Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Top Cut Invitational: Tournament of Champions

Unfortunately, David Cohen turned down the invitation, and Con Le left early, so we replaced them with Yacine Sekkoum (multiple time UK National Champion) and Dylan Lefavour (2008 Senior World Champion and Top 4 US Nationals 2011). The top four finishers were the following:

1) Jason "Ness" Klaczynski (Vileplume/Yanmega/Mew/Muk/Aipom)
2) Sami Sekkoum (Typhlosion/Reshiram)
3) Yuta Komatsuda (Typhlosion/Reshiram)
4) Dylan Lefavour (Typhlosion/Reshiram)

Congratulations to Jason! We will have the videos up with commentary as soon as possible, but it's difficult at the moment because we do not have a stable Internet connection in San Diego. We will try to have the tournament online within a week. We have some amazing games on camera that truly showcased the skill of these players, and we're excited to show everyone else!

im really looking very forward to see the final match of all divisions.i hope u guys are going to have that up too..u guys are the best coverage provider.

I was talking to Jason, and he told me to watch the game with him against sami, apparently he mounted a great comeback :p

also on Jason's deck was he just using Aipom as his starter(which would be unique) or did he also use Ambipom as a disruptive tech?

Don't forget there are 2 Aipoms in this format. you got imitate which would be a unique starter. then you also got Tail Code which is a unique disruptive tech.

I'm personally curious why Cohen declined the invitation. I mean he is up there with these players, 2nd 09 Worlds in seniors and now 11' world champ masters.

He's probably busy putting on eyeliner.
Real funny bro. He's a great guy and a respectable champ. In fact, he didn't even wear it this year. Apparently in 2009 it was for "intimidation" or at least that's what I heard

Jason used Tail Code to lock down Reshiram once there were no Typhlosions in play. Thats how I lost

I really loved playing in this, thanks to all that made this event possible. (Even though I wasn't invited, Con just left and I was just in the right place at the right time) It was an honor to play against some of the best players in the world. I hope this can happen again with more people (16 hopefully, that sounds about right). There are so many players that should have a chance to play. It's impossible to choose only the best 8 in my opinion.

I was just kidding, but yeah, i know he's a great player. He deserves the title as World Champ finally.

Either he put on the eyeliner or he was really really tired when they took pictures for the Worlds site

Congratz to him either way, he deserved the win

Pooka, i suggest that you guys do a losers bracket for upcoming ones. it's a really beneficial system that i wish Pokemon would utilize for its tournaments; it increases the odds that the person who deserves to win actually wins, rather than being knocked out of the tournament due to a single bad start/donk/etc.

Yeah i would have loved to play, but had plans already to go eat dinner and such with friends. it sounds like it was an extremely fun tournament though! props to all the top cut guys for putting it on. And as far as the eyeliner goes, i must maintain my mystique!

He wanted to go out and celebrate with his friends...can't really say I blame him.

First of all, I just want to thank Dylan and Yacine for filling in for the players who couldn't make it. I'm not sure what happened with Con, but I was told he left San Diego early Sunday afternoon, so we were scrambling for a replacement player (we already had Yacine on hold). As I sort of expected, David wanted to celebrate his victory instead of play in the tournament - completely understandable. Thankfully we still had eight incredible world-class players for the tournament, and almost all of the games were exciting. Once everything is edited and such, the videos will go online so you can watch the action. In particular, the game between Ness and Fulop was great; I'm glad we caught that on camera.

Captain Falcon, the tournament was in an unusual format, but basically you had to win two games to advance to Top 4. There were plenty of opportunities for people to advance - the only way you could be eliminated was to lose two games.

We plan on holding more tournaments in the future, both open tournaments and invite-only tournaments. We don't know the details on them quite yet, but it's something we want to implement in the upcoming season. Right now the main stumbling block for us is funding. Since we do everything for free, we don't have enough money for everything we would like to do quite yet. As such, we're looking for sponsors to make these things possible, but it's not an easy process. Worlds was a huge step in the right direction for Pokemon, but we still have a lot of work to do!

Also, a huge thank you to everyone who gave us words of encouragement and supported us over the weekend. Unfortunately, we are new at this, so there is going to be a learning curve with a lot of bumps along the way. Eventually we'll figure things out and give you the best coverage possible for the Pokemon TCG. For now, we are learning new things every day, and we take all feedback to heart. Any help you guys can offer will go a long way. A special thank you goes out to Colin Peterik for helping us with the audio for the weekend, Eskil Vestre for allowing us to communicate wtih the Japanese players, and Dustin Zimmerman for our cool new logo design! Without a doubt, the Pokemon community has the greatest people on earth!

Yeah I can't wait to see the games, also I love how Jason used Tail code in the games, i just think that's cool. Can't wait to see the vids :)

Those videos were amazing to watch. I was just sad to see that they were incomplete, or the whole game didn't get recorded? Or maybe they haven't gotten posted up yet. I'll keep checking, I can't wait for more!

You have to manually browse for parts 2 and 3 of each videos, but they are there and every single move was recorded.
