Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Rising Rivals Volkner's Philosophy Revealed

Yawn. This card stinks! The are several techs that help a lot more that this card will, or does. discard, draw six. Boring, and over used. While useful, it seems more like a throw-in.

Note that you don't *have* to discard. The discard is optional. This, to me, is a better version of Birch, which was used more heavily than I originally anticipated a couple of years ago...

It's not comparable with Steven's Advice, but at least, it's better than anything we have now. I'd see it as a slightly improved Felicity's Drawing.

If DP-GE is rotating out, this will become a staple. Need something to get the card draw power to keep fast decks.
With a lot of the decent draw supporters leaving, this one will have to clean up.
We won't leave any decent draw supporters behind. There aren't any in DP-SW.
I don't think they rotate out GE, as already said, they have to rotate only 3 sets either this or next year to come to PL-on after that. And GE is important for our metagame because of Unown G, Claydol etc, any setup deck relies on Claydol, with only Uxie and a few supporters like this one as draw source, speed decks and SP-decks would gain an even bigger advantage than they already have. And I don't think I have to tell anything about Machamp without Unown G. MD-on = RIP, so I really hope it won't happen.

Yay!!1! Prof. Birch, but better! You don't have t discard a card, so that PWNs! woot! I love it! :D

I'm sure I'll change my opinion once the format change is in effect; but, right now I'm not seeing it. I never played Prof. Birch and can only see this being good in a low hand count situation (kind of rare for me anyway). If a lot of hand manipulation decks rise, it will be the card to have - but are there any?

Not my first choice for a Supporter - 5/10

stop acting like there is ALOT of better draw supporters. You guys know darn well that the current meta is way to fast to keep that old claydol and uxie trick in your hands, deck, and bench. Manipulation and speed are key now with the advancement in SP decks, so good luck avoiding the power sprays and mesperits in the top tier decks(legos). I for one will enjoy powerlocking and you old one trick pony claydols and have my pretty 6 card hand. 9/10 easily. good luck to all you skeptics that are trying to find better.

i personaly love this card the fact that its an uncommon and draws about the same cards as uxie with out tyeing up ur bench is awsome it will be easier to come by then the uxies and u dont have to sacrafice pokemon in ur deck to put it in.

I'm not sure how effective Volkner's Philosophy will be, Looker's Investigation is already slightly better cause you get to look at your Opponent's hand and decide whether to change their's or yours. All in all Volkner's is pretty much Professor Birch with the cost of a discard.

Back when I started playing Pokemon I used to use Professor Birch to refill my hand at times but then when I got Claydol's and Uxie's it didn't really matter to me much for Birch anymore. It can be a pretty good replacement over Uxie or Cynthia's Feelings but I guess we'll just wait and see...

This is a nice new supporter but there are some really sick trainers in this set that are going to give SP pokemon a huge boost!

I love this card/. Its the claydol of the new set without the problem of power spray or filing pokemon space. This is the next staple of the competitive pokemon decks.

Volkner's Philosophy: the poor man's Steven's Advice.

Seriously, what happened to our supporters? Where's Steven? Where's Copycat? Where's Oracle? :\ We're left with mediocre supporters like this.

For the format, it's actually pretty good. Discard one and draw up to 6 is similar to Claydol and Uxie, so decks that don't want to run Claydol might actually be able to function now as there is some *decent* straight draw. Cynthia's didn't really cut it as you needed to wait for a KO to reset up.

I could see 4 of these being played in decks with a lot of non-supporter draw (Pokedex, Drawer (ugh), etc) and 2-3 Uxie, SP Decks and AMU come to mind right off the bat. Could be very good in both of those.

Decks with Claydol probably won't have the room or the need to run these, Cynthia, PokeBall, more Luxury Ball are just probably better.

Overall, here's our great Supporter draw of this format and next format. :\"

I (don't) like how they have to write that if you can't draw, you can't play the card.
They took this "no playing Trainers/Supporters without an effect" thing too far...

Otherwise, I look forward to this, and am not at all surprised by the fact that they chose to show this one early.

I would say that this card is good in deck where you need to discard energies. The bad thing about this is that it is a Supporter. That important is this card not, to use a supporter on this isn't safe. So run it with porygon 2 (like i do).

At first Glance i was like WOW!!! But upon further review this card is really not as useful as you might think.

The most popular decks out right now are galatics and fact is that with Cyrus filling your hand with tools supporters and energy And Poketurn picking up heavy SP pokemon, this card is very unplayable

I mean With SP Decks by turn 3-4 you are already holding a hand full of cards...power sprays/poketurns/energy/energy gain/supporters/crobats/cyrus.....thats already 6 cards in your hand...if you are running anything but SP pokemon then this card might be useful, but if you're running anything but SP yor chances wont look to good...and honestly in decks like machamp, i'd rather run bebes with uxie...thats just IMHO
