'gym: Yeah, we have laws about kids attending schools until 16 and Truant Officers and so forth.
But there is some flexiblity given for trips and certain days, with parent's permission.

Last year wotc did two big "final" tournaments....at gencon and san diego con....
I think pyscodad should get an invite but perhaps so should some of the san diego
winners......many of the best players from the west were at that tournament....

this could also be why nintendo(at the moment) is not using 2003......

I could see them not using 2003 champs since they weren't from an official "Worlds", but I think either the 2002 or 2003 Prof Champ should get to defend the title.

I should note that ranking invites are global based. So you have to be top 16 in the world not just your nation to be in the tournament. There are no national based ranking invites according to my notes.

Another fun factor is that invites and trips will bump down to the next player in the case of a multiple invite winner.

Yeah, I think Psycodad deserves the trip =) Maybe you'll win a GC and won't have to worry about it though, hehe. I'm really glad that Worlds info is up already and that the prizes are wonderful! Hope I can get a trip down there ^_^

Wow, I hope you all can see what an absolutely fantastic opportunity this gives! Armed with this info, I could go into just about any middle, or high school, talk to a guidance counsellor for 5 minutes and hand him/her a flyer that says something like this:

Wanna get a scholarship for playing something fun? As reported at "website such and such" , along with other cool prizes, Nintendo is giving away scholarships ranging from $1000. to $7500. for 48 people. For those who have played the game, now is a great time to test your skills. For those interested in learning how to play, building new skills, and gaining new friends, come to Gamer's Lair in Barrie on Saturdays, from 11 to 3.

You could also cater to the College/University crowd by putting up posters saying something like, "Would you like the opportunity to get more funding for your tuitions while doing something fun? As reported at ....."

Hey, it's a great marketing idea that will get many parents thinking. Maybe here's another way to help your leagues to grow. I'm going to try it out, hopefully we'll have an increase in participants.

I know the European players won't like this but..., I'm sure Nintendo did the best they could with the scheduling. At least here in the U.S., between State Championships, Nationals, Gym Challenges, and Stadium Challenges, there's at least 1 major tournament almost every month until Worlds. If you ask whoever you need to for permission now, and bring up the scholarships and that you would only be missing 2-3 days. I think you might have a better shot.

The 2002 professor champ defended his title unsucessfully last year. I would like that same opportunity.

"Trips are nice, but invites are what the 15+ class would be more worried about." - Douglas Zuver

Sir, perhaps for many of the 15+ trips aren't an issue, but for those of us who have no way to afford a trip down to Orlando without them, they're vital :)

Show me the Money, those scholarships have pretty much bagged me my trip to Nationals so I can try for Worlds.

And I noticed that the prizes are Fire Red and Leaf Green. Could Worlds be their release party?

I agree with you, but if PUI is convinced to allow a Prof Champ defend the 15+ title, they may go by the last Worlds, not an event run independently by WotC.

You never know.

Furret marches in carring a sign:

Orlando and Origins
are the places to be!

Furret turns the sign around:

Happy St. Patrick's Day

Furret marches to another topic.

Doug, it's Spaceship Earth, inside of the world's largest geosphere.

Mission Space has just opened.
(I am still not sure of the name.)
This is the new thing they were building
in place of Horizons next to Test Track
on the Left Side of Future World in EPCOT
as you face the back of the park.
Spaceship Earth is really cool, they wouldn't change it.

Remember when Test Track finally opened,
but the Public was not told immediately.
The World of Motion was torn down to build Test Track.

I have an annual pass and have been to Disney a lot.
Somebody post or email
the Hotel Address for the Worlds Tournament,
and I'll check it out in a week or two.

Thank you for a kind reply to my post.
I appreciate you not flaming me.
Thanks :)

Let me make myself much clearer.

Without any trips, Worlds would be a glorified Florida State Championship.
Nobody would be there.
Without trips Pokemon would suffer greatly.
Without trips Enthusiam would dimish.

However, someone like PsychoDad who was able to afford to
attend Origins already, would at least like an Invitation to Worlds.
Since trips do cost money and there is only so much money to go
around, an invitation is better than nothing.

There are people who should be honored in some way.
My modest request would not cost Pokemon USA more than
a 39 cent stamp. Is that too much to ask?

Let's give BOTH
the 2002 Pokemon Professor World Champion
and
the 2003 Pokemon Professor World Champion
at least an invitation to Worlds.

Nah, IMO it's all about defending the title. Ex-champs have been dethroned by the current champ, so no need to bring them back. They have to earn their way back up through the ranks like the rest of us.

As for finding a defending 15+ champ, I say we go back to the Prof Champ and invite PsychoDad. (Hey ProfDougZ, being from Florida, if you had beaten Dave last year, you might have gotten a free trip to your own state. :) )

I have a question. Since I'm already done with all my college schooling, if I win a scholarship, can I pass it on to my son?

I hope so Steve, although if you and I both win scholarships, and they force us to use them, I guess we could dorm together and take underwater basket weaving, or some other class that could help us with real life!
