Haven't seen anyone mention this yet, but the appendix for 2-on-2 play is no longer in the rule book.
Some of the new cards still have templating that take multiple Actives into account, but other attacks that would have had that wording in the past no longer do.

Is 2-on-2 being phased out due to lack of interest?

it is more of a fun format IMO. Not used in premier tournies most of the times....

Jason nailed it, they created a format they thought would get more attention. It might have, if they decided to make more premier events with it, like having 1 or 2 City Championships been 2 on 2 to see how people liked it. Most people never bothered to learn it fully when it came out, and with no premier support, it was generally ignored.

they never even gave it a real chance, so lack of interest can't possibly be the reason :(

To me it seems like it was some sort of enforced feature by the video game creators, to make the Ruby/Sapphire generation of cards include more of the new features from the Ruby & Sapphire video games. It seems like they introduced it into the cards unenthusiastically and never really made anything big out of it, but left it to the players if they wanted to make anything more out of it. Players never enthusiastically embraced this feature, and I must frankly say that I didn't either. It was an OK idea, but there was no room for it.

Do you mean Team Play or 2 pokemon active play?
From what I understand ineither never saw much competitive sanctioned play.
I think the "team" idea came from the multi player ability in MTG.

    Not Team.
The game was not designed for Team.

I personally love the concept of 2 on 2 in fact before we knew any better that 1st year of cities under PUI we ran them all 2 on 2. I loved it.

... I loved team play... my Light Ledian / Vileplume deck was 59-0 in team play...

I've played exactly one game 2 on 2. Can't say I cared for it much...

I agree, it did never get a chance if it has died. Which is a shame as it was quite fun and allows for some neat combos.

I remember these, they were quite fun.

They don't even held tourneys for 2-2 formats, so nobody's gonna care about it...

I think Tego has it right.

Its not that it was a bad idea: even good ideas often fail. More that there was no room, even need, for 2-on-2 game play. Team however is completely different and I do think that there is an unfilled opportunity with team play.

Now how to get PCL interested in team play for Pokemon tcg?

We ran a tournament once for 2-on-2 to see what people though of it. It turns out everyone played their normal decks and just tried to fit it into the 2-on-2 format. I think there are some interesting combos for it out there, but it most players don't want to put the effort into designing a deck and playtesting just for a fun format when the next CC or BR cycle is around the corner.

Some of the kiddos at league were asking about 2-on-2 play last week so I was going to read up on it again and maybe try it at league after States. I think TrainerJL is right though that most of us just don't have time to design and test an additional deck. The players at league are either new and learning the game or experienced players testing their tournament decks. And when they want to do something different, they are grabbing their figs and playing the TFG.

I still play 2-on-2. I loved to play it since EX Ruby and Sapphire. However I've noticed the lack of cards that do things to all of the defending pokemon so I don't play it as much anymore. But yeah some people still play it.

I enjoyed Team Play *remembers FAT and GenCon Europe*... 2-on-2 never really caught on so I never really missed it.

The game mechanics are just too different. I particularly dislike how a "when active" pokémon for its power can just sit there while something else powers up and attacks etc.

Team is lots of fun, and works even better with the 2v2 adapted rules. Its not Pop's subject in this post, though.

    2v2 <3, Team <3 <3

2v2 isn't gone from OP ...and... AND! Team is back. The new Team Rules take into account 2v2 play to smooth out the play a bit, and the most difficult parts of WotC TEAM -- the overamplification of between turns effects and the loss of your teammate during play, resulting in overpowering your opponents -- have been fixed.

Grab the official 2v2, 30 Card & TEAM play format rules here: 2007-2008 Formats!

Where is NoPoke's comment about unfilled opportunity... guess i missed the quote button. Yes, Team is great for families and best buds, as we've seen in this area. In the Aug-Sep doldrums of 2008, I hope again to be doing a tourney series I ran several years ago (only a little tighter and better this time): Pokemon Pentathlon II - where we run the following combination of sanctioned/unsanctioned tourneys over two weekend days: Modified Constructed, Modified 2v2, Team Constructed, Rochester Draft and Unlimited Constructed. Prizes for each tourney and the overall winner.

Things come and go from the rulebook, for various reasons. Is the Neo "Baby Rule" still there? It was 'til recently & I haven't had a chance to check GE (drat the no-opening rule). If 2v2 is not in the Pre-con rulebook, well, its still in the OP formats document (link above).

    About those rules...

Flygon ex Delta Sand Damage. Does it apply to BOTH Opponent's bench? Or just one? If just one, when is it designated?

I would say I couldn't care less, except it does get rid of extra wordiness on the cards. The actual format didn't look very fun anyway.
