I don't think it would be 1st place at a Regional and you can't play in another. I mean, say someone gets 2nd at one and then 1st at one. It's also for scholarship money, there is nothing wrong with adding that up. The ONLY reason I could see this happening is for a Worlds Trip, for Nationals, come on. The GCs are fine because they don't offer scholarship money, I could see it happening for those and States. I don't think it is a good move for Regionals though, we'll see.

Ummm, check the first post in the thread, Scizor. Unless something changes, Mike said Regionals too. Of course you can believe what you want.

Many of you have to realized that what this is eventually doing is reinforcing "The Spirit of the Game", the game is meant to be fun for everyone, its suppose to creat fairness no matter where you live or where you are playing. It strives to promote the idea that people can be honest and that no one is ever taken advantage of during the battles. People become more respectful of each other and the best part that everyone is willing to help each other out, because not everyone is perfect and we all need help once and while. Winning isn't everyone, you don't always need to win to have fun....have you ever had times where you had an incredible battle with someone that seemed to last so long and that each of you were so focused in that moment of trying to get it all right, getting all the cards, making the right moves, etc.
Those types of games are always great to experience and sometimes you don't essentially care who wins that much because the match was great and you faced an awesome opponent. Thats what good sportmanship is about. Not only did you have a great time and enjoyed the battle, but you learned alot. You learned about your opponent, you may have learned of tricks you never saw before, or you may have learned something about yourself in terms of how you are able to improve. This is what pokemon TCG is all about, this is what POP is trying to teach us, and this is what we should be working at, becoming better trainers, players, eventually becoming better people.

Hey all,

After reading all the speculations in this post I am clearly undecided in this matter. One thing for sure.... Phil must be running for president! j/k Phil

On one hand, I like the idea. It allows a wider assortment of descent players to expand and achieve some of their goals by actually winning a premier event. We have had many players quit coming to our leagues because there was a group of strong players that would dominate them week after week. So for the lowering attendance arguement... that will not be the case. It will in fact INCREASE attendance. But at what cost? Are we giving them a false sense of their playing ability? When they go to a larger scale event the will get severly PWNED by the players that pop has excluded from the event where they actually did well.

On the other hand, This idea really stinks..... We here in chicago travel in groups of 10+ for every major event. We go all around the midwest. My son is capable of winning many states, Regionals, and GC's. I do understand that he is only capable of winning one trip, However there is more on the line than a Trip. He WANTS the SCHOLARSHIPS!!! This new implementation would severly damper his oppritunities to showcase his skills that he has spent several years perfecting and be rewarded for doing so. He would essentially have to stay HOME!!!! And in turn I would have to stay home too. Most of us parents play because of our children. If he cant play neither can I!!! This would be horrible. This whole collusion thing is CRAP!!! I'm not so sure that there is that much collusion in the 10- age brackets. If you were to look around at worlds, Only the best were there. The reason is, Nintendo made a good decision and invited only those who were capable of winning when the BEST players were there to compete. If you cant beat the best, you dont deserve to sit with the best in the world championships.

Finally, after all that.... I have come to this comfortable median.

This rule would be great for the 15+ and possibly the 11-14 (still not sure) But I dont see why we would punish a 10- paticipant for the actions of the adults around them!

Jimmy....I feel your pain, man, I feel your pain.

Regionals....one and done (hey, James, just lose in the finals), that does not seem to be feasible.

If they REALLY wanted to make this work, require all Regionals to be on the same date! Could be done, it really could with enough advanced notice for setup.

Tell me now I have to run a Regional on April 22nd, and you KNOW I will be able to get the venue and details all worked out with NO problem. Make the choice simple....April 22nd, or not at all, and you will get ALL the events on April 22nd, and no debate at ALL. Just give us the time and notice to do it.

BUT VIIIINCE, I want to work at a Regional and play at a Regional. I got your too bad RIGHT HERE! You want to find out who the "super" staff members are who should be turned to for Nationals and Worlds, look at the judges who foregoing playing at the Regionals, and do a good job as a judge.

BUT VIIIINCE, I want to win 2 regionals. OK, harsh, but too bad. That really screams elitism. Pokemon OP is not there to make sure you and your kids can win thousands of dollars of scholarships each year. There are plenty of opportunities for all players in their areas to step up and win. There is an old saying, pigs get fat, hogs get slaughtered. PUI has been fattening us up for a while now on their elite prize programs.

BUT VIIIINCE, if they do this I will quit. Fine, CYA.

Gyms, one and done, yep. Anyone asking for any different is a CLOWN. The gyms were the WORST example of team play last year (OK, States were close).

States, one and done, yep.

Nationals, for the north americans, only able to play in your national, no matter if you have a trip or not, that is fair. Do that. No need for Americans to be Canadian or Mexican National Champion. No good reason at ALL, or vice versa **keep Pablo out, keep Pablo out!** (Hey Pablo, when did you get Canadian Citizenship? LOL)) (Yeah, I pick on Pablo because he wooped up at Worlds) Let Jeremy and Curran play, they should be able to defend their titles at a National event, irrespective of the fact they have their trips already.

Cities...if you have to travel to win a bunch for your ego, do so. Travel to play with friends, and pick up a few extra medals, do so.

Controversial, but talk to you soon. Vince

Vince, Jimmy, quite possibly the best two posts out of the 109 thus far. There is nothing else that I have to say on the one-and-done issue that isn't already stated in one of those posts.

And Venu, you SHOULD be able to go to the Regional, as you have not won one.

The top prize for the Regionals appears to be a trip not to Worlds, but to NATIONALS, which you have not won a trip to as of yet.

I would be surprised if you are not allowed to play in a Nationals Jeremy.

Thanks

Vince

I don't mean to be critical of anyone here, but it seems like one of two things is happening:

1) We're missing a lot of information
OR
2) There are gigantic holes in this plan

Just pointing that out...

I'd go with #1 myself, considering the fact that FAQs for the upcoming events haven't been released yet...

Why would you exclude the -10s from one-and-done?

My own 10 y/o understood the concept immediately when I told him the rules would probably be changed in the new season to if a player won a large prize/trip at an event that player wouldn't be allowed to compete for the same prize in a later event.

The little guys usually have a pretty good idea of 'fairness', IMO...

I will not even justify your opinion with a comment. No matter what the topic you ALWAYS seem to disagree with me.
