Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Team Draft! July 17th... BE THERE! (Brookfield, WI)

LOL

I'm going to remember this tourney for 2 reasons...

The rebirth of quite possibly the best player that I've ever known (Adam, aka TS Crobatty)

and the RH Copycat he pulled after it had been passed up by *THREE* seperate players.

BTW Hypno, that was an awesome game we played. I'm sorry it had to come down to coin flips, but that's the way things go...

Also, just finished opening my packs: no Steven, no ATM Rock. I'm cursed in this catagory, I tell ya!!!

Well, after talking on aim for like an hour, i got everything
together and went and picked up brant and kellen. we got there
early enough, and i was able to trade a holo milotic from HL for 3
DRE's and an ATM rock. pretty good, imho. and since hypnos already
posted a very good tourney report, i'll just report my matches and
insight. keep in mind its 2 in the morning so i hope i remember
everything right...

Saw mewtwo, saw another, and when i saw the third, it was
on...a straight psychic deck.

3 mewtwo exp
4 mr. mime aq
3 drowzee aq
1 hypno aq
1 natu sky
1 farfetch'd sky
1 gastly exp
1 snorlax exp

1 dual ball
1 psychic cube
1 fast ball
1 apricorn maker
1 juggler

1 crystal energy
1 cyclone energy
18 psychic energy

And the tourney...

1.Me vs. Kellen
Gettin paired up with your teammate first round...oh well. Good
match, but mewtwo and hypno prevailed, and cyclone energy was a
big help. 1-0

2.Me vs. Adam
Very close match. He said he hadn't played in awhile, but it was
very close. He had water, including squirtle and marill, so the
low HP couldn't keep up with mewtwo. 2-0

3.Me vs. Kyle
Jeez...i was stupid in cycloning out his shuckle, then realizing i
couldn't do damage to it. 10 turns later...he's ready to stomp
anything. 2-1

4.Me vs. Ryan
Bullados...played a bunch of colorless from what i remember. lost
though. 2-2

5.Me vs. James
I never played this guy before. He just didn't get anything out,
and i was able to use mewtwo and right away. good comeback win.
3-2

6.Me vs. Richard
Team Chicago guy. Pretty good. He couldn't really get anything
good going, but he was nice about it and i ended up winning after
a few desperation attempts. 4-2

Ended up getting 4th in the tourney, which means i was the first
person to get no prizes. thats ok though, the real fun was the
tmp, and i was "psyched."

Didn't really change the deck, swithced in 1 drowzee the gastly,
thats it.

1.Us vs. NOBODY-A BYE. 1-0

2.Us vs. The Millers
Good game, they got up on prizes early, but Kellen's Dugtrio comes
through. 1-hit KO's a benched Magby, then cleans up the damage
i've done to his others. 2-0

3.Us vs. Richard and Brad
Probably the best match all day. Hard fought by both sides.
Richard was playing his gligar, and i think he had a dugtrio also.
Brad had an oddish and 2 moltres, and it was hard for them to
really hit us. ended up gettin one of our prizes at time, so we
tied, and it was a draw. 2-0-1

4.Us vs. Bullados and Adam
Cool match, hard to hit cause i didn't get mewtwo and kellen
didn't get out dugtrio. they cleaned us out. 2-1-1

5.Us vs. Danny and Brant
They put up a good fight. Danny got out Ariados, while i had up
snorlax, so i needed to load up 4 energy to try and retreat. ended
up doing Continuous Tumble and getting some KO's. We were able to
pull it off. 3-1-1

Ended up getting 3rd, and 3 packs each(total 6). Pulled a huntail,
jirachi, walrein, and chimeco. great deal considering the tourney
only cost $15.

Props:
-Broken Lizard for running the whole thing, which is a feat
considering it started at 10:30 and ended around 6:30 or so
-Team IRJB(me and kellen) for taking 3rd
-Team Chicago for making a good showing
-Former players coming back and playing
-Everyone that showed up had a good time

Slops:
-Computer for somehow deleting the first tourney after it ended
-Roof for leaking
-Shuckle

This was the best tourney in a long time, good turnout, good
format, great time. im thinking if more of a rivalry devolps with
the brookfield and chicago players we'll keep having great games
like this. very good stuff.

The good cards in my only 2 prize packs were Ninetales (My 2nd), Groudon ex (My 2nd), Steven's Advice (My 11th), and TM Rock (My 8th). :p

RM: I beat u with that Houndoom Darkness type...

HPHQ: I've got 4 Steven and 4 ATM Rock from about 80ish packs. I'd say that's pretty unlucky, don't u?

RM, I seem to remember that you did well enough; you got out the Hypno, tho it WAS really unlucky that you didnt get out the Mewtwos. Im still in schock that you picked up 3 Mewtwos for your deck. And, your partner DID get out his dugtrio; unfortunately for him, he decided to let you take the prize for the kill, leaving him with exactly 2 prizes, and me with being able to use a squirtle and a TM01 to de-evolve him back to diglett, killing him with my partner's Chansey. We avoided taking you on pretty much at all, lol, execpt for that mr. mime. I was really lucky, tho, on that one miltank continuous tackle roll--the ONLY time it works ALL TOURNEY, and it knocks your guy out, getting 2 heads in a row. If that isnt luck, i dont know WHAT is. I have to admit, tho, by all rights you should have won. you guys had the better decks, and I didnt get out any evolutions aside from a lucky seadra towards the end.

Yeah i remember the houndoom now bullados, sorry, it was late when i wrote the report...yeah, i used a farfetch'd and a snorlax with similar moves to continuous roll, never got more than 2 heads in a row. and yeah, 3 mewtwos...my lucky day i guess.

Thanks again to everyone for making it a great day! :D

Someone asked me why I run tournaments when they are so much work and I don't get to play.

The answer is actually pretty simple: I want to keep the game alive! By running tourneys I get to meet lots of great people who share my interest, and I ensure that there will be opponents for me to play against at tourneys in nearby cities.

A healthey rivalry between Brookfield and Chicago makes for some great laughs.

There is one bit of bad news: the .trn file for the first (sanctioned) stage of the tournament looks like it will be unrecoverable. This would mean that the tourney would not be reported and factored into your ratings, which are due to reset this month anyway. I'm waiting for a response from PUI to my email on this.

Well, at least I know that I technically made my Limited T16 goal...

Also, my tourney report (also posted here) is up a Pojo in the Killer Decks as of yesterday. Thats cool! ;)
(FYI, its the tourney report by Derrick Krenke and Jas Jolitz)
