Hey I've been thinking lately, ya know how MTG has "Magic online" where you can purchase cards online and play online and what not. Do you think PUI should do that for Pokemon? I think it'd be really cool and a really good idea.

For those that don't know what Magic Online is, it's a program (sorta like Apprentice) that allows people to play online, however they don't give you access to all the cards. You have to buy them and everything which kinda sucks but it's not that bad considering you can trade online and what not.

Anyway do you think this would be a good idea or a bad one and why? I'm just wanting to see some feedback, I think it'd be really cool and fun. It'd be a good way to playtest and help new players that haven't really got a league around them play and be active in the game if their area isn't really active.

Pokemon is not like magic, for one we don't have 6 million and counting players. So I don't think a cost-based online TCG would be all that effective for us. I like Pokemon TCG because it is the one most usable ways to actually be a trainer and go out and collect badges, challenge other players, and see if I can be the greatest Pokemon master. That is my player perspective of the TCG. Having it online really defeats all of this. If anything I'd much rather wait for a online game based off of the Pokemon Game Boy games than the TCG.

I believe it costs just as much to get virtual cards in Magic as it does actual cards. Even if it was cheaper, it wouldn't seem to be very fun.

I think it's a great idea if they implemented the cost idea well. Of course if there wasn't a cost that would be even better :D. But if there had to be a cost perhaps a flat fee could be charged, but everyone would have access to all the cards. Especially since, unlike Magic, the main focus of Pokemon is on inidividuals in the lower age bracket. It might be difficult to convince parents to pay for "virutal cards" in addition to real cards so the kids can play on-line and off-line. Although personally I'm waiting for a sequel to the Game Boy Pokemon TCG game, come on Nintendo get on the ball with that one. Imagine a DS version of the Pokemon TCG, you could use the stylus in a similar way to using it to play solitaire on a Palm Pilot, and play people wirelessly, now that'd be sweet.

Its an offically licensed WotC software that allows players to collect, buy, trade, play, compete in tournaments, etc with virtual cards. It is much easier to use and very interactive. A perfect program for those magic players who can't make it to DCI events.

It's nothing like apprentice. The game program forces players to play by the rules.

I think it would be a great idea! Although it may hurt the face-to-face gaming.

Online MTG booster drafts and tournaments were, for me, a lot of fun. I'd love to try it with Pokemon.

for me, i think it would be a neat idea. when i was in the country setting there wasnt much going on with pokemon, and the closest league was 3hrs away. that would be awesome for thoes who dont have access to league play and i would join in too ^_^

Depends if it would work for macs. ;)
Macs are AWFUL, they're oversymplified, cruddy firmware and very uncompatible. I know these things ;/;/
rofl

Besides, for just playtesting etc, apprentice >>>>>>> anything.

A good game of appr >>>> anything you hafta buy online any day.

I'd love to pay 50 dollars, for a online game like the magic game that is updated when new sets come out and such. It would definitely be worth the money, and it would kick apprentice so much. Come on, the only thing good about apprentice is that you have every card to your disposal. An online game, with nice images, forcing others to play by the rules, would be awesome.

Yeah that'd be really cool... like a one time fee for the program and then they release patches and updates like apprentice kinda... but with the pictures and what not that you simply download and replace. I just think it'd be better than apprentice because they could set a league up for us there... more people would know about it and it'd be more user friendly... plus I don't think firewalls are a problem on magic online. I really think it'd be a good way to get the game boosted some, especially for players who have far away leagues like was stated earlier.

I thought the topic writer is proposing an idea for an MMORPG... well, the topic title should be changed to Pokemon-e TCG Online.

If Nintendo were to execute this idea, the first obstacle would be security holes... This holes enables player to cheat, and unbalances the game.

Either way, I still prefer the real, hard cards. Remember, the cards you bought in 'Pokemon Online' is software, and software is the irreplacable part of a computer. Therefore, the cards you've paid for could be destroyed with a system crash, virus, and other online threats.

Anyway, can I ask that do the professor test ask about cards errata? Your answer is greatly appreciated. Please answer my question [thread=13136]here[/thread]

With Magic Online you can have WOTC mail you the cards you earned in MO.So you can do drafts for what you need and thne get the real cards in your hand which is really cool.It makes trading for harder cards alot easier.

Uhhhhhh...no.

The MO virtual cards are NOT redeemed for paper cards. What you purchase when you draft or buy boosters are just the MO virtual cards. Sometimes paper cards are awarded as PRIZES in tourneys, etc...but there IS no one-to-one redemption.

Pokemom, I remeber reading on the software package for MTGO that once you completed an entire virtual set, you could redeem those cards for the actual paper cards. It's been a while since then though (Gencon '02, and I was too busy with Magi-Nation to pay much attention to Magic).

No reason it shouldn't. Macromedia Flash based play backed by a database. Pretty easy and full media support would give you some extra features to the cards (your cards could make the cry of the PKMN as on the GB, or something. Dragonite could wink at you or Charizard breath fire. It would be really hot.).

Pokemom- They can be redeemed for paper cards. I know people that play on the software and they've told me about it before.

I think this would be a great program for pokemon. It would do so much for the game.

I just doublechecked this with a with a fellow WizO: the ONLY way one can 'redeem' Magic Online cards for paper M:tG cards is to collect the entire set of an expansion...just getting a single desirable card in virtual form does NOT mean one can redeem it immediately for a paper one.

It does sound like something that would help benefit people very much in terms of increasing player skills, however i never see this happening. Why? becuase the pokemon player pool is not big enough and will, most likely, never be. A tough, but true reality.

Sorry guys, looks like apprentice is what we are delt to deal with.
