Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

2007-2008 Modified Format Announced! Major Changes!

Mike, Dave, Pete, why is Legend Maker being rotated out? It's obvious DS had to go, Transceiver is too broken, but why Legend Maker? The only really good cards in Legend Maker are Mew EX, Banette EX, Roselia, Misdreavus, and maybe a few Stadiums. And Mew EX isn't nearly as broken now, with Cessation Crystal, Gardevoir EX d, and only having 90 HP. If five sets are being rotated to get rid of the EX series quickly, can't you rotate LM, HP, CG, DF, and PK next year? Please don't kill off Legend Maker.:frown:

For all the posts not on topic, can someone answer a question that is?

well this my 2 cents .... The ones that complaint the most benefited the most in the past .....just move on....adjust ....welcome the change.

I still don't see why we can't adopt japan's rule set. Obviously their market hasn't crashed. I'm well aware that we rotate a few sets every so often, 5 is too many. Yes, electivire is legal, but everything that makes him playable is not legal, He was an expensive card about a week ago, now he's worth squat. You all make some decent points, but the fact of the matter is, re gardless how much sense you try and make of it, we still have a crippled ruleset compared to japan, which to me is just flat out silly. PUI is selling expensive paper, they're making tons of money off of it, no doubt. I fail to beleive that they need more, unless they're gonna go back to spending some of it on us for prize support.

Essentially, i'm being told to "bite the bullet" and just go with it. Personally, i'm a bit tired of PUI trampling all over our toes, We bust our butts to promote their game, run their leagues, and all those good things, and we're seeing less and less thanks for it. I still say it's all about greed, because it is, and I still say they couldn't give a rat's behind about what we think, because that's also true.

We don't adopt the Japan rule set because they are not the same as the rest of the world when it comes to Pokemon Trading Card game. They are the ones that get most things first and do things different. I have heard enough about Japan but it is a different place and different rules. Japan has many things for Pokemon TCG that I doubt any place else will ever see. Bringing up Japan doesn't make much of an arguement to me since they have a ruling body and the rest of the world has a different one. Release of sets helps decide how things work as well. This has all been said before. There were only 3 sets rotated out last year and 4 is the number desired. 3 was not what they wanted last year but this year they wanted to get back on schedule for 4 a year so that made 5 sets. Doesn't seem like rocket science to me. If you don't like what will happen with Electivire then try something wild and different. Try it with CG Charizard. Might not be optimal to some but I still see ways to use Electivire. So the price dropped. That is the way things work. Talk to some of the people who by First Editions of books or collects comic books about the market. Some hold value when those are re-printed and some become worthless. Pokemon is a game and making money is vital to keep the game going. Would you buy any more cards is sets were not rotated? Would you just by the minimum you needed to trade for the few new cards you needed? You said it is expensive paper. So what if it is. Find some D&D or other such roleplayers and ask them about expensive paper. I know what they would say to you if you walked up and said "I saw that 4th edition AD&D is coming out". I do think there are some problems but I do think that PUI/POP is trying to give back.

Talk you want. I will not tell you to stop. I feel the current ratings system is far from fostering good will and friendly play. The current ratings system to me is meant to be cutthroat. I think PUI/POP is trying to get things right. I don't think they have done anything wrong with set rotation. I think they are always trying to balance and sometimes get it wrong. I have voiced disapproval of decisions and not going to say need to "bite the bullet". I will say that I disagree with you. I got into this game with the knowledge that once my nephew started competing in Premier Events that I would have to borrow from nice players and Professors and spend money. I have given cards away but rarely trade them. I am lucky enough that my nephew has finished high enough to win packs. I have a PTO that will at times loan out his decks to someone who needs a deck to play. I have loaned out decks and borrowed decks to play. Some people buy what they need and others try to find a group of friends to lean on to make decks. Without such friends myself then maybe I would feel different. I still would not blame PUI/POP for the decision though. This is exactly what I expected to happen when I got into Pokemon. I started playing Magic during Beta edition. I learned about rotating then. I feel for anyone who gets into this game and doesn't realize it will happen. I explain that to anyone that I help out that is new. I never buy anything but the newest set out. If I don't have something then I will either try to trade for it or live without it.

I keep seeing GREED brought up but how about the people who only want the maximum for their stuff and get others at the minimum. I hardly trade for that reason. I know what I want but only if I give x4 of what they want to get the 1 thing I want. GREED is not something I think of when I think of PUI/POP. I think of people trading cards. Most of the people I know around here though will loan stuff to others to make a deck for a tournament. This includes cards such as Holon Transciever and Mew EX. Guess that does not happen everywhere. Glad I am lucky in where I am at.

It was an anomoly that only 3 were rotated out last year.
Even if only 4 sets were rotated out this year, that 4th set would be DS.
That's the main reason that DS is out. There would have to be some major reason for POP to only rotate out 3 sets again this year. There exists no major reason. Therefore, DS is out. The only set that was questionable was LM. That could have gone either way (no inside knowlegde, just based on my understanding of the principles behind Modified).

Legend Maker is the only place where I, as a beginner, feel hurt. Had no problem adapting to the idea of rotation, and taking it into account when considering whether a card would work for next season, but with a precedence of 3-4 sets a year rotated out had thought Legend Maker was okay. So now I am burned despite forthought and thinking it a bit injust.

I think POP is great and don't think anyone is trying to abuse consumers. But I think keeping the rotation stable and predictable would minimize trauma to the minds and pocketbooks of players.

A lot of people I knew was thinking (though hoping not) there would be 5 sets rotated this year and LM was one of the sets they thought would be rotated. Everyone told me that last year made since when it was released since was trying to put the world (except Japan) close to having the same modified format. At that time, they said it was probable that 5 sets would rotate this year and when I asked why (had been in Pokemon TCG less than a year) they said because 4 sets were released a year. Since 4 sets then should expect rotations to try and rotate that many out. With that information being told to me then I passed it on to any new player that I helped get started. Is why I don't ever suggest older packs and I tell the person why.

:eek::eek::eek::eek:

I just read this after being out of the game for a couple of months! At the most I thought they would only rotate DX-UF out! I just spent $10.00 on a Holon's Transceiver on ebay, and I'm not even able to work right now because of an upcoming surgery! *starts sobbing at his desk*

Hey.
This may seem like a silly question but i haven't played in years and we have created a small pokemon group again where i play Yu-Gi-Oh!.

After this new set rotation what sets will be legal? I'm unfamilliar with all the sets currentley legal/illegal and the ones going off. I don't want to buy a bunch of cards only to have them un-useable in a few months.

Thanks in advance.

Holon Phantoms
Crystal Guardians
Dragon Frontiers
Power Keepers
Diamond & Pearl
POP4
POP5
Black Star Promos #037 and up
will be legal.

The only greedy person I see around here is you, [R]Visitor . You want PUI to develop new cards, manufacture new cards and market new cards while you make money off of selling old cards. You want PUI to give out larger prizes and charge less for the packs. You want everything for free. Maybe you should find another CCG to play and let the rest of us have fun playing our TCG. You seam to be the loudest mouth around here and I am beginning to think you don't get enough attention at home so you are taking it out on PUI.

As for me, I think PUI is doing a fantastic job with this game and I played Magic the gathering when it started it all and I got bored with it. PUI has kept the game play exciting and fair for everyone, current players and new players. I gladly play the new price per a pack to show my support for the game, the same reason I pay $20 for a CD to support my favorite bands. See you all at the next tournament!!
