Having any match come down to a coin flip in world's top cut, especially the finals, is embarrassing to the game. Top 4 on up should not have a time limit as long as players perform actions within time constraints (15 seconds between action these days?). At the very least, the top 4 (even top 8) should have an 1.5 hr time limit. We are talking top cut at the biggest event of the year. Twas a sad day witnessing the masters finals come down to a flip. :nonono:

It seems a little ridiculous to me to propose longer time limits for top 4 or top 8, not because it's a bad idea, but it kind of seems unfair to other players in top 32 and what not. It should be (at least in my opinion) a time limit increase for all tops matches, not just the last few matches, so the game remains constant for all players.

Life is not fair, however we can seek to make this situation as fair as possible. Since there is simply not enough time available for all top matches, those considered the most important are allocated it. Ideally all rounds would be best of five, or perhaps more, since the more matches played the more it will come down to skill (and perhaps stamina). Of course some would argue that stamina is indeed part of what qualifies a player as "great".

I finally agree with you. Well, I don't think it's ridiculous, but I think that players who make the Top 4 (or any arbitrary point) shouldn't suddenly play a longer series. All players defeated in the Top Cut should be knocked out in the same fashion. Let's not send someone home from Top 8 because they were unlucky in two games but then give their victorious opponent three chances before they would be eliminated.

It wouldn't make sense to me to suddenly turn the semifinals or finals into a more skillful series when the players playing in them might very well have been different had The Top 32, 16, 8 etc. been given the same amount of games.

I do agree that if we were faced with an opportunity to only extend some of the Top Cut matches that that would be better than extending none of them. I will say that if it were to be 60-minutes and Best 2 of 3 and then 2-hours Best of 5 for Top 4, I would then rather just go 90 minutes, Best 2 of 3 for everyone. 60-minutes just stinks. Best 2/3 should never be <75 minutes.
