Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

2006-2007 Modified format announced!

So does this mean Spain, Portugal, Brazil, et al will jump to this format, or will they continue to have some of the older sets still legal?

you know, maybe that is why we got DX-On, to let the other countries who are behind sets still have the same modified format.

I think I'll like it better without Admin. But we're also losing Oak's Research and Copycat. However, I'm very sure one of these will be reprinted in a Trainer kit or as a promo or in a later set.

I have to admit, I'm a little disappointed. I was hoping that we'd finally be rid of Pokémon with searcher powers. Oh well, there's always the next format.

why would you want search pokemon to go away. without them the game is like 1/2 as slow. Pidgeot is gone, but Cargo is back :) . jynxfett dies though, which kinda sux cause i just built it 2 days ago:(. but thank the heavens that LBS dies!!!

Hmm, mixed feelings.

I guess I wouldnt mind if it was EM-on, but I dont mind it now either.
POW!, Admin and Swoop all gone is bound to have a major impact.

I hope everyone now learned that the number of sets dropped in format changes is totally unpredictable and without any pattern. I can't even remember how many hundred stupid topics I've seen with subjects like "Here's my deck for the next format, EM-ON!" or "which cards will be good in the new format? Discuss here!" during the last 6-8 months.

I hope nobody goes into the same trap again next year. The hype went too far this time, many people believed EM-on was the next format so much that they took it for a fact. Don't believe the hype, don't think too far ahead, just wait for the format announcement.

And for everyone who got too absorbed in the hype and traded away all their Magcargos and Jirachis: don't be angry, just be embarassed and don't do the same mistake ever again. :D

We had 5 sets left (HL, RG, TRR, DX, EM) after World's and now we have 6 (DX, EM, UF, DS, LM, and HP). Does this mean that less sets will be printed this year? Mike?

PUI's standard release schedule will not be changing in the coming years. We will continue to push for a 4-set cut in coming years, but realize that OP is not the only department that makes a decision on what the new format will look like.

why did we only cut 3 major sets and one pop set what is the point? Could POP have cut at least 2 more major sets. How does POP deside what sets to cut?

We originally wanted to cut 4 sets (EM-On). However, if we went that route we'd have 2 Modified formats again; DX-On and EM-On. That would have just been silly. R&D also felt that DX was a strong set, and would be a good to have in the environment for another year.

Lets see replace ment of trainer cards

Celios=PETM (In terms of getting a pokemon)
Copycat=Holon Scientist (In terms of drawing the same number of cards as your opponent)
Dessert Ruins= Cursed Stone (In terms of placing damage counters)
Stevens Advice= Field Worker or Marys Request (In terms of drawing cards)
Pow!= Pokemon Reversal and energy removal 2 (Disruption)

Tego: Not a chance. Rampant speculation is an intergal part of the game.

You mean you're not going to force people into another costly upgrade? Of course I have a degree in Computer Science, so I always think that way.

Does keeping Deoxys in the format have anything to do with the fact that Emerald was not a 'set' in Japan (our Emerald was a mixture of Japanese Promos and QCP Theme Decks)?

I also think that keeping at least some sort of searcher is beneficial for the game, Japan does not have a 'rotating format' as we do, so PCL has no need to make searchers in the more recent sets, and moving to a format with no decent search could come as a shock to many of the TCG's newer players.
