Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

The End of SP

This is the end of the Tier-1 archetype that dominate when other decks should like Rain Dance, Yanmega, Gengar, and Regigagas. SP is TERRIBLE! I'm glad it's dying at last. They had that coming for three formats now.

SP is dead my left buttock

It takes skill to play any matchup, with luxchomp you sacrifice auto win against the rest of the format to make every single matchup decent, at most 60-40, which you can still lose.

People that say luxchomp running auto pilot have clearly not played it enough, I would assume that they just all whine since they get shredded by SPs all the time and stubbornly refuse to analyze their situation any further

just my 7 cents

lol, its cool that there is more variety in the meta now after the re-lease of HS triumphant, but im certainly not gonna pee myself in happiness over "SP's [supposedly] being dead" Its not my fault they're good. and even then, their only good if you're skilled enough to play it right lol. misplays are easily obtained with SP decks if not being used by a player skilled enough to play it right.

my advice:

get a decent list together, play test daily, tweak your list after each tournament, or even after league. anyone can complain about SP's being over powered if you dont take the time to find the "secret" to beating them with your own deck.
 I know right? At League today, I let my bro borrow my Luxchomp for 1 match and he played against a guy who played a counter SP deck, which was Rapidash and Sableye. He's alright at the game actually. My bro lost, he only took 1 prize. I used it and won. I like how SPs are a bit overpowered compared to other cards, but they take skill (or more skill) to play than other decks.

no no no. don't get ahead of yourself. luxchomp it self doesn't take that much skill.(2% to be exact.)
i went to a league in sd that you could play any deck. most people were playing sablelock and luxchomp and 1 plox. my friend let me use the luxchomp deck and i went and played with it. did not lose one match. all it takes is knowing what to snipe

0_0 Calm down! I know it's overused. I am probably taking DialgaChomp with me to Cities. Gotta love screwing up champ, dos and others with Deafen T1 ^^ Rarely happens, but it's so satifying if you do.

And I would assume other decks don't take skill to use either?

Machamp: take out rofl
Gyarados: swing with gyara with rescue energy hurrdurr
Vilegar: set up vileplume and poltergeist soisoisoisoi

Seems pretty easy if you ask me...

FINALLY DOWN WITH THE LUXCHOMP!!!! I really am tired of luxchomp its way too overused

That hurt me somewhat inside. :frown:

On topic; just as I was going to try Luxchomp and all the other great decks came with some many awesome counters and I think it'll be so much harder to build a great Luchomp... but there is still hope!

Looks like this post is a lightning-rod for people who either cannot afford SPs, or just don't like same people beating everyone all the time with them. Last option doesn't have to do anything with SPs, they would just beat everyone with Gyarados etc. I say to those people that say Sps don't take any skill: Up yours!(sorry to everyone, but it had to be said) One person from our league went to a big BR(25 people in seniors, where he was)with DialgaGarchomp. He had practiced with it for only a week, and he went 0-3 and dropped himself out. And he was in Top 4 at our nationals last year, so we can easily say he is a very good player. That proves ,that at least some SP-Decks DO take skill/enough practice.

Bloodbane brings up a good point. There are a multitude of things that decide whether an SP deck does well or not. The skill of a player and his build decide how it does up against the meta. SP is very far from dead though and anyone can lose with any deck no matter how good it is. It goes for any deck not just SP's.

All of this would be solved if people just went and tested the matchups, instead of playing thread theorymon on 'Gym like always.

To be fair, Dialgachomp is without question the HARDEST SP variant to master. I top cutted nats this year using Sablelock and I tried Dialgachomp out at a couple of Battle Roads, only to tank at every single one of them.

I admit that you are right on that concept, however I am of the opinion that Luxchomp is FAR too easy to play for almost anyone. On the flip side of your argument, numerous BAD players I've seen run this deck and have top cutted/had a very high winning record with it, only to lose to a superior player (playing the same deck) in T4. It kind of goes without saying that it isn't exactly a difficult concept to grasp. I'm not saying the good players playing this deck are bad. I know they're playing the deck to win, which is admirable. But I don't think anyone can say Luxchomp is an exceedingly hard deck when you literally control the board and can play almost any tech in the format to counter an issue.

Sablelock isn't exactly difficult either. I would know this having played it at a very large number of events last year. While my list wasn't a donk heavy list and it forced me to figure out how to win late game, I know a lot of specific lists were donk heavy lists and a lot of people got wins off of that aspect.

Again, I agree on Dialgachomp. It is a VERY HARD DECK to play. I thought I had enough practice with it when I played it, and its obvious I was wrong. I ended up losing to decks I normally would never lose to.

This statement is coming from someone who has all the supplies for Luxchomp and actually was one of the first people to play an SP based list during States of 2008. (I ran Legos at both VA and OH states with moderate success)

I eagerly await the arrival of Lost World to truly clean up this SP mess that has been plaguing the format.

Even that won't have a 100% matchup against SP's. I don't want to burst your bubble, but all it takes is a good Sablelock to waste you into nothing.

I have a hunch 80% of the players will have a party seeing 90% of all donk cards leaving the format.

I'll have a party when SP's or anything that makes them work to their full potential leave this format. Gardevoir/Gallade might have been an abomination for one season, however SP's have been an abomination for multiple seasons. I've never seen a format in any card game with a deck THIS dominant for THIS long a period of time. It was cool the first season. Then the developers became lax with the HG/SS sets and later Platinum sets and we are now unable to escape this abomination. This is unhealthy for a metagame. Change brings in more people. Too much of the same stale metagame can never be good.

If you feel confident in your skill and deck building you can make any deck do well, so it doesn't really matter
