Do you mean Team Play or 2 pokemon active play?
Team is lots of fun, and works even better with the 2v2 adapted rules. Its not Pop's subject in this post, though.
... I loved team play...
I've played exactly one game 2 on 2. Can't say I cared for it much...
2v2 <3, Team <3 <3
I enjoyed Team Play *remembers FAT and GenCon Europe*... 2-on-2 never really caught on so I never really missed it.
2v2 isn't gone from OP ...and... AND! Team is back. The new Team Rules take into account 2v2 play to smooth out the play a bit, and the most difficult parts of WotC TEAM -- the overamplification of between turns effects and the loss of your teammate during play, resulting in overpowering your opponents -- have been fixed.

Where is NoPoke's comment about unfilled opportunity... guess i missed the quote button. Yes, Team is great for families and best buds, as we've seen in this area. In the Aug-Sep doldrums of 2008, I hope again to be doing a tourney series I ran several years ago (only a little tighter and better this time): Pokemon Pentathlon II - where we run the following combination of sanctioned/unsanctioned tourneys over two weekend days: Modified Constructed, Modified 2v2, Team Constructed, Rochester Draft and Unlimited Constructed. Prizes for each tourney and the overall winner.
Things come and go from the rulebook, for various reasons. Is the Neo "Baby Rule" still there? It was 'til recently & I haven't had a chance to check GE (drat the no-opening rule). If 2v2 is not in the Pre-con rulebook, well, its still in the OP formats document (link above).
