Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

What Will Be Good For City's?

Gyarados will be the best, but probably not the most played. The new cards will get WAY too much hype just cuz they are new. Annoys the crap outta me.

Explain Expert Belt then? That card isn't hype at all. I don't get why all of a sudden everyone seems to think that Gyrados is great again? It isn't bad but why all of a sudden is everyone coming out with him again all of a sudden? The deck is too slow whether it is powerful or not.

Expert Belt isn't hyped...? where have you been looking.
Gyarados isn't slow, and isn't THAT weak to power lock. How is it not a competitive choice? (Plus the OHKO ability)

^^^I was looking at the post above mine where Son of Apollo said the NEW cards are getting way too much Hype and I was simply saying Expert Belt isn't being hyped and that is a great card basically. When I said Explain Expert Belt that is what I meant by it due to the only card being hyped really is Gengar Lv.X and not the other cards of the set except for maybe Spiritomb. Gyrados is slow IMO and that might just be me, but I would like to know why he is getting so much interest again, I mean, the SF Gyrados isn't great and is simply ok IMO.

Nah expert belt deserves the hype, I mean cards like gengar, salamence and tangrowth (the lv. x's). Wait a minute this sounds an awful lot like stormfront. They even have sceptile, cherrim, charizard, rapidash, raichu, and bronzong! OMG conspiracy

Kingdra or Gyarados with Expert Belt: Bad Idea... Pachirisu is gonna make them cry... Just Kidding...

Flygon Gardevoir Weaville FGW (For a Great Win)
aka GG (Goodbye Gengar) hahaha

I have realized the similarities as well, also think about the fact they release exactly a year apart which is kind of creepy. (Every year at this time there will be a new Gengar mechanic!) LOL

Expert belt doesn't make any deck broken because most every deck will run it ( with the exception of some sps, and snipe decks).
So it doesn't really change the format, it just makes all of the decks better at the same time. . .

I personally think that GGW is still the best deck in the format. A consistent power lock is strong enough to beat any deck

Lets look over our options, to see what decks are going to be good and what decks are going to bad for cities. Now im only going to menton a few decks, but this is how I feel the metagame will turn out to be.

Arceus (Deck itself)- Bad. Why? Because it is nearly impossible to get all 6 DIFFERENT TYPES of Arceuse in play. Even with 4 different copies, it would be kind of hard to pull it off consistently. Furthermore, you would have to start off with the Normal type Arceus. Loses to Machamp severly, and bringing out the right type Arceuse won't exactly be an easy task. No sirrey!

Charizard- Uber!- Charizard is sooo fricken fast that you can easily get a whole swarm of Fire Pokemon out there to really power up Charizards attacks. Thanks to his Pokemon Body. Weakness to water such as Kingdra, Palkia, and Gyarados, but Charizard can still take a hit or too. Once again, thanks to its awesome 140 HP and it's weakness to +30, instead of x2. If Tangrowth gets popular, Charizard will take over the tournaments much easier than expected.

Kingdra- Good and Bad- With an increase with Expert Belt, means no Crobat G's, and no PlusPowers. 80 damage for 1 energy is sick. Only problem is the new Tangrowth, Luxray AoA, and Luxray Lv X. What they all have in common that give Kingdra problems is the weakness and resistance factor. Then you have Mesprit LA that can give Kingdra a headache. Of course, if you put Lucky Egg in there, you would have to wait until Kingdra gets knocked out. In order to draw your newly refreshed hand, by drawing cards until you have 7 cards in your hand.

Gengar- Mediocre- Sure, Gengar recieves a brand new toy, by getting Gengar Lv X. However, Nidoqueen RR still gives spread decks problems. Such as the Gengar that that's being mentoned here. Simply, by removing 1 damage counter each of your Pokemon each turn. Boo hoo =(. The deck itself is already bad as it was, lacks damage, relys on coin flips, Unown G laughs at its face, easy to play the trainer cards around. Bad in my book.

Beedrill- Good- Beedrill could be the deck to play, but you have to be careful of Charizard and Blaziken FB mainly. Although, water decks such as Kingdra and Gyarados could splash them out of the tournament, preventing Blaziken and Charizard from getting that far. Although Charizard can last longer than Blaziken. The weakness to this deck though is if Weedle or Beedrill was in your prize cards, that means you coulnd wind up realistically dealing out 90 damage. Still, you have Azelf LA to fetch you the Pokemon you need at critical moment's. Only thing about Azelf is he can clog up the bench quite easily and Beedrill does get countered quite easily by Duskoir.

These are just my predictions of what I think might happen

After looking at the new set, and thinking about what was good at BRs, this is what im thinking.

The Top Decks will be:
Flygon/Machamp(StallGon or whatever you want to call it)
its sooo good. In my book it has a chance against even its worst matchups(which arent many). if your opponent either isnt running unown g, or just cant get it out for whatever reason, you can bring up claydol with a flygon x w/ memory berry and mill through your opponent's deck. against decks like beedrill, tangrowth and dialga SP decks that usually have a bench sitting lvx, you can take it out with flygon x. and against SP decks you can run through them with machamp, so even if you can't mill thier deck, you can just win the old fashioned way. this is one of my personal fav decks.

Gyrados:
so, i think its ok. do i think it can win a tournament or 2? yes. do i think it can sweep citys, states, and possibly regionals? no. i played it in 2 brs, 4-1 and 2-2. i liked it, but it just didnt feel like i was using a top tier deck. its seemingly top tier at the moment, but i think that might change by the end of citys. it has mad high hp, a broken attack, but takes too long to setup with bad starts.

Beedrill: Again, not a deck i really like, but i admit its mad nice. It can be very consistent. shaymin land form x makes it alot better IMO. i think expert belt will be a big plus to it. 120 for one energy is great, but it falls kinda hard to luxape and blazeray.

The Other Good decks:
LuxApe-Blazeray
disruption and power makes a good combo. also being in the speedy form of sps makes it even better. but machamp gives it big problems. its consistent, disruptive, speedy, and powerfull. so its basicly everything but milling wraped up into one deck. the only big flaw is its machamp problem.

Tangrowth
im predicting big things out of this deck. it has so many great combos: SF tangrowth, lvX, Nidoqueen, Shaymin land form x, expert belt or leftovers, and maybe healers makes a tank out of it. of course sceptile GE is the main supporter of the deck. The new Tangrowth is currently one of my fav cards. its first attack is extremely anti gyarados. it makes tail revenge do the usual -20 for resistance, plus another -20 for its effect. and then you can try and get lucky with x's power and heal 40 off of him. one of my fav decks, next to flygon machamp.

yeh, so i dont like salamence. i think gengar had its time. maybe gechamp is ok, but not that great. Flygon Gardy is also pretty good. but i dont think its top 5 deck material.

With all due respect Chompy, the statement that you made about Gengar is untrue on so many levels. Are you telling me that Gengar is a bad deck? Are you serious??? After all of the sucsess that it has had, after being the BDIF for like, ever, and you're saying that it is "Mediocre"???

Sorry for being a critice. I think Charizard is a great idea and I'll be sure to try it.

When was Gengar ever the BDIF?

^ I guess you could say that it was the most successful deck for spring battle roads last year?

but Gengar is just too easy to play around. Although I do think that the Gengar X will make it a little bit more than "mediocre".
