What's holding back Sally?

I was just wondering why Salamence EX (Mainly PK, but DF too...) isn't played much. I know that it is 2 prizes, but it has a whopping 160HP and you 1-shot each of your opponent's pokemon while they 2-shot sallamences normally, and losing 2 pokemon hurts more than losing one. Castform is still a good starter too because there are delta basics for the sally line, altaria line, and typhlosion line (those are some of the pokemon that I would run with it). Gallade sonic blades you, but you can just play unknown G, and gardy psy-locks you, but if you get 1 sally setup, you can kill 3 gardies before they KO you. Fossils and Eeveelutions MIGHT give you some trouble, but lati-lock is easily techable.

Just some thoughts,

Because it's bulky.
The only cards that really support it are things (like you said) like Altaria Ex δ, and Typholsion which is another stage 2. It takes like a bunch of energy to get setup, it can't use Scramble, and it is just overall very slow. It's true that has a very high damage output, but it will lose way too much energy too fast and it in general collapese on you when you lose a Salamence.

No I have been trying a few different ex decks but those dang G& G and Mag decks keep holding me back. I would love for them to make the play somewhere. Last time I saw someone do well was with kingdra ex but I like Sally too.

They fact that you fragment your deck. It may not sound like it, but discarding the top 5 cards of your deck is PAINFUL. Do that attack twice, 1/6 of your total deck was just destroyed. You probably will not last beyond 3-4 attacks because of the damage this guy does to you. Add the fact that he is an Ex, and you have a resipe for pain, as you trade prizes with your opponent 2 for 2, but lose the top 10 cards of your deck.

^ but you could play pachi instead of castform and then play blaze and delcatty instead of Altaria and typhlosion and then you don't go through your deck too fast and if you need to stop attacking with sally's 150 attack, you can do the 30 to all of your opponent's bench once or twice and then blaze GE just snipes away everything. Not to mention that if you played the delcatty version you could use upstream and that might prevent decking.

You can always combine it with the upcoming Garchomp Lv X for quick revival and just go off attacking from there.

Right, which is exactly why he and Garchomp LV.X are best friends.

Just an idea...

EDIT: Pfft. Ninja'd by Regis_Neo.

It's not that hard to set up, actually :/ The problem would be "Hey, what do I do after I lose the first Salamence?" Use another turn to revive another?

It's a great card and one I have been trying to get to work through out the yr, but its proven difficult to combo.

Sally Ex PK could work last format since it could get game within 3 KO's. That is now virtually impossible.

Because it takes 5 energy to attack and being an ex. But occasionally you'll hear of somebody doing pretty well with it, I don't recemend playing it.

its just too slow.
you cant effectively power it up fast enough to win you the game, unless you literally start from turn 1 and you dont get attacked.
its mainly because of the lack of energy acceleration in this format.
heck, if it were last format you could make it work very well as somewhat of a tech.
4 holon castform
3/3/3 kid/buzzδ/vire
3/2/3 Dragoniteδ
2/1/2 Salamence ex.
start off with delta draw and power of evolution.
get energy in discard with vire and bring it back to salamence and attach holon castform for water energy.
nothing big, but i could see it working alright.

when we get a good energy accelerator like the ones we used to have then bulky pokemon like this will become more playable.

I never once thought it wasn't playable.
I ran it for fun at the league, and when you
get one going, 150 damage pays off.
Tho i had a proxy of the card so never
could take it to tourny play

Calm down, my little kids..
My friend play Dark Salamence..
Salamence DF (WWCC) + Weavile SW.
Salamence >>> Magmortar
And Unown G + Salamence >>> Gallade.
