There was a tremendous uproar in recent weeks when POP announced that all art-backed sleeves would no longer be legal for most premiere tournaments. In addition to a topic in our forums, we also ran a poll of various alternate proposals that players would rather see, ranging from "all sleeves legal" to full support of the original POP ruling.

Well, POP listened to your feedback and has ruled that "official Pokemon sleeves" with solid colored edges will be allowed! This includes Japanese Pokemon sleeves, such as those illustrated here.
Current Ultra Pro Pokemon sleeves do not meet the criteria, due to their edges, however rumor has it that new ones might be coming out that will meet the rules!

Thanks everyone for contributing your voices!

They where banned because of you could esily cheat with them,
by putting one or more specific cards upside down so that you
can recignize that card.

sorry but im still a n--b
why the sleeves are banned
can anyone tell me how?

There was the possibility of marking sleeves in such a way as to be unnoticed, but , more importantly, it was because of certain art sleeves out there that weren't meant to be seen by children. There was first a rule that left judgement up to TOs/HJs, but they later decided that an all-encompasing rule would be more practical.

However, it is important to note that A. the rule only extended to Premiere events (excluding Prereleases), and B. the rule has been changed, as reported above.

Well this is a good start to progress. Now if PUI can start producing their own "logo" sleeves, they can sell them to make some money where they won't have to be making so many cuts to other things! They should sell deckboxes and dice too and start earning some extra fundage!

I am very pleased to hear this, not only is it good news they are listening to us, but for some players having cool deck sleeves is an important part of the game. Why would the Pokemon Company release Matrix Holo Energies if it weren't for poshing up our decks?? This part should never be underestimated..
