Remember 9/11

To those talking about airport security issues.

Ever been to an airport on the worker's side of things? Sure, all the passengers get searched, but your terrorist could EASILY walk right up to the plane (in maintaince gear) unchallenged.

Here's what should have happened in response to the issue of planes being hi-jacked after the 11th:

Cockpit doors should be made of solid steel that is unbreachable by any common sort of tool. That's it. No security theater, just actual security. This restricts a terrorist at best to taking down a plane.

Of course, if you ask me, the Isralies do airport security the best, but their method would be found unconstitutional here.

I wasn't sure if I wanted to say anything, but I feel the need to make a small post for this.

Since someone brought up the number of casualties in the towers themselves, here's another number: 4,792.

That's the number of deaths in Operation Iraqi Freedom alone. (I have no idea if that's all there was, but it sounds about right.)

What's so horrible about that number is the sheer amount of soldiers who died who were under the age of 25. People who barely got to live life.

And what gets me is the lack of appreciation for their deaths in respect to 9/11. That is why they died. That is why we were in Iraq. (Supposedly anyhow.)

But I never hear anything about their deaths and great sacrifices, instead it's about the victims. Not that their deaths weren't horrible, but they were in the wrong place at the wrong time. The soldiers who died had no choice but to be where they were.

I only say this because 9/11 greatly upsets me at the lack of thought for the military. My husband is in Kyrgyzstan right now, and that is due to the events 9/11 kicked off. I am eternally thankful that he is an Air Force mechanic and therefore safe, because I could not imagine having someone tell me that he wouldn't be coming home as expected. It seems hard for me to care on one specific day when I'm pretty much living the repercussions of it every day. (My choice, and I do it by choice. But it's hard to not think about how things may be different.)

Just my food for thought, my apologies if I offended anyone. That was not my intention.

One thought for the random gun control point -- Gun control only affects my right to legally buy firearms. It will not stop the black market, where criminals most often purchase their weapons. And Waynegg is right about hunting rifles vs. combat rifles. Have you ever seen a rifle used for hunting bull elephants? That's really only a hunting rifle.

Okay, now I really feel like I stuck my foot in my mouth enough. >.>
