The Need for a Pokemon Dress Code

Yes, however, they have been doing this for a very, very, very long time and apparently haven't had any issues with casual clothing before. Especially since they produce it and give it away/sell it. (still not sure which one)

I don't think they will anytime in the near future.

They've also been allowing Japanese cards for a very, very, very long time and are suddenly having issues with it. I wouldn't be surprised to see something like this come next.

But apparently the Japanese cards are causing the game state to be slowed. That's a valid excuss. And if it's hurting the market for the American cards, I can completely understand why they don't want to go out of business. Even though don't agree with it.

T-shirts and jeans aren't causing any damege to their sales or slowing the state of the game down. They don't have a legitament reason. Just because 1 or 2 rogue people think we should dress like we're the president at a speech doesn't mean we should. But just because 1 or 2 rogue people think we should, you're right, we might just see it happen.

This is false as I've pointed out many times in the thread discussing the new POP ruling.

And what if your smell causes me to not be able to concentrate? Or what if your T-Shirt has words on it that distract me from play? You are cheating by being smelly. It is a great disruption to the event and should not be allowed.

If I was a parent of a new player and saw how bad people dressed and how bad they smelled, I know I wouldn't want my kid to turn into that. So I wouldn't buy my kid any cards. That's lost sales right there.

I thought Drew mentioned the dress code for premiere events? Why is everyone going on about kids coming in to, say, league, and being turned away for not being dressed properly? Whoever specifically said that, your logic is flawed unless you have brand new players walking into the hotel at worlds going "Hey guys, whats this? Can I play?" (but in the rare case that that DOES happen, the kids probably on vacation with his parents and has some form of nice clothing for obligatory family dinners)

I agree with Diaz, it's important to dress for success, and having a dress code is going to keep many players in the right mindset during events. I guarantee you, you won't see players basket-tossing the 2 time world champion around between rounds in their formal attire-- they won't even THINK of it because they will be so focused on the tournament. Seeing all those respectable suits is like subliminal messaging in this way and is just an overall win-win for POP/PUI.

And, in fact, it WOULD help the game attract new players.
Working at a card store, I always get asked about Pokemon cards. Do you know how many people say things like "Isn't that a kid's game?"
Not anymore, mister! This new rule--rather, this new amendment would do wonders in cleaning up the general "look" of the game, and would really help with the expansion of the player base which NO ONE can deny is one of the most important things to be doing right now.

And last, as for the gangs prominent in this game.
Drew, there is too much customization within just giving out an ambiguous "dress code". You could have teams dressing in matching suits with matching team ties. Have we considered just one overall color/pattern requirement to avoid this potential taking-advantage-of-a-loophole?

Great joke! lol

However, I do wish more people would actually take the time to shower, brush teeth, etc... It's REALLY nasty to have to sit next to them.

Breathe through your overly sophisticated mouth if you think I stink.

Words on my t-shirt will destract you from play just about as much as all the posters and all the 100+ other matches going on at the same time. I've never been to a quite Pokemon event, I can barely hear my opponents at times.

It's 2009, there is this thing called sophistication.... We got rid of it by the 80's, at least.

Would anyone like to walk up and pay for my fancy and expensive suit that I must wear to a Pokemon event? Then don't start on me.

I can only hope that toxictaipan is in cahoots with the guy who started this thread.

There is no hygene code. Just why do teenage males smell so bad when you put several of them together in a room?
According to the POP Organized Tournament Rules, available at go-pokemon.com, there is indeed a hygiene code. Section 5, Event Responsibilities, states, "All participants are expected to maintain a socially acceptable level of personal hygiene, as
determined by the event staff."

Of course what "socially acceptable" means is highly subject to interpretation, but I suppose we can agree that the gentleman described upthread is way over the line:
At reginals there was a guy who smelled so bad I had to scoop my game because I would have thrown up if I stayed around him any longer. Breath was something awful. Like he just ate out of a dumpster and brushed his teeth with tree moss. His hair resembled that of a 2 toed sloth. And with every move he made a more aful and raunchy smell potrtruded from the depths of Krakatoa. And he acted as though it wasn't even happening.

