Fixed it.

*shrugs* meh.

I'm able to go this Sunday, I'm off from work and have nothing planned, so I guess I'll be driving 3 hours up to Rockville. Luke better be there, I haven't seen my lover for more than a year.

Ohh God, Daniel you have been cheating on me with luke? How dare you.

Who is our judging staff for this tournament. This is a major tournament with incredible prizes and I want to make sure that it is going to be as tightly run as VA was.

Hopefully, I'll get some people to help judge. I'm planning to post a help thread too after I get back from graduation since I don't like judging solo, especially at a GC.

No thanks. You're one of the least bit qualified, and I know that just by observing you for all these times.

Asides from that, it appears that positions have been filled. I was contacted by Laurel and the smart people decided to e-mail their volunteer offers, which I can most definitely approve of.

I hope to have a much better turnout and overall event than States. For those keeping in touch with this thread, I'll post a mini spheal of my speech on here so everyone knows what's going on for GC. This will be totally different than when I ran States (still apologizing for it) and I'm probably going to use some techniques I saw during Mid-Atlantic Regionals. All should go well; just pray for no computer mess-ups. :thumb:

Pokemonforever, confirm the start registration time. Organized Play says 10:30am, Dream Wizards website says 11am.
Laurel and Chris (Computer dude) won't be there until 10:45am. Thus, I won't arrive until about 10:40am. Come any eariler, and you'll be waiting outside by the door. Registration opens at 11am. This is confirmed directly from Laurel via e-mail.

Back to back posts merged. The following information has been added:

Already, she's more qualified than you are..

For those that don't remember Tara, she placed top 8 at Maryland States.

I will be attending as well. Looking forward to seeing everyone again, and seeing how big the purple tide can get.

Yeah!   Aardvark Gym! Yeah! Largest league on the east coast and 11th largest in the world! I was hoping she could play (she T8'd at MD states), cos' I wanna see her kick some butt again, but if she wants to judge, that's great, I can call her over to my matches for some favorable rulings to make sure I don't get 40th again! j/k.

You will not be let down. She reads the compendium and she's read all the tournament rules. Oh, BTW, she's a PTO. She definitely done her homework. I'm so proud of her! Now, if she could only get a Pokegym account....

We have sanctioned tournaments every Sunday at Aardvark Gym (only exception of course, when we get together and go to premiere events), and she does a really good job at judging. She also knows how to do manual swiss (including swiss n+2!) pairings if your software breaks for some reason. Speaking of software, for those of you who were unhappy about the late start of round one at MD States due to the inflexibility of the software (the judges and PTO were definitely not at fault), complain. I complained on the PUI forums the day after MD states (a thread titled "Individual Re-Pair", for those of you interested). Like I have already said, 80 people in one room getting up out of their seats at once and being told they can't start playing for another 30 minutes is definitely not a good thing.

Good luck to the judges and PTO. I hope you have good time. I'm sure Tara will, as long as the judges don't have that "judges can't interfere with a match unless they are asked to, even if they see players breaking the rules" rule that I heard people complaining about after MD states (not sure if that's actually true, but I hope not). And all you people thinkng you won't have to face Tara at Worlds, don't celebrate just yet, she plans on playing in at least two more Worlds qualifiers (Going to US Nats and Prof Cup).

Tara, don't forget to bring a HP TCG rulebook!

Everybody watch out for Griff, he's good. T2 at MD States! And he won an HP prerlease even after being late one round.

I'm quite aware of her background and position. The manual swiss, which I didn't know, is quite impressive. I'm sure Chris would love to meet her. He's been doing manual swiss since the old school days of WoTC Pokemon, the times where such programs didn't exist. But I do agree, a PokeGym account is a valuable asset. Maybe I can push some persuasion.

I think there were plenty of complaints going on about the program itself. I'm trying to aim for a computer-error free event. For once in my times of judging tournaments, I'd like to have ONE event where something doesn't go wrong with the computer!! But then again, don't we all?

No, I don't think that was the complaint for MD States.. Let's just say that things will be different this time around. Read my blurb this Saturday. Or listen to my small speech on Sunday.

"Judges can't interfere with a match unless they are asked to" makes very little sense to me. The whole point of judging is to make sure that people are playing by the rules and correcting errors that occur to the best of abilities. And I must add that there is more to it than just that. Nonetheless, if there is an error in a match that should be corrected, I believe a judge has every right to correct that error with or without player consent as long as that judge informs both players of the infraction and the steps that are taken to correct the error. But anyways, ya...that still makes very little sense to me and I doubt it happened in MD.

I do recall reading somewhere (not on that thread post) about something similar to that though. And there was an event in MD that can relate, somewhat, to that quote. There was one player who was using questionable sleeves and no one really mentioned anything until another player brought it up to me. By then, about 3 matches had gone by. Player was using Japanese cards with translucent sleeves. No one said anything public immediately, no one called for a judge immediately, nothing. However, you can rest assure that here, if a judge catches it, a judge shall correct it. I know I would.

Yeah! Thanx for clearing that up for me. I can't wait to tell everyone the good news!

Oh yeah, I feel that way all the time.

It is called "Active" vs "Passive" judging. At Worlds we used "Active" judging which means correcting something if it is being done incorrectly. For an event like this you definitely want to use "Active" judging. :thumb:

By the way will deck checks be performed (i.e. which would have prevented the issue mentioned above and also due to the new deck sleeve policy) ?

Look forward to seeing everyone on Sunday.
