Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

2011 Houston Regionals TWO DAY thoughts

So what's a comfortable time for Sunday? Have players in by 9:15 am with a start time of 10:00 am?

Since it's only eight players, couldn't there be a bit less time separating player arrival and start time? 9:30 or even 9:40 seem better.

10:00 AM start time sounds perfect, since everyone would probably be getting out around 2:00 PM at the latest. That gives close-by players the rest of their evenings, and traveling players ample time to drive back home/catch their flights.

I'll take this into consideration, thanks.

Food for thought guys, (Jimmy Ballard is helping me with a time line).

Keep in mind I'm talking about the ONE day event here.

As mentioned, we'll have a food vendor on site which is operated by the Race Park. Knowing they'll be open all day, what if.....

I scrap the lunch break. Players have ample time to eat throughout the day without leaving the Pavilion. Then instead of an hour dinner break, offer a 30 minute dinner break between Swiss & Top Cut.

Thoughts?

This would save about an hour and 15 minutes.

Thoughts?

All day food vendor = win. At the marathon, lunch breaks were scrapped and people still managed to find food between rounds without a vendor on hand, so this seems not only possible, but much better since we'll have food available at the event.

That sounds very doable, Mike. My only suggestion right now is to make players aware of their options in case someone (god forbid) goes to time in all of his/her games: encourage friends and parents to wait in line on behalf of their friends, and this should go off without a hitch.

I'm eager to see what the time line looks like.

Lol, that's me. All most all of my matches go to time.

And worst case scenario, we could always pack lunches...Ya know, like we did back in high school?

Mike, I know that the vendor is part of the Track, but would they be opposed if additional vendors were available in the Parking lot, from sat 11am to 1pm and then again from 5pm to 7pm? You could always contact food trucks and mobile/catering style companies (bbq, burger shacks, etc.)

I like either way. I know States last year went until 2am. and Regionals later if I remember right..... and eliminating the Lunch break would save a large chunk of time and also allow for the Younger divisions to not go as late!

Honestly, the more I think about, the T8 2nd day is a nice touch. However, I am still one of those one day warriors that have built the stamina for it.
Does not really matter for 1 or 2 days, it is a Team Cook Production so will be AWESOME!

Agreed with Fish: it's gotten to the point where either option would be fine. This thread's been very productive!

I really like the Top 8 second day idea that was put out there. But either option is cool as it will be a fun day regardless, just not as much downtime which may be a plus for the people who wait...

I've decided to do a two day tournament. Overall I think it will make for a better event. I would like to think everyone that contributed opinions and advice.

I'll do a time line on the main Regionals thread but to give you a heads up, we'll do Swiss and any top cut above top 8 on day 1 and top 8 on Sunday morning. I'll also provide donuts, kolaches, and juice for top cut on day two.

Side events, if any, will be held Saturday evening. Players and family are welcome to come Sunday morning. With only a max of 24 players in top cut, we'll have plenty of room for guest.

We'll also hold a Friday night event in The Woodlands. We can do a practice session or if y'all want a tournament, we can do that too. Just let me know.

Last year I couldn't find a hotel near the Race Park to offer a decent deal. Since top cut will be here in The Woodlands area (18 miles north of the Race Park), I'll check TW area hotels.

Danny - The Race Park will not allow outside food vendors on the property.

I'm still open to suggestions for Friday, Saturday, & Sunday for a successful event.

I'll have fliers made and will pass them out at States.

Rolling 8-man single elim side events when the Swiss rounds aren't happening. When you get 8 players, you go. You can do Draft, Modified, or Unlimited formats, and 2/3. Out of those 8 players, there's bound to be somebody who knows what they're doing, so Judge staff could spend more time on the main event.

Casual stuff. Art corner. Beach Ball stuff. Cakewalk. M45 does these better than anybody, though Pokemama is also a good resource for this.
