Worlds 2011 - San Diego, CA USA

All this talk of hurricanes and Florida is interesting and all, but how about we deal with some facts?

2004

Pokemon World Championship - Aug 20-22
Hurricane Charley - Aug 13-14
Hurricane Frances - Sep 5

In 2004, Hurricane Charley had passed through Florida a week before. And there were some storms on the weekend following Charley, but there was no hurricane during Worlds. Just a strong storm.


2008

Pokemon World Championship - Aug 15-17
Tropical Storm Fay - Aug 18, TS Fay hits land in South Florida.

Again, no hurricane. AFTER 2008 Worlds, Tropical Storm Fay came through and dumped a lot of rain, but don't get excited. It wasn't a hurricane.
 
I think San Diego, CA is the perfect spot. Not only is it by the ocean so everyone has access to beaches but its a cool area in general with lots of other activities available. This area also benefits the players coming from Mexico. And California has one of the highest player bases of any state just by looking at the States and Regionals attendance numbers.

but what did all these storms do to the plans of those overseas and other players who came early or stayed late in order to make a vacation out of the trip to worlds?

for example: i remember seeing photos linked on the 'gym of damage at the orlando airport as people arrived for worlds '04, and concerns about damage to booked hotels, power outages, etc. and i heard from european friends about plans for disney etc. being ruined by the storm following worlds in '08...

1. Hurricane Charley caused concerns, but it didn't prevent travel.

2. TS Fay kept people from enjoying the parks on Monday, that's a fact. But it wasn't a hurricane.

I didn't even know there was a Hurricane hitting Florida.

So, really, if it doesn't effect Pokemon in the slightest, what's the point of bringing it up?

California is just as prone to Forest Fires and Earthquakes as Florida is to Hurricanes!

Yeah because a forest fire is deathly close to San Diego's beaches correct?

And sure we have earthquakes....but when was the last time we had a major earthquake a WEEK before worlds?!

There gotta be an open gaming room available next year at hilton if that happens again.

No open gaming room = Sad and unhappy Mew.
