Battle roads prize support

OK, now I am going to go where I have gone before.

Everyone mentions BRs as a "Grow the Game" opportunity event.

I disagree. Respectfully.

Regionals is my "Grow the Game" event.

What do people get for going to a BR? An event where they can sit, get no participation prize, and have a fun time with friends for free.

Sounds a lot like a Prerelease without the entry fee, new packs, sleeves or promo.

I always have felt that Battle Roads is where we should be giving out the Pokeballs, and other fun items for the players in masse. Fall battle roads are at the beginning of the season, and are a "jumping off" point for the fall league cycle (That is what we use them for).

Where is the event where I have the budget to do mass giveaways, and lots of fun extras for players? Regionals.

Where do I have kids leaving, excited about the next Poke'event? Regionals.

What do they have left? A prerelease, and Battle Roads.

I wish we would OPEN the season off with Regionals in September/October/early November. Get the kids hyped about Pokemon just before the November release, and the holidays, where, gasp, their parents may want to BUY them Pokemon stuff!!!

Then we carry them through cities, states, and spring battle roads.

Why not have a big points event EARLY in the season? I think it would balance the season (peeks around for psyduck to discount that hypothesis).

There you go, my 2 cents, being an organizer who runs ALL of the sized events!!

The rating system would function better as a rating system with some high point events early to push players apart and give the nonlinear ratings equation something to work with for the rest of the season.

[edit: not just move the events around but have an extra set of high point events between september and end november. The OP year has four set releases typically. I'd like to see a big points event between each of the releases.]

That also would help me, as well as other competitive players stay more interested in the game at this time of the year. I go to league because im a leader, but if i wasnt helping the kids i guarantee you i wouldnt touch a card until cities.

Meganium45, I would say that Battle Roads serve to support the local stores. Regionals do not get held in local stores. They get held in big halls. So, Pokemon goes uses local stores with BRs and CCs in the fall but discontinues support to them in the Spring when the focus moves to big halls for SCs and RCs, and then Nats. The timing of another BR series in the Spring definitely benefits those stores that are begging for pkmn events, as well as providing another tournament for those players who don't get to travel distances to SCs and RCs.

Just wanted to say that your Regionals last year is what turned us into a "poke family" . My daughter (junior) found out about it a few days before it took place (conveniently near her birthday) and talked us into going. She'd only played a few times at league so I researched to make sure her deck was legal and that she understood how to play (printed out a ton of info from the go-pokemon site for her to study on the 4 1/2 hour card ride LOL). Well, she had an absolute blast at the event. The side events were incredible (she won first place in the Junior's art contest ) and when she got home she told everyone she knows how fantastic it was.'

We've hit every premier event (except Worlds) since then and Dad, younger sis and I plan on playing in the upcoming battle roads. Though our local events are great (we have an excellent organizer) they can't compare to the fun and excitement of regionals / nationals. If we had started off with battle roads I don't know if we would have made the long trip to regionals / nationals.

Thank you for hosting such wonderful events!
