Hey all, I just got back from Madison, so I figured I'd post my report!
I was playing
Sceptile/ex/Milotic ex, which had a great theme behind it because it could Knock Out pretty much anything with Slashing Strike, and Fire would go down to Milotic ex. I did a weeks worth of playtesting with it, and it worked
FAST.
So, anyway, we got there at 10:20am, and didn't do all that much until the Tourney started. I mingled, talked with people, helped Team TIY get their decks ready, etc.
Yeah, so, anyway, here it goes. Sorry for the lack of information, but I have a poor memory right now!
Round 1 vs. Rock-Lock + Magcargo (Ice'Cold)
I had the perfect setup. but I played too aggressively, so he wasted my Sceptile with a Scambled Cargo and finished the whole game with the same Cargo. Whoaaaa!

Round 2 vs. Blaziken ex + ??? (Julie B. aka Bigginzzz's Mom)
This was funny! Sad, but funny! We were just joking around about how funny it would be if we had to play each other, and, of course, we did. I started with a Dunsparce and something else, and she started with a Torchic. I got to go first, and I wanted to Strike and Run to get out a Feebas because I had a Milotic ex in my hand, but both of my Feebas were in my prizes, so I couldn't, so I got Horsea out instead. Then, stuff happened, and on her second turn she had the BEX out with 2 Energy and it killed my Roselia, and then killed everything else. She knocked my Pokemon down like bowling pins at a bowling alley! I couldn't beat it, so I DIED to the BEX!!!

Round 3 vs. Ludicargo + Dark Steelix (Bullados)
This was a close game. Well, not really. I managed to take down one of his Dark Steelixs with the Emerald Sceptile (Swift), but he ended up taking that out afterward with another Dark Steelix. That thing proceeded to kill me for the rest of the game, but I kept using Green Heal and retreating and doing a whole ton of annoying things to him to really mess with his mind. I was hoping that he would just conceed and declare me the winner of wits, but unfortunately my plan backfired and he loaded the Dark Steelix with so much Energy and loaded my Pokemon with so much damage that he had to take a picture of it. I'M NOT KIDDING YOU! He murdered me in the end, but it was satisfying in a way knowing that our match went on for a good 5-10 minutes after time was called. (Sorry Judges, but I couldn't just
lose! )
Record: 0-3 : 0pts
At this point, I'm feeling great about myself. My deck was working just the opposite I thought it would, but it was in a satisfying way. I suddenly realized that I was part of a much greater thing, although at the time I didn't understand it. Later, I found out that it was something called hunger that I felt a part of, but like I said, I didn't realize it at the time. Oh well, heinsight is 20/20 or whatever!
Round 4 vs. Salamence ex/Walrein/Magcargo
Murdered. I got murdered. I had a pitifully awful draw, and although he didn't really have anything that great going, he still managed to get Salamence ex ready to kill my Pokemon, and I couldn't really stop it. Again, I tried to psyche him out using my superior confusion skills, but again, he didn't buy it (and I even told him "Hey, look behind you!" about twice... sheesh!). Man, these people are a tough bunch! So, Salamence ex murdered me. Surprised?
Record: 0-4 : 0pts
Okay, so the few few games might not have looked too good, but I wouldn't let that shatter my hopes of winning a whole ton of free stuff! Although, the only real way I could come up with for me to place would be to either lure everyone with a better record than me (i.e., everyone in the room) to a big holding cell thing and lock them up, or hope that everyone decides to drop from the tournament because "they were just kidding". Too bad none of those worked out, but it's ok, because the Spirit of the Game says that you don't have to win every tournament. It's very important to give other people a chance too!
Round 5 vs. The Evil Sith Warlord
It was a truly epic duel. Although I was at a severe disadvantage, possessing only one lightsaber to his two, I had the training of the wise Yoda, so I had confidence in the power of the force and my mastery of it. We exchanged blows, narrowing dodging the fatal ones. He pulled out devious tactics, although I called for reinforcements (always a good idea), and although my "reinforcements" was only some guy with another blue lightsaber, he still assisted me in trying to defeat the Sith Warlord. However, when things looked good, the Sith Warlord called forth reinforcements in the form of a Jedi Mercenary (yes, it's true!), and he split his lightsaber in two, giving the Jedi Mercanary his split lightsaber. We engaged in fearsome combat, and although I was stricken with a strong blow, I merely PRETENDED that I was out of the fight (I didn't want to get hurt too bad- I mean, I was waiting for an opportunity to strike). However, much to our surprise, the Jedi Mercanary
turned his blade upon the Sith Warlord, and struck him down, and he proceeded to kill my ally, and run around the room screaming of chickens and stuff.
...Actually, I got a bye, and went over to the Dollar General nextdoor to buy some random junk. I bought a Lightsaber, a 3-pack of plastic Leis, and a 3-pack of hand-shaped flyswatters which were big waving hands that I used throught the tournament.
The bye stunk though, because that's the first randomly assigned bye I've ever gotten in my entire history of Pokemon. :nonono:
Record: 1-4 : 3pts
Round 6 vs. Dark T-Tar (Spinning Tail)/Pidgeot/???? [I forgot] (ST Pika)
It would have hurt less if he ran me over with his car. I really had an inferior setup (surprised yet???), and never got anything worthwhile out. I just remember a lot coming down to a few coin flips and me getting tails on all of them. In thinking about it, I probably only flipped about 10-20% heads all day. I never flipped heads with my beloved Blissey coin, which was disappointing. Running me over a few times must have added a few miles to your whatever-its-called-meter. (Brain don't thinking now.)
Record: 1-5 : 3pts
All and all, I'd say that the tournament was a success! It was a fun Regionals, and I'm looking forward to doing it again! It was very nice to be able to meet a lot of you in person too, and I gave away so many
Shameless Plugs and my new
Rukario cards to people that it's not even funny!