Which brings me to an actual, serious, question. Say you're at a tournament, and you find yourself faced with a guy like Stinky Cheese Man here--someone who is truly so bad that you can't concentrate on the game. Can you call a judge? Is there any realistic chance that the judge will do something about it? I know that just about the last thing anybody wants to do with someone is address their personal hygiene issues.

I assume that personal hygiene has been an issue in the past, or it wouldn't be in the rules. How have personal hygiene issues been dealt with in the past at tournaments, or even at league?

It would be so awesome if some team showed up in matching red satin suits like The Temptations or something. They could entertain everybody waiting on line for deck checks with an a capella rendition of "Poke-Ball of Confusion!" Maybe there is something to this "everyone should wear suits" thing after all.... :thumb:

Are you kidding me? Everyone who says this is a "joke" is nuts, I completely agree with this. It is so annoying having to play against someone who smells bad, wears unnecessarily baggy clothes, doesn't wash hands, etc. I hate the bandanna stuff that has been going around recently, the game really needs to be cleaned up. This all just promotes thug behavior and demeans the game.

Yeah, I'm joking about breathing through your mouth. People stinking is not okay, it's gross. Joke's over here.

However, my clothes aren't bothering anyone. My clothes constantly get pointed out by various people because they are "funny" or "smart-aleck in a funny way" My blue jeans and t-shirts never killed anyone. Continues to be serious here.

We don't need a dress code, what we need is some common sense.

I totally agree on this statement.
However there are thing people shouldn't be wearing to events.

I am sure you don't want Pokémon Organized Play turning into a Catholic school and my skirt is now a millimeter too short. This would be way to confusing for new players.

Last year there was a Senior wearing a "Death Note" shirt at our Regionals. Not the best thing to be wearing but hey what are you gonna do about it? Sir you can't wear that shirt? It it is that bad ask em nicely to remove the bandanna/ or change shirts/ or turn the shirt inside out if it's THAT controversial.

But I don't see anything wrong with wearing "team" shirts. The bandanas I can understand but any normal attire should be allowed.

O yes I agree on the deoderant/shower thing 100% but hey it's not like you can do much about that either.

RULE: please wash your hands and shower atleast 12 hrs before any premier event" XDDD

<3 TINA

PS TINAS NOT WEARING A DRESS OR SKIRT TO AN EVENT. Or any dressy clothing.
Heck Id use the boys dress code anything but a skirt.

I AM NOT BUYING "POKEMON CLOTHES EITHER"
i just lost all the playability of my Japanese cards a few days ago.
this would be insanity expensive.

I say there should be this policy:
Age Groups:
Juniors
Seniors
Masters
People who forgot to bathe and smell- So they can all know how it feels :)

If you went to California States this year... let's just say.. 230+ people and lesss than half wore some anti-smelling garment.
I walked in a room of my friends... I left because it smelled like sweat. -.-'

and Gang Hatter FTW!

The last time I heard

1984 was over 25 years ago, I would expand more but I have to go secure a TUX for regionals
and if u think a change of clothes will do much, u r sadly mistaken, in France this is all the rage, that aint cheese or feet your smellin fella, well maybe cheese of a sort

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

wow....

cmon ... so when you play an opponent his clothes make you misplay. A good player should be worrying about what they are doing on the playing field and not if the other person can dress correctly according to their OPINION! LOLOLOL

And as for the bandanna's we took them off at nats didn't we ...

Beside not being able to use my few left over local language cards after summer anymore, you create another possible problem for me here.

Since I dress up for each Pokemon event I play, that code is not the problem.
However I do wear real Dutch designer clothes (special made in a few pieces for the "not that thin woman").
I don't think that will be tournament legal since it's foreign and perhaps my clothes are confusing people.

What about my foreign parfume? Allowed to use it?
My Italian Glasses might also disrupt somebody.

Now a little serious, I agree a little more showering would be good for some.
However I am not going to shave my moustache, you must be kidding:tongue:

I won't be able to wear my pikachu costume either.
:'( it would be too intimidating and controversial. /sarcasm

lol you guys are really too funny.
Yes my pikachu Costume is a Tomy Japanese product.
along with the hundreds of Japanese Pokemon plushies I own
*hides em all*
