need help step dad wantz to play at states what do i do olny go t one deck but i have stuff to make another just need to know which one to make!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1:pokeball:

1 Rayquaza C
59 Energy Cards

Cheap to make, and very easy to build.

Not that good, but decent.

Orrrr

1 Purugaly G
59 Energy Cards

They keep drawing a card each time you don't draw a basic, then when you start with it use Chip off and discard all their hand!

any deck that doesn't get too involved in powers or certain cards to make it work. I would suggest a stage one deck with all your staple cards. maybe something like electvire, or raichu. charizard is easy enough, or something water with a feraligatr prime in it.

The easiest decks for a new player (that aren't complete trash) are . . .

1. Scizor/Cherrim
2. Charizard AR
3. Gengar SF
4. Machamp SF
5. Donphan Prime

IMO.

That deck is more an 'easy deck to play'. It's good, fun but if anything easy.

Baby Mario's are better, but harder to play.

If he's into the game a decent amount then I'd consider Baby Mario's deck choices.

If he has barely played in his life, I'd play one of the decks I suggested.

The trouble with those Pokemon + 59 Energy decks is that no-one will fall for it (in Masters anyway).

As soon as they see 2 mulligan hands with nothing but Energy, the opponent will stop drawing their optional extra card and wait as the poor guy keeps failing to get a Basic. Eventually, a judge will be called over and then the guy will die of embarrassment and lose next turn.

Seeing as he said he wanted to PLAY at States, you should give him a deck that he can . . . y'know . . . PLAY.

Yeah, but most people might mistake it for Rayquaza?

If you don't mind me asking, how much experience has your Step Dad had with the game?

I'm thinking Charizard or Donphan if he knows a good amount.

thanks guys thats a great help i might just play that purugly g one

Don't play that. You don't want your Step Dad to go through all those rounds, with one gimmick that will never work - he'll just get so bored and it'll put him off other tournaments. Go with Baby Mario's suggestions

All depends on how much notice it is before the tournement.

And how much he's played.

He's going to lose every game with Purgly, so its not a superior option to anything. I'm sure he can be taught the basics today/tomorrow - States is a bad starting tournament if you're that new.

He's going to lose with any deck if he hasn't had enough time to try the game.

I agree, States isn't the best starting point.

Battle Roads are next so that'd be the best idea.

But if he is still going to States, play something easy, and a deck that doesn't take a lot of skill to play.

Slowly teach him more about the game, then the hard decks should be fine.

A deck with no skills needed to play. . . *Looks at Shuppet deck*

Shuppet?

That could work.

I definitely wouldn't go with Gyarados as a first deck, as the way it sets up is COMPLETELY different than any other deck in the format, and that may confuse him.

Seriously you should build him something fairly easy. When I first started I started with Gyrados, though another deck I used Scyther. Any newbie is going to play the deck totally different than a player who would play the same deck with much experience, so I wouldn't put off the idea. Gyrados is a fun deck, fairly easy and straight forward. The whole point is to enjoy the experience, to learn from ones he plays, and possibly win one game. I hope whatever he plays, he at least finds the fun. Good luck.

Shuppet Donk might work and get you a couple of wins, but it runs into problems with Spiritomb starts, Deafen Locks, etc. Otherwise, I think baby mario made good suggestions- Scizor/Cherrim doesn't take a lot of skill to play.

Butterfree GE seems like a fun and easy deck that is slightly competetive. It's very simple by just healing 50 every turn with expert belt. Cherrim SF or PA can help with this, and shaymin Lv. X gives butterfree 180 HP with expert belt.
