Why I Love Mario

I've seen some decks wondering why TRUK is so popular and what it is, so I figure this is the correct forum to answer questions about why MARIO is so popular and what it is, and I'll do it by listing what I love about the deck.

(1) It forces every deck to be quicker. Riolu hits for 30, then Lucario for 40+ snipe 20, and you are in control. This struggle for early dominance is the driving force behind today's power decks like T2 Blissey.
(2) It disrupts every deck that would like to have a Castform start. T1 Riolu hitting heads= gg or early prize. Most or all Delta decks become antiquated, especially with the loss of the Holon Engine.
(3) It disrupts every deck that would like to use Delcatty. Poor little kitty... are you out by yourself? tsk
(4) It disrupts every deck which woul like to use T1 Marill. What if you open with only Azurill?
(5) It has totally destroyed RaiEggs, a great deck in its day.
(6) It disrupts every deck that would like to use 30hp Magikarp. T1 Riolu again. Gyrarados is *so* formidable that without Riolu, Pachirisu might become in vogue!
(7) It disrupts every deck that would like to use 30hp Feebas. Milotic d could be interesting without this fear.
(8) Lucario is soooo efficient. 90hp, 1 retreat, Feint for 30 using any Energy, sniping destruction. And such cool artwork!
(9) Revenge is also one of the best attacks in the game. Although it takes a lot of flak for being so easy-to-use, its charm lies in its simplicity. No, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to pull off a quick 70, and that is what is so thrilling!
(10) Dynamic Punch is not only a cool attack, but has a great name. I love saying "Dynamic PUNCH!"
(11) Machamp has FOUR arms! *You* don't have four arms, and neither does Chuck Norris.
(12) Mario causes people to bristle. How can you not love playing a deck which causes opponents to give you ugly stares?
(13) The name "Mario" is related to Nintendo. Such synergy!
(14) Winning games with Machoke is very satisfying. You used neither the super-efficient Lucario nor the over-analyzed Machamp. Poor little Machoke- so humble, yet so powerful.
(15) Lucario Lv.X gives you a near-guaranteed extra turn. Holon Circle, take a back seat.
(16) Lucario Lv.X hits for 80 damage and has 1 retreat cost. I don't know about you, but I'm appalled at this impertinence.
(17) Mario's Trainer Engine is flexible enough to allow for techs without ruining consistency. So, go ahead, enjoy a Lake Boundary, or a Super Scoop Up. You deserve it!
(18) When you join the Mario Fan Club, you get a free pass to Worlds. j/k (maybe)
(19) Mario people are loving towards mankind, treat their family well, make enough money to be happy, and sleep well at night.
(20) I went to T16 at Nationals. Woot! Also won a Battle Roads.
(21) Even though Mario is not a deck, it still kicks big booty. Enjoy!

Cheers

And I said we weren't supposed to discuss upcoming articles here. Isn't this a little ironic that this was posted right after Kant sent in his submission?

but all those were just props to lucario :x. the only prop machamp got was it has 4 arms and has a cool sounding attack :-\

Not that ironic. I saw you post in the Blissey thread about a deck whose followers have a "religious fervor" and I knew you meant Mario, so I thought I'd "shout some praise."

Just incase you didn't notice, EVERY deck does this now. There is no space for build-up decks anymore like LBS. Quite sad really, we have shifted to rush decks.

(2) It disrupts every deck that would like to have a Castform start. T1 Riolu hitting heads= gg or early prize. Most or all Delta decks become antiquated, especially with the loss of the Holon Engine.

Yeah no one uses Holon's Castoform anymore. It's not just because of RIOLU, but because of rush decks in general. Tune/blissey can T2 casty as well.

(3) It disrupts every deck that would like to use Delcatty. Poor little kitty... are you out by yourself? tsk

The skitty most commonly used is the Tail Whip one from PK. It has as good a chance to effectivly paralyze you as you do to KO it.

(4) It disrupts every deck which woul like to use T1 Marill. What if you open with only Azurill?

By "disrupt" you mean "ko quickly". There is a rather large difference there. RIOLU can do good damage, yes. So far with all of these it has been about RIOLU/LUCARIO, 2 good pokemon.

(5) It has totally destroyed RaiEggs, a great deck in its day.

After states Raieggs was shown to not be a viable option in the metagame. Before DP came out...

(6) It disrupts every deck that would like to use 30hp Magikarp. T1 Riolu again. Gyrarados is *so* formidable that without Riolu, Pachirisu might become in vogue!

Again with RIOLU :D

(7) It disrupts every deck that would like to use 30hp Feebas. Milotic d could be interesting without this fear.

So far at least 3 of your points have been the same. "KO their first basic because RIOLU can". This is not an argument against the mario-haters, just a simple part of the deck. RIOLU is a good card that can KO fast.

(8) Lucario is soooo efficient. 90hp, 1 retreat, Feint for 30 using any Energy, sniping destruction. And such cool artwork!

I too love LUCARIO

(9) Revenge is also one of the best attacks in the game. Although it takes a lot of flak for being so easy-to-use, its charm lies in its simplicity. No, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to pull off a quick 70, and that is what is so thrilling!

