Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

What Anime can really be called "G rated"?

I'm vaguely curious as to what they tag anime over in Japan...for example, stuff I remember growing up with (Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, etc) would probably be considered PG-13 here, so how would that rate over in Japan for example? Of course you have the general "junk" like Hamtaro, but how do you rate Naruto and Bleach for example; both show a fair bit of violence/blood (though it's "TV" blood in the animes), yet many young kids watch it regardless right? Or even Dragon Ball Z as the granddaddy to those 2?

That aside, it's fairly easy to distinguish from that and the definitely more controversial stuff, especially anything involving erotic, extreme violence/blood, and general mind screwing. Personally I think the whole rating system is a farce, is it really that hard for parents to monitor what their kids watch without needing some guide? Or have a bit of faith they won't turn into little monsters after seeing a bit of violence or swearing?

Well considering that some kids are more "impresionable" than others, it really depends on the kid.

I grew up watching a ton of violent shows, and I turned out pretty normal.

On the other hand we had that kid who attempted to do a Naruto jitsu and ended up suffocating, people who brought "Death Notes" to school with people's names (usually teachers) written in them, or other stuff like that.

Other "G" rated stuff that I can think of:

Panyo Panyo Digi Charat
Strawberry Marshmallow (some tobacco & alchohol)
The Adventures of the Mini-Goddess (I think)

To be honest, I'm confused about what PG is these days. When I was a kid it was way more strict than today it seems. Lol, I still remember how my parents reacted when a swear word was dropped in Spy Kids.

I remember those days, now a days profanity isn't to uncommon. Beyond that I really don't know, some harem anime wind up with a gentler rating, but I'm not sure if that would met most normal PG standards.

Anyway G-Rated anime...
Any American animation minus stuff like South Park, Futurama, and Family Guy
Pokemon
Yu-gi-Oh!

PG animation
Dragon Ball Z
Yu yu Hakusho
Case Closed
One Piece
etc.

YGO is not G-rated in any stretch of the imagination. Neither is Avatar the Last Airbender. And there are a whole HOST of 90s era animated shows that I'd submit are PG at best (they were all given TV-Y7 ratings).

And there is no way on earth that Looney Tunes is a G-rated show.

I would even debate on if Pokemon is really G-Rated.

I think it falls in between G and PG IMO depending on the episode.

Maybe YGO's changed since I was younger, but I remember it being rather tame. Sure it said that the characters didn't die when the Japanese version probably killed them, but they tended to censor the hell out of it.

And 90s anime, and anime in general ranks much higher than G given American standards hands down. I was trying to think of anime I would rank as G rating and I was pulling blanks for about 5 minutes, and it still ended up small.

Roles: Anybody with half a brain knew what the "Shadow Realm" was. Yeah, it was censored beyond belief. Still not truly a G-rated show.

As far as 90s era children's cartoons that were NOT G-rated? Rocko's Modern Life. Ren and Stimpy (closer to Beevis and Butthead than anything else, honestly). Almost anything on Cartoon Network.

Well yeah, but that hasn't stopped some shows from having mild violence and labeling it as something in the past, then again I can't remember a single G-rated show I watched, so I could very well be recalling a show that was actually PG.
