Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Worlds staff?

shhh, dont let others find out the secret technique into becoming PTO... I can neither confirm nor deny that tequila bribes will get you anywhere on life...

Vince, Mike is on staff. You are right, he is tops!
Guys, PUI is trying to do not a good but a great job at their preimer events, and the key to that is consistency. You cannot just play round robin and give as many prof. a " turn " to judge because they want a staff promo or shirt or such. I know many prof. who would make great judges, and I'm sure some would not. If you always change the staff, you never know what you end up with......not good at worlds. And Vince is right about sacrifice......counting the prof. cup I played in 3 events all year.
To those who want to help IF they don't make it in the grinder........well, we sure couldn't staff worlds with that kind of commitment :)............but I'm sure some of you will be chosen to help.
Notice how smooth nat'ls went this year........or worlds last year. We have great staff! Now bring me some great players!

OK, just for the record here. I wasn't asking to be staffed into the main tournament. I certainly understand the level of commitment PUI would be looking for there and the need to staff the main tournament with people with a proven record of being the best there is.

I was just looking to help out somewhere on the side if there's going to be a need there. I'd be glad to do it on a volunteer basis. I'm not looking for any free product or any other "goodies".

Voltorb, does that mean you're playing in the main event? I can't wait to see your "flippy" deck.

I just want the exclusive "STAFF" stamped promo.

FWIW, I've noticed that Team Compendium crew, PokeGym mods/admins, and major PTOs have the inside track to get called to staff major POP events. Become one of those guys/gals and your chances are very good. I'm kicking myself in the butt because when POP first started up, I chose to let my store owner become the major PTO in CO so that I could play more often (and under the old WOTC system, it was hard to become a PTO unless you were a store owner). Oh well. Playing is lots of fun too. You just have to earn your trip to Worlds thru competition instead of hard, behind-the-scenes labor.

I'm playing in the main tournament if I finish high enough in the grinder. That assumes I can stay awake long enough to finish the grinder. I'm about a two hour drive away from the Tampa airport, so I'm looking at having to leave the house at around 3:00 AM (that's midnight San Diego time) in order to make my flight.

By the time the grinder starts at 5:00 PM Pacific time, I will have been up for 17 hours. That's about this old man's limit. Here's hoping I can catch some Z along the way and/or a quick nap before the grinder starts.

You're welcome to look at my deck, but I guarantee there won't be a single flip card in it. Still, I expect the results of all my opponents' ER2 and Reversal flips will determine how far I go.

Actually I'm finding I have less and less time for Pokemon these days. I'm part of a Southern Gospel singing group and it's a rare weekend indeed when I don't hop on the bus and head down the road somewhere. I've already had to miss out on judging several of Heidi's tournaments for this reason. I imagine rising to that level would take a WHOLE lot more time than I have to give at the moment.

Really! Just look at those who staffed last year's Worlds and this year's Nationals. Point out one of them to me who isn't a TC member, PokeGym admin/mod, and/or major PTO.

I'm not saying you get to staff if you're one of those. I'm just saying that it appears those are the common demoninators. Nothing wrong with that -- in fact, it's a good thing. All staffers are major, behind-the-scenes laborers.

I think BJJ is feeling left out if being a PokeGym mod is the criteria.
I think he makes an excellent judge!
Cautioned me 3 times at the NJ Stadium this year! :D

I don't know why, but I think that BJJ, PokePop and SD Pokemom should rule the world. I'll be their royal successor .

*Takes a bow*

"I think PUI takes its reccomendations from its veteran staff members seriously.

You want to staff at Worlds,,,what have you done at the local/regional scene?

I know there are a lot of GREAT people who are not staffing worlds (PTOs, power gym leaders), who I would turn to in a heartbeat, especially from my surrounding area, but I think the key is make a splash on your local scene. Work your way up to get noticed at a Regional or Gym Challenge as a superior judge...and then the rewards could follow...""

I agree with M45.....

Hard work will get you noticed....I have a local TO that will be come a PTO soon. I have other local TOs looking forward to help me hold pre releases and cities.....Local League leaders and professors that also help out..

It is there hard work...dedication to the game and they got noticed by PUI...and have been rewared...

I think that is the wrong reason to be wanting to Judge.... I think you should do it for wanting to help out... not to get a card that maybe cool and worth lots of $$$...
IMO...

Come on now. I'm joking here a bit.

Nevertheless, ask just about any judge or gym leader and there's an expectation of some kind of compensation when volunteering to help, even if that's nothing more than an "attaboy." My local PTO is the best because he "goes out of his way" to compensate his staff.

For many on the Worlds staff, I imagine that the best "compensation" is nothing more than the feeling of being part of an elite team. Hats off to POP for going beyond that and providing both tangible and intangible compensation.
