Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Worlds 2011 Day 2 thread

Not a single Japanese player makes cut... that has to be a first. Further evidence of this luck based format...

--Edit-- Didn't realize how few Japanese players came... Doesn't changed the amount of luck in the format though

Maybe, but remember also that they've been playing in a different format (Catcher, Beartic, Gothitelle, etc etc) and that they missed their qualifiers due to the Tsunami. I don't think this is completely indicative of the luck-based nature of this format (although there is certainly too much luck in it!)

Can someone offer me help in valuing as it has to do with worlds?
How much does it cost to go to worlds (I won't be able to attend this year)
For the swag like the binder, cards, plushies etc, how much extra is that?

If you make it into worlds with an invite or grind in you get all of that for free. But if you don't go into worlds with an invite or don't grind in, some of the stuff in the bag you won't be able to buy.

However when worlds is in Hawaii a 3 day 4 night with round trip from Europe or The east coast of the US is about 3 grand. It is really nice in Hawaii but if you don't have the invite you might as well not go

I think that I would lean more towards the idea that they did not have a qualifier and that they were too unfamiliar with the format. Just the sheer lack of Japanese (I think only 2 TOTAL) in the main event indicated that they would have a hard time taking spots in the Top Cut (based on probabilities). Could if just be that they were not very well prepared for the event? It is possible for a relatively small number of people to have a bad day?

I personally think that people are putting too much emphasis on the luck.

Does it help to go first? Absolutely, but this can be played around (unless someone get the best start ever).

Does it help to flip tails on the baby? Yes, but people are relying less on babies. If you really want to move them out of the way play Ciruclator.

Is Pokemon Reversal a key card? Absolutely, but you should use the hoarding technique to increase you probability of getting a heads when you absolutely need it. Most people just casually play down their Reversals whenever and hope for heads.

I know a lot of people will disagree. So, try not to flame me too hard. That is just my two cents.

Yeah I wouldn't be going to Hawaii xD
But for the binder, plushie, are those only for those who got invites?

Thanks for all the support, guys! This is way better than I ever expected for my first World Championships, and I'm hoping to have a great run!

The players in my games all showed a lot of class, everyone was respectful and friendly and I really had a great time! The final game against Sami was great (I think our lists are only 3ish cards apart)--props to him for having such an amazingly consistent run at Worlds each year!

@ajhawk I mained Reshiphlosion up until around 2-3 weeks ago when I decided that it'd be a good idea to learn two decks. I liked Reshiram (still think it's a great play), but it's a pretty linear strategy and didn't think it gave me enough options to outplay people. I logged a ton of games with both and ended up liking MegaZone better, and eventually decided it'd be my deck to play for Worlds. I tested a LOT in the two days before (around 10-20 games a day), and I had a deck crisis around 11 at night last night when I lost around 5-6 games to various Reshiram players, and was really close to changing decks last minute (just ask Eli Moses lol). In the end decided I'd take what was freshest in my head, and I couldn't be happier with how things ended up.

Trying my best tomorrow!

BLAAAAAAAAAARRRRGGGGG!

Austin, you almost made it. :C Great job though! :DD

Good luck to JWITTZ and Grafton R.
PS: can someone tell me what deck Austin A. played?

^ Good move on sticking to what you know. I see so many people changing decks last minute that tank due to not having practice. Very respectable move, sir.
