So...When are we going to Find Out Trips/Invites?

Alleged 'advantage?'

It IS an advantage. There is no "alleged" about it.

That being said. I think discussion about GA Marathon/other topics does have great pertinence to ratings/invite structure. I just wish they'd announce SOMETHING by now.

There is no advantage! There are the same number of CCs that there would have been, the TOs and PTOs simply put them in a line, instead of spreading them over 7 weekends.

It's entirely alleged. There is no advantage whatsoever. They turned 2 months into 2 weeks. That is all. There are not more CCs in GA than there are in other places- they are simply ARRANGED DIFFERENTLY.

so if there was really an 'advantage'...how many players who participated in all/most of the GA marathon got ratings invites?

2. Omar Izaguirre. He went to 3 of the GA CCs, top cut 1 of them, but won a regional and got top4 at FL states. Steve also got a rating invite after going to a few of the CCs, but also won a state and got T32 at nationals...

There is no advantage. What is the advantage in having the SAME NUMBER of events but rearranging them into a span of 10 days versus 2 months? Half the people that attend the event don't even live in Georgia, and spend more time and energy just to play there.

No, there is an advantage. The advantage that I see is the NUMBER of City Championships, NOT the format of them.

I don't have a problem with holding the GA marathon, don't get me wrong. It's an awesome way to do that, and I WISH I lived in GA so I could participate, but sadly I don't live there, and so that is out of the picture for me.

The Georgia Marathon isn't even all in Georgia. There are a number of events in Alabama too. I don't see what advantage Georgia has if it gets to hold ~6-8 CCs. There is an advantage to that many number of CCs? Most states run that many, if not more.

I topcutted twice ;)

6-1 GA states
7-3 FL states
11-1 Regionals
is why i got my invite

Same. If I had no competed in the marathon I would be -61 rating points before states. I then went 8-0 at LA States and gained 12 pts. That 12 would have been closer to 30 or 40. Then went 8-2 at FL states and gained 9 pts. That 9 would have easily been 20-30. I then proceeded to go 9-2 at US nationals and gain 17 pts...

I finished like 40 pts above where the cutoff for invites was, take away the GA marathon and I STILL qualify for worlds.

There is no advantage. I could easily have had bad luck for 2-3 and had this happen.

Rd 1 bye
rd 2 Sabledonked
Rd 3 legit get beat
Rd 4 Win
Rd 5 T1 Machamp'd.

Then I'm 1-3 and lose 20 pts.

Again, my state runs 2, maybe 3 if I'm lucky. There is an advantage.

THEN TRAVEL TO ANOTHER STATE!!!! I could go to 7-8 CCs in FL if I wanted to. I choose to save my money and go to the marathon.

*Waits on response about how DPs college life is so hard and hectic that he can't get a job and travel*

Funny thing. Those who are actually dedicated to playing will make it to events. When I was in college, most of the events were closer to 2 hours from me. I still made the attempt to go out to those events. Sadly, my job is going to interfere with cities this year, but I'm going to make up for it by playing at states. Budget your money and make the trips if getting an invite is so important to you. You only get what you give back.

You forgot Colby, Goat Cheese, Feta Cheese, Blue Cheese, Cream Cheese, Alfredo, Spoiled Milk etc....:lol::lol:

ShadowCard wins the thread. But seriously, you've said that this is just a game many times in this thread, DP. If it is indeed "Just A Game," then don't worry about how many CC's you get and have fun going to the ones you do have. If you want more, you take the initiative of getting them. So what if the marathon is unfair to the people that can't make it. It's a 10 day event in that region of the country. IIRC, that's all they get for CC's. You can try getting some more for your area instead of trying to take away CC's from other people.

Then what you need to do is what I posted before. Try to start up a leauge and see if you can get more events in your local market or state. Ask your local PTO what can you do to help out.

Well, I've got one small nitpick here with Ryan and Steve: there "is" an advantage any area would get if it does a back-to-back-to-back-to-back CC marathon, when no other area doesn't. Even if it's next to the world's greatest metagame (FL), just the ability to hit up four consecutive tournaments is awesome.

THAT said...I don't think it's an advantage that should be looked down upon, or badly at, or "bawwww why can't I have that in my state it's unfair you shouldn't have it if I can't whinewhinewhine." It just simply is what it is.

And what it "is"...Is a very good thing for OP. So even if there's a minute advantage gained by the players who hit up all four, what different is it from being able to go to any tournaments in the first place?

Oh yeah, and post info soon POP kk plx thx.

What no one is mentioning about the GA Marathon is that it is a HUGE event. People from from all over the region: FL, AL, TN, NC, SC, GA... the list goes on. These 10 cities are one of the most competitive playing fields you can find. Going to these events doesn't supply an advantage, and going has a large chance of NOT gaining anything. The GA marathon has the cards stacked against everyone playing. All of the region's best make it, and are at the top of their game. Get over yourselves. The GA marathon is a grueling gauntlet, and anyone who earns points in it are lucky.

Yeah, I like to run thru the Silvestros, the Rolls, Vergal, Omar, others from FL. Then, toss in the GA crew like Paarth, Vic and a few others, throw in some TN competition (Memphis, Nashville and Sevier Co and Chattanooga areas all make an appearence....mult worlds qualifiers there). There are easily 12-20 ppl in the room that could walk into any CC in the USA and top cut or win it! Yeah, those points just pile up in the MAs division.

Some peopple may see a slight bump up, but the main focus of this event is aPokeParty! Its the holidays, no school (no snow is a plus vs the NE), see friends from all over the SE. It does have a mini Nats feel to it.
