State Tax Increase

Well, I was happy when the tax for nevada was at 7%

Then it went up to 7.5%, no problem

Now I get used to it and BOOM

7.75%

Makes me want to move to Oregon

No state Tax.

Any comments?

Oregon may have no sales tax, but the property taxes here are, I believe, the highest in the country. So it all averages out.

Be glad you don't have to pay both GST and PST on like everything you buy. >_< One of the few things I don't like about living up here in Canuckland...

Having no sales tax means they're just getting it from you elsewhere. It's only 6% here in PA. And yes, Marril, Canada's taxes are nasty. It came to like 15% tax for eating at a restaurant in Ontario when I was there. BUT, how else are they going to pay for national healthcare? ^_^ (Had to throw that in, sorry.)

in washington it is 8.9% so do cry yet

ya its bad up here, but we pay HALF of what the brits pay...something like 17.5% VAT i believe....eeek (this is not even mentioning their extremely high gas tax, road tax, TV tax, etc...)

yah quit complaining, we washingtonians got screwed on tax increases (we also got screwed on tax decreases, like decreasing the wrong tax so we middle class people take up more of a burden). We need something deductible, like state income tax =\

Ya not having a state income tax definately hurts the sales tax issue, but not having an income tax is nice as well. That is one thing i miss about being in the military from WA state, i never had any state tax taken out and i could shop on the bases sales tax free. its been awhile since i've paid anything but federal tax....kinda got spoiled

VAT in my country is 19% and in Belgium even 20%. (on food it's 6% because that's a frst need)
Income tax varies from 32% upto 52%.
For our health care system ,out of each income there is a certain % you must pay to the state, no choise.
Than we have so many other taxes you don't want to know about.
If you life in a country were less people have to pay for any social security system, there always be high taxes.

Sometimes it's even funny when a new law is made, names are founded to hide it's another new tax you have to pay.

We have sales tax(VAT, w00T!), but its included in the prices in almost everything here, so it doesn't seem so bad as it does when we go to the US, expect to pay $X for it and end up paying $X + Y%.

YA when i was living in england, it was kinda nice knowing the price before hand. but deep down i still knew i was gettin gouged that VAT. I shopped on the bases most of the time tax free, but occasionally i had to suck it up and pay some tax...lol
