Boundaries Crossed Scans!

I don't mind the sets having reprints alongside new content. It would be nice for each set having 20+ trainers.

Why don't people like Sugimori artwork? I find it AWESOME!

I don't like it because concept art should not be used for production of goods unless you have a in game mode showing the production stages of character development or a section on a book (game guides and related art books) that shows the concept art for the series. . Concept art should be used for references only.

When Pokemon uses it, it just seems lazy. I don't really like stock art on cards and thats what Sugimori's artwork is.

They could've reprinted helpful stuff, like Random Reciever, Catcher and Eviolite.

What bothers me is that they chose to include Rocky Helmet, but excluded its counterpart in the Keldeo Strength Deck-Eviolite.

I really don't like that they took 1 of an obvious pair (the clearly lesser one AND the one that has a Shiny reprint in the set) and left the other out.

Sugimori artwork is equivalent to copying a picture from google and pasting it onto Microsoft Paint. It is nothing special, even an 8 year old can make a pokemon card by copying a picture and pasting it to a background. Sugimori's artwork was already used in Player's guides for the DS games and in the magazines. I just don't like recycled images, especially when we are paying money for an image we saw before and for free. (assuming you did not buy the magazine or player's guide in the store)

Also, I do not get why Voltorb was pasted onto a forest background for the boundaries crossed set. It would have been more creative if it were pasted near a power plant in real life. Is it a floating voltorb flying above the forest? Eh, it does not matter. Sugimori art IMO is lazy and already used.

These statements...

Maybe a few folks would be upset about not having FA Skyla, but that doesn't have any amount of bearing on TCPI reprinting cards that were not needed, and cutting potentially game changing cards like escape rope, ether, and bicycle.

The COL thing doesn't make a bit of sense either. Cutting new cards from the set and reprinting old card seems like something that would actually cause another COL set.

The obvious solution would be to literally print the exact same sets as Japan, but of course that will never happen.

In general dropping cards from a set is never going to be looked upon by the player base as an acceptable thing.

My biggest gripe though is the idea that we have to deal with the "fluff". We should NOT have to deal with the fluff. There should NOT be fluff. Pokemon as a card game has the most ridiculous % of cards that will never be used. No other card game has 75-85% of their sets being comprised of unplayable cards.

/rant

tl;dr; TPCI should never cut cards from our sets we should get the exact same sets as Japan(we wont). Fluff cards should not exist in such high proportions(They will forever).
We mad...
i am played mtg for 5 years now and when they release a new set of 150-250 cards or so there may only be 25-30 that see any real play. you have to remember that when they are making a new set it is the league players they have in mind. the good cards are just treat for us. it is the same for mtg and i bet it is the same for yugioh

The huge thing is MTG has many other sanction formats rights? So if a card is not good for the highest level of play, they may be good in a 'less' competitive or different format. Same with Yugioh, with their huge card pool, any deck can been made. Pokemon only has 1 sanction format. The only tournaments are highest level of play. If Pokemon had other sanction formats (Common/Uncommon-Common/Uncommon/Rare and or holo, draft etc), then the less powerful card can see play.

Pokemon does not recognize any other format other then modified and thats a problem. Its also evident with the reprinting of Bill as a supporter and Computer Search. Its like disrespect to the game.

there are are a few play styles but even then vast majority of cards are not playable. in mtg you may get 1 card every set that sees play in the legacy format and 3-4 cards that see play in modern format. and is is very hard to find people to play eather format. as far as draft you take what you can get and build a deck you only play 3 rounds with.

Don't they use limited as a competitive format though?

Don't they use limited as a competitive format though?

Here's the difference between Magic Limited and Pokemon LImited.

In Magic Limited, there is no such thing as a useless card. Sure, there are cards that are not as good as other cards. But every card (or nearly every card) can be played.

In a Pokemon Limited event, you can be almost certain that about 30% of the cards that you pull cannot possibly be played in any deck that you might want to put together.

The reason for this?

Pokemon has a concept of Evolution that is central, nay, VITAL to the core of the game. Magic does not.

There is a fan-made semi-fix to this called the Mutant format, but it'll never be run officially by the Pokemon Company. It will only and always remain a fan-only thing. That being said, I LOVE running these things, as I think they're just about the most skill-based format that Pokemon can possibly deliver, on both ends of the spectrum.

they do but i guess i should should said earlier that i was comparing constructed formats. saying something is good in limited is like saying something is good for league play. in limited most cards will see play. not because they are the best of the best but because they are what you happen to have. at the store i play at most of our limited players don't even bother to take the cards they drafted home they just leave them on the table. unless it is a moony card that is