One of the best attacks in the game? It relies on you have gotten KO'D! And with wager now, it will be very hard to set up the candy machamp fighting combo that was do-able last year with little hand disruption. Are you just citing its simplicity as a good quality?

(10) Dynamic Punch is not only a cool attack, but has a great name. I love saying "Dynamic PUNCH!"

You got jokes, kid.

(11) Machamp has FOUR arms! *You* don't have four arms, and neither does Chuck Norris.

Behind Chuck Norris's beard is not a chin, just another fist. His legs and feet also have fully apposable thumbs. He has FIVE arms. Invalid point.

(12) Mario causes people to bristle. How can you not love playing a deck which causes opponents to give you ugly stares?

Be goth, you will like the way people look at you!

(13) The name "Mario" is related to Nintendo. Such synergy!

...

(14) Winning games with Machoke is very satisfying. You used neither the super-efficient Lucario nor the over-analyzed Machamp. Poor little Machoke- so humble, yet so powerful.

Such amazing skill and thought put into it! Although I can't think of a single thing that can be T1'd by machop(opponent getting 0 turns), I guess there could be a few. Why not use Riolu :/

(15) Lucario Lv.X gives you a near-guaranteed extra turn. Holon Circle, take a back seat.

Yes, LUCARIO LV. X IS GOOD!

(16) Lucario Lv.X hits for 80 damage and has 1 retreat cost. I don't know about you, but I'm appalled at this impertinence.

Yes, LUCARIO LV.X IS GOOD!

(17) Mario's Trainer Engine is flexible enough to allow for techs without ruining consistency. So, go ahead, enjoy a Lake Boundary, or a Super Scoop Up. You deserve it!

I've used the list you have posted. I have not once, out of 20+ games, gotten what I would call a good start. And this is coming from the person who thought that starting with mentor/trans with metanite was a good start.

(18) When you join the Mario Fan Club, you get a free pass to Worlds. j/k (maybe)

I refuse to comment on this

(19) Mario people are loving towards mankind, treat their family well, make enough money to be happy, and sleep well at night.

They kill clouds(castoform). Clouds are a vital part of the global scheme of things. IDK how I could respect ANYONE who kills clouds.

(20) I went to T16 at Nationals. Woot! Also won a Battle Roads.

Won "a" battle road"s"? Also I believe that shiftry ex/claydol ex got T16/T8 in seniors. Crazy things do happen.

Like a miracle, but the opposite effect :p

The people of these forums have the right to be enlightened!

All in all, LUCARIO is a good card. Machamp/Lucario shows almost no synergy at all other then "Hit hard and hope the game doesn't go on much longer".

I never said it was mario, but then again it could be.

You still haven't given a single reason why machamp is a good card.

The thread is "why I LOVE Mario." I wasn't making "arguments" for using Mario - that's in my Feature Article- this article just shows (humorously/seriously) why I (and other people) LOVE mario, and "what it is." Please stop spamming with counterpoints.

Lucario is awesome with Machamp, Blissey, even Empoleon. I think that's great. D-Cario is cool too.
Machamp is my personal favorite with Lucario. Don't rake people over the coals for their tastes.
And as far as winning with Mario, it happens frequently. Don't be a hater over success.

I'm pretty sure 20 bullet points IS arguing why Mario is good.

BTW, take Mario into a big time enviornment or vs our decks, and I promise you wouldn't have the same views of the deck.

Not arguing. Just telling you why I love it. You can't change my mind just like I can't change anyone else's.

Which exact decks have I *not* played against?

I'm sure my views *would* change after playing y'all, whether for better or worse, but my love for Mario would not change.

Take Mario into a big time environment? Was Nationals not big enough...?

TRUK himself called it after top cut at worlds, Yamato's speed empoleon deck would create a shift in our metagame, making it more speed oriented. Gone are the days of RockLock (a three stage 2 setup deck) and LBS (25+ pokemon maybe?) I don't have the IM log anymore, maybe he does.

Besides, Mario can't love you. He wants to date Peach.

edit: did I really read "enjoy a Super Scoop Up"?

I don't think it was that hard to notice how the format was shifting. The deck that won Nationals was Absolutions, and there were many lucario varients so the format was already shifting towards stage 1/basics. Then when MT came out, you either had to go speed or lose to decks like Blissey or Kricketune.

Right, so Machamp DP/PK and Lucario DP together is not the thing that "forces every deck to be quicker."

Also a bunch of those points make it seem like...if you flip tails with Riolu, you lose.

I personally think Mario is a good little deck. All you haters out there....put YOUR deck for Nats on the boards for at least 1 month prior...tell everyone that this IS your deck for Nats and see where you end up! Love him or hate him....Tom (KG) was like a slot machine at Nats.....here I am, take your best shot! He T16'd a 400 + event. Only 15 others can say the same thing here!

Keith

I love that Mario went Top3 World's (Juniors). It doesn't mean that I think Mario is unbeatable. I just love that fact.

And Mario is not "the" thing that forces every deck to be quicker. It does it, just like Kricket, Empoleon, Blissey.

Thanks Keith! Love ya, man!
