Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

The grinder

funny how it's 'changing the subject' when i post when YOU are the one who originally took the thread off-topic by deciding to attack me for posting simple facts.

just suppose that the OP of the thread convinces their parent(s) to take them to worlds to grind in, based on the erroneous information posted to this thread about how there will be lots and lots of invites available through the LCQ and it should be 'easy' to get one. and furthermore, suppose that...surprise!...that ISN'T so, and the OP does NOT get in.

guess what, the OP AND their parent(s) are now very unhappy that they took a trip for 'nothing'. so just who is this player and their parents going to vent their rage to? those who posted the info they went on in this thread? NO: they will complain to the OP staff at worlds!

oh btw: capitalism 101 is more like 'make as much money as you can while still keeping the customer happy'...not 'make the customer happy, regardless of the cost'...

I agree with both sides. Yes, there is about a 99% chance that there will be more than 4 invites at the grinder per division, but realize that even with a sizeable amount of invites up in the air the chances of you making it (without taking skill into account) is less than favorable.

I think SD PokeMom is simply reminding everyone to remember that these are assumptions. Before FAQs for this year's World's were posted players assumed that the invite structure would be the same. Historically, that made sense but in reality it was not correct. We can speculate all that we want but the bottom line is at this moment the ONLY guarantee is 4 spots. I don't want someone taking speculative information from this thread and using it as a motivation to plan a very expensive trip to end up disappointed when someone's guess was wrong.

How can a trip to Hawaii be disappointing?

Total players: 742

2008:
Jr: 117 players, 7 rounds, 25 invites
Sr: 157 players, 8 rounds, 22 invites
MA: 374 players, 8 rounds, 2 flights, 12 invites
Total players: 648

2007:
Jr: 54 Players, 6 Rounds, 13 invites

2006:
10 & Under: 95 players, 7 rounds
11-14: 124 players, 7 rounds
15 & Up: 293 players, 9 rounds
Total players: 512

2009 Was an awesome year to "grind in". I hope there will be as may slots this year!

So how many people are invited in, for example, Masters?

From here (http://www.pokemon.com/us/organized-play/championship-series/2010-world-championships/invitations/)...

5 from Latin America Zone
10 from Asia Pacific Zone
50 from European Zone
40 from North America Zone

That's 105 based on invites.

How many from the previous year's World Championship?

How many from 2010 National Championships?

Let's take a guess and say that if everyone who was invited shows up to play it would come to somewhere in the 140 player range.

Now, if only 120 of those invited show up would PUI take the 4 Grinder players only or would they take the 4 plus some additional players to make up for those players who didn't show?

I find it hard to believe that PUI doesn't have an idea/approach already regarding this? (It's not their first rodeo.)

For the reasons that SD PokeMom stated, it would be nice if there would be some statement from PUI to let people know how this is going to work and then they (the parents and players) can make a more informed decision.

To answer your question...
2009 Worlds: 7 invites
Japan: 6 invites

APAC
Number of National Invites: 9 (Australia:2, New Zealand:2, Malaysia:2, Singapore:2, Hong Kong:1)
Number of Rating Invites: 10
Number of Double Invites: 4
Total invites: 15

SA
Number of National Invites: 2 (Argentina:2)
Number of Rating Invites: 5
Number of Double Invites: 2
Total invites: 5

NA
Number of National Invites: 16 (USA:8, Canada:4, Mexico:4)
Number of Rating Invites: 40
Number of Double Invites: 7
Total invites: 49

EU
Number of National Invites: 46 (Austria:4, Belguim:2, Czech:2, Denmark:4, Finland:4, France:4, Germany:4, Italy:4, Netherlands:4, Norway:4, Portugal:2, Sweden:2, Switzerland:2, UK:4)
Number of Rating Invites: 50
Number of Double Invites: 22
Total invites: 74

Total invites: 156 for the Masters Division.

Expect a good number of them not being used.

---------- Post added 07/12/2010 at 03:47 PM ----------

As far as I know, 5 of the APAC invites will not be used.

Possibly only 2 of SA's invites will be used.

Out of 49 invites, safe to say at least 15 will not be used.

Europe, safe to say at least 30 will not be used.

So a total of at least 50+ will not be used therefore around 106 will be in attendence, netting approximately 22 for the LCQ...

Remember, this is speculation, lol.

IDK if that what you are looking for. :p

I actually forgot I made this thread :p. I decided against it just because if we did go then our funds would be much lower making the chance of going to nats next year very slim.

Would it be possible if only 60 players showed up for a certain division at Worlds that the would ONLY keep 4 invites from the LCQ and make Worlds a perfect 64 players? Just curious to how everyone thinks it would be handled.

You are describing Hawaii Worlds 2007. Only around 64 players particpated and there was only a top 16 cut after swiss.

Alot of people wont be there so you would think that there would be ALOT of invites for the grinders but if less then half the people with invites show up then it will be a 64 person worlds like last time in hawaii so that would make very few invites for the grinder, so you could get lucky and have like 40 invites for each age groupe or unlucky and have like 5

Just saying - unless there's less than 64 people who show for Grinders, I think you're jumping the gun by saying they'll change Worlds to only 64 players.

64 person worlds....... that would be the worst.

Depends on how many people with invites show up. I would rather have a 64 person Worlds full of people that earned their invites via conventional routes than a 128 person Worlds with half of those players having ground in.

I wouldn't mind having a bunch of noobs to beat, lol, but i dont think they would allow like 50 invites for grinders, how many people will even show up for grinders in hawaii?

Best guess? 50-100 each in Jr and Sr, and probably 150-200 in Ma. I know I've got a kid from my League going to Grind in at his first ever Worlds in Sr this year. Actually, my second ever player to go to Worlds (and the first had his invite basically from the time of Regionals this year).

I really wish they would announce how many are going to be in each group so people could decide if it's worth their time going.

As it stands, it feels like they're being silent in the hopes of encouraging more people to come, regardless of how many people are actually going to be allowed to play. And I believe that PUI has already decided that number.

The potential problem there is that if they're all "30 Juniors invites" (arbitrary number from my head) and then only like 50-60 show up...

It would look really, really bad to have people fight through National championships for 18-20 hours, win their way to Worlds, and then have some random person show up for the grinder, go 2-4 with good Opp. Win %, and make it in as well. The only way to avoid that is to not announce a number beforehand and see how many people show up to the grinder (and how many people say they'll use their invite and then not actually show up).

Nobody with a loosing or even a .500 recored will grind in you don't have to worry about that. I would not be surprised though if all 4-2's make it in. (jr's and Sr's only)
