments in your favor. http://pokegym.net/forums/showpost.php?p=179512&postcount=47 ]

To clarify my own remarks: the 'arrogance' I was referring to was that person's attitude towards "other" religions, one of which _I_ follow.

I couldn't care LESS what THEY believe in until it impacts ME...or my community...with the "my way is the only way and the rest of you need to convert or ELSE"...

I got one apporach for you , You've been hypnotized by the pokegym and we are all plotting to release our pokemon form there Holding cells ( the cards) And wage war on teh earth , slaughtering anyone whoi stands in our way. MAke sure your dad knows that if he messes with ur cards he just might wake up inside a snorlax... hehe

It isn't the first time sadly...

This is one of the reasons why I am ashamed to be part of this religion. Such extremeists like this nutcase, like other extremeists, is trying to prove how one thing is made by Satan when, in reality, they are giving the religion a bad reputation. This is about as bad as the extremeists who said that Shrimp are an abominance to the world because of one little sentence in the Bible that said sea creatures with no fins are an abomination.

My two cents on the issue...

Sad thing is, I only have 4 months left in my house and he's trying to make me get rid of my 25,000+ cards. :nonono:

Oh, did I mention... this whole thing came about because he didn't like that I taped up a 2'' tall pic of deoxys on a bookshelf (my bookshelf, btw)! Yeah... kinda sad if you think about it.

My moms completely on my side though. She thinks he's nuts. He told my 7 year old brother he has to get rid of his 2000 cards and he can't wear his Pokemon T-shirt anymore.

I won

He couldn't argue with the 30+ papers I gave him that destroyed every piece of evidence he presented. He couldn't argue with my 5+ years of experience with the game either. He apologizes and is proud I stood up for what I believe in.

BTW, his evidence was a pack of Magic cards he found ("they look demonic"). Too bad they weren't Pokemon...

Now summon Pikathulhu to consume his soul.

Dangit, i was too late. I just got of work XD (work at FedEx)

Um... I was going to say, THE FRIGGIN POPE gave Pokemon his blessing because he believed it taught kids friendship and... something else good. Oh well, I saw it in an OLD Pojo (so scandolous!!!) magazine.

G/J with being able to work it out with your dad! Later.

Fun fact: The religious right do not follow very many of the teachings of Christ at all. In fact, Christ was pretty danged left of political centre. Modern-day religion as practised by the religious right is nothing but hypocrisy.

Fun fact: Since I read the whole "Satan made the other religions" thing and the Eden example, I think I should explain the "ye shall be as gods" thing... the only reason why Adam was thrown out was because that, given the fruit of Wisdom, and the fact that Adam had the "size and stature of an angel" in Eden, he would basically have been equal to God (i.e. had eternal life and the ability to judge good from evil). Therefore, they let him keep the knowledge and threw him out of paradise.

Fun fact: If you want to have a go at a TCG, there's a Yu-Gi-Oh card called Dark Hypnotist Lucifer. Not to mention the Genocide King Demon, Demon Summon, and many other such cards. Heck, M:TG even has a card called Contract From Below, along with many demonic-named cards (Demonic Tutor, Demonic Consultation, etc). Thing is, though, they're merely to add to the flavour of the game. You could even make a case against Ruler Of Heaven, Shinato because he's a "false god" or something.

Last fun fact: 90% of all sites that list incorrect information in their articles calling Pokémon "evil" are in fact joke sites. Stop taking them seriously and hopefully they'll go away.

Your father has made a grave mistake allowing you to play this demonic game. Your souls will be in my prayers. Is it coincidence that just as your father allows you to play pokemon the Pope dies? Probably, but it DOES make you think!

Moss: Are you planning on just posting spam on this site?
If you were some "unknown" member, you'd be banned by now for your last few posts.
Next one'll do it for you, if that's all you plan on doing here.

That article is cnotradictary and doesn't even reflect christianity, so much that I'm sure it's a joke.

1. Christianity is a sect of Judiasm, therefore, Christianity must have been created by something created by Satan.
2. Satan is not omniscent or omnipotent and therefore cannot percieve thought and found religion.
3. God does not condemn anything created that does not breed destruction, hate, or death.

There was also a thread on the same topic (but a different website) many months ago: http://pokegym.net/forums/showthread.php?t=7206. My comments on the whole situation are in the last post in the thread.

I'll look at the URL in the OP when I have the time (and the courage) to do so.
