Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Top Cut Invitational: Tournament of Champions

Hey guys, I don't know if you saw the Twitter/Facebook post, but we have some pretty exciting news! We now have 6 confirmed participants in the event, with 2 still TBA.

- Justin Sanchez
- Jason Klaczynski
- Chris Fulop
- Sami Sekkoum
- Con Le

in addition to these five confirmed guests we're proud to announce that the legendary Japanese champion Tsuguyoshi Yamato recently accepted his invitation to the Top Cut Invitational.

Something we may have overlooked is getting together a judging staff. Since there are 8 players only, we wouldn't need more than 1-2 judges, but is there anyone who has extensive judging experience that would be able to volunteer? At this level, the players need very little assistance, so they mainly would be for keeping time and for figuring out ruling questions.

I can help out for probably the first 2-3 hours. My plane leaves at 10:30pm, and I'm not 100% certain how long it'll take to get through SD security. That would get you through the Round Robin rounds (assuming they're 30+3), and T4 only really needs one Judge, though multiple are preferred. LMK.

We are happy to announce that the final member of the Top Cut Invitational has been confirmed - 2010 World Champion Yuta Komatsuda! Yuta also made Top 4 at Worlds 2006, so he is a player we are excited to see in action. The roster has been updated in the original post. We are all very excited and anxious to get this tournament going to show everyone what the Pokémon TCG is all about!

Ryan: If your plane leaves at 10:30, I wouldn't want you to commit to anything because our start time is dependent on when Worlds ends. We'll be glad to have you around and help, but don't feel obligated to stay for a set amount of time. Play it safe and don't miss your flight - trust me, that isn't fun...

We are holding the last spot open for the 2011 World Champion. If something came up where the champion would not be able to play, we have a player who has agreed to be on reserve in case that situation arises.

Pooka, there are only 7 slots listed in your first post, including the 2011 WC. Are you the 8th player?

Whoops, sorry! Yes, it is Yamato. I'm glad you guys are paying attention!

Also, a huge thank you goes out to Eskil (Tego) for making contact with the Japanese players. Without him, we wouldn't have Yamato and Yuta in the event!

This was an amazing idea!!!!!!!!!

I think it should be made official throu a "hall of fame" made by ballots + a cometee to give a sort of "status" to player who accomplished those amazing results.

this should also grant a spot in Worlds itself (no more Yamato and Ness playing in grinders, Fulop sitting out Nationals, tec. A Worlds without them is not Worlds. Period).

Unfortunately, David Cohen turned down the invitation, and Con Le left early, so we replaced them with Yacine Sekkoum (multiple time UK National Champion) and Dylan Lefavour (2008 Senior World Champion and Top 4 US Nationals 2011). The top four finishers were the following:

1) Jason "Ness" Klaczynski (Vileplume/Yanmega/Mew/Muk/Aipom)
2) Sami Sekkoum (Typhlosion/Reshiram)
3) Yuta Komatsuda (Typhlosion/Reshiram)
4) Dylan Lefavour (Typhlosion/Reshiram)

Congratulations to Jason! We will have the videos up with commentary as soon as possible, but it's difficult at the moment because we do not have a stable Internet connection in San Diego. We will try to have the tournament online within a week. We have some amazing games on camera that truly showcased the skill of these players, and we're excited to show everyone else!
