Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

proper pokemon tcg etiquette

Things like firm handshakes and being professional? I thought this was a game not a career.

Major national sports like Football and Basketball are also "games"

Remember that some people's decks are desighned to donk so that's just like saying sorry my deck was too good.

Not really, more like sorry I was lucky, even though my deck losses to any SP deck with a decent hand. (if were talking about Shuppet.)

yes we're talking about shuppet donk, but remember it's not luck if around 45-50 of the cards in shuppet donk are designed to get an energy, and an expert belt on shuppet.

Yes, but I'm not refering to your deck. Shuppet is designed to do that even though the deck takes some hard losses to if they open Spiritomb or Turn 2 Defen. I'm refering more to the opponents start. If Shuppet doesn't donk its odds of winning drop considerably. It also IMO has a very bad SP match up.

As a League Leader, Judge and competitor I absolutely looooove this article!! The Donk apology is just class, a Donk is a win, plain and simple, not dumb luck, because really, the game relies on coin flips and rampant shuffles... if you can Donk you earned the win by having a fast build, you had as much of a chance of your opponent as getting a donk, but if you opted to play Machamp instead of Dialgachomp it doesn't make you a bad player for using a build that is designed to get the OTK. Also, maybe calling it "Gentlemanly Handshake" may not have been the best name for it just because of the vast quantity of female players out there, but when you introduce yourself at a tournament and you're preparing to engage in a game w someone new you want to make a good impression, and a good handshake does that... you don't need to crush the other player's hand but at the same time no one wants to shake hands w a dead Magikarp... Furthermore, a printed deck list is a God send to any Judge or TO, there are few things worse than delaying a tournament because there are players who write chicken scratch (myself included) and opt to hand write their list, last minute, as hastily as possible which almost always results in either the necessity of a Rosetta Stone or calling the player to the front to fix the mess. I know not everyone can print their list out, so if you can't be a decent person and take the time the night before (or even 2 nights before if you had to work or study or something else before) to handle this required task properly... Finally, a little B.O. control is just common courtesy, it's not really even a necessity for proper etiquette, do your self image, your friends, your parents and every other person you see a favor and bathe (yeah, w soap!!), use some deod and if you're feeling a little ambitious some toothpaste and mouthwash never hurt either... look at this through the eyes of the other person, some hygiene, manners and a little extra effort for the sake of another human isn't too much to ask for... so yeah... thanks for hearing me rant... Lol!

---------- Post added 09/27/2010 at 02:23 PM ----------

and yeah, before anyone asks... I recently played Machamp, DonkPhan, and a speed version of Charizard (2/4 wins by Donk) Lol! I have muscle issues that have been operated on in my right hand but I'll still shake a hand like a Champ, I religiously print my deck lists when I play and am seriously considering rewarding players that do the same when I judge and I definitely shower (w soap and shampoo), brush my teeth, make sure I have gum/mints w me in case i do eat at a tournament and even throw on some cologne for the PokeLadies... so yeah, I follow my own ideals for tournament etiquette...

Believe it! *winks and gives thumbs up!*

To those who feel like me punching someone in their face and taking their binder in wake of them displaying a horrific attitude and an overwhelming sense of poor sportsmanship is counterproductive and an overreaction - I agree with you. Hence the reason I've never done such a thing. This is just an urge that I have gotten in the past. I value being able to compete in tournaments more than revenge against someone acting like a tool... But, don't push me. LOL

Excellant article, and good points before we even leave for the event, everyone who is playing already has their decklist and tools of the trade in hand so all thats left is the deck check and we are free to check out the facility, have a drink/smoke, visit with seldom seen friends and trading of course
And by all means dark necks do not always mean filth, sometimes diabetes could be a factor be understanding, if it stinks there is no excuse and makes me wish for a DONK even if I lose, a little common sense is always appreciated:thumb: we are americans afterall not French, and NO POKE is right about the handshake, my arthritis and various other injuries have made my hands delicate, but a firm handshake is preferable just don't rebreak the bones that have already re knitted already please

Rokman: Please explain the proper pokemon tcg etiquette to a sableye start. I feel like a jerk everytime the other guy asks heads or tails. I think one of the points you touched on ( preparing dice before attack is announced) really gets under my skin. Sometimes I will play an unneeded plus power just so they have to change it. Reallly Realllly erks me. I think another thing that should be added to this list is to not call your opponents build idiotic. It hurts mine and sableyes feelings.

It matters if you both have a sableye start lol

^This. Even if you have Sableye, don't act any different during the initial stages. flip the coin, declare the result, and then flip. If they get hasty and start to draw, just say something like "Wait!" and they'll stop. Sableye's common enough that a lot of poeple don't bat an eyelash now.

It makes you a bad player because you figured you couldt win a game so you go with a less then 50% chance to win the game without a game. And even then, a donk is a lucky win, Id always apologize to my opponent, its a cheap win, not saying you shouldnt take it if its there, but acting like youre proud of it / like it would proof youre a good player?

"you had as much of a chance of your opponent as getting a donk" not true, your opponent didnt have the chance because of the coin flip, so guess what you are? lucky...

Sorry, is some of this quoting someone else?
Because it reads like three different posts/opinions.
Please use the quote function to make things easier to read.
