This is not official, but a rumor hence the gossip section. no sleeves with holograms or other marks on the front are legal, because apparently they can obscure card information.

Have an official link to this "crap rule"?
There is no such rule. I'm going to leave it open just to learn if anyone is incorrectly enforcing this.
But THERE IS NOT SUCH RULE.
Just to clarify, there IS such a rule that 'The front of the sleeves are clear, clean, and free of designs, holograms, and emblems that may obscure card information' (Section 2 of the TCG Tournament Rules and Formats.) What there isn't is a rule banning a brand. You may have a judge or organizer over-zealously interpreting the above, but the logo on Ultra Pros doesn't obscure anything.
Oh, that would explain what is being misinterpreted!
That is there to disallow those sleeves that have a whole holo pattern across the entire face of the sleeves, not just the tiny little holo logo.
At one point, it did block the Retreat information. But that was a very, very long time ago...
As the dude that wrote this rule, I can confirm that this is correct. There used to be sleeves (maybe there still are) where the entire face of the sleeve had a holographic pattern. In the right (wrong?) light, this pattern could make the text on an opponent's card darn near illegible. The small foil UltraPro logo that appears in the bottom corner of their sleeves is only an issue if it covers game information.
This is a great example. The foil UltraPro logo used to be located in such a way that it would cover a portion of the Retreat cost on a Pokemon card with a Retreat of 3 or more. Those sleeves would be illegal under this rule. However, the logo is now placed in a location that does not obscure game information, so it's no longer an issue.
...until there is a card that asks the opponent who drew the art for your active pokemon lol.
That would be as silly as a card that asks your opponent how tall a Pokemon is. Wait a minute...
