BR Donk Report Thread

The rotation is happening regardless of you running Sabledonk. Glad you dedicated an entire day towards absolutely nothing.

If you have solid proof of the rotation happening before Nats I'm sure no one will run Sabledonk at upcoming BRs.

Until then people will continue to run it because they feel it's the best way to show the need for an early rotation.

Yes, because regular donks don't show that?

Stop justifying running a deck that doesn't require skill. We copied Japan's rules, we'll copy the rotation. The online game only has HGSS-on packs. The newer card blisters and such have none of the older stuff. Rotation IS happening.

Just wanted to point out that the Online game using only HGSS-on packs means nothing for a mid-season rotation.

The Online game isn't supposed to come out of beta til Autumn, after Worlds and the standard rotation date. It makes sense for it to be HGSS-on in beta in preparation. It has no bearing on whether or not we get a mid season rotation.

Played Sabledonk at Cornelius, NC BR and went 5-0 in Swiss. All 5 were donks with 4 players not even getting a turn. I felt bad for 2 newish players who didn't know what hit them as I ran through my entire deck. Ran into a Gyradonk in top cut (he donked 4 of 5 games) and I didn't go first, so he got out a ton of pokes on his turn. Missed 11 of 12 blowers in 3 game set to lose. Yeah, the format is broken.

If there needed to be PROOF to prove that we need a format change. The regular donks that occur all the time will be the proof. Both tournys I went to (plus each that my friends went to) recorded how many donks took place. Sabledonk is not the only way to show donking. So there, you don't need to play Sabledonk, normal donks show the same thing.

Again, we copied Japan's rule changes. why wouldn't we copy their rotation? Heck, why would Pokemon even bring up the subject matter of a mid season rotation? There's literally no signs that Pokemon won't go through with the rotation yet Merchandising, rule changes, announcements all seem to point elsewhere.

I swear, freaken donk players be thinking they martyrs :v Donks happen already, you don't need to play donk decks. If Pokemon is gonna ignore normal donks, they are gonna ignore sabledonk as well. YOURE HAVING NO IMPACT. You're just hurting the game.

I'm biased, I feel like I had to try really hard to make top cut at a BR with Scizor/Umbreon/Yanmega (hey, I'm fairly new to this game, so I'm taking pride :v) so seeing these donk people winning with ease, hurting the game, and overall just hurting the the experience of a tournament I spend 3 hours combined driving to and from. I dunno, man. It sucks D:

I can hope you're right, but im going to play sabledonk just to be sure haha. Formats already in a hole for BRs, hopefully P!P can dig us out with this rotation.

Honestly, I can give you that. BRs already failing. Sooo why not

It's not about what we need though, it never has been in Pokemon, if that we're the case, we wouldn't have rotated Majestic Dawn-on to start this season. You're right though, Sabledonk is not the only way to show what's wrong with the format, most people are running 4 Sableye in their deck, not because they can pull of the donk(Although still include cards like Crobat and Unown DARK), but because it gives the player with Sableye an obvious advantage when combined with the new trainer rules.

I'm not entirely sure on this, but Japan had both an FRLG-on format while we had HP-on, as well as a Platinum-on format after HGSS came out. I don't think we've ever really kept our rotation in line with Japans other than our first year of DP-on.

P!P isn't specifically looking at donks, they're looking at the compatibility of the BW rules with the MD-AR cards. Sableye, Uxie and Crobat G for example all have easy ways to exploit the new rules, which is why it's the main deck to showcase the issues.

It sucks, I know. But if you feel cheated after an hour and half drive, imagine feeling the same way after a 3+ hour flight. Going to Nats/Worlds and being knocked out of a 9 round tournament within 4 rounds while only having maybe one legitimate game.

Although, I do agree that this is hurting BRs because it's basically acting as a testing ground which isn't inviting for newer players.

Not only that, but they should also be looking at attendance numbers as I would expect low attendance worldwide. That alone should clearly show to P!P that this format is broken with players not even playing in these tournaments.

How do you use 12 Blower in one game? o.o

Edit: misread!

@ Dual_Draw I agree with everything you said, BUT again, donks in general are showing how bad the format is. Why do you need to play Sabledonk to prove a point when regular donks prove same thing? There were WAY too many donks with ordinary meta decks, if all those are happening anyway, why play Sabledonk?

Because Sabledonk PROVES a point.
The early rotation is NOT guaranteed.
I hate donk decks, but if we want a good Nats/Worlds, this must happen.

So the sheer amount of normal donks doesn't prove a thing? The judges at these events are only recording the number of donks for fun, right?

If only we all had 12 hours

The rest of us are stuck with Settlers of Catan or Dominion :thumb:
Civ The Board Game version is only 2-3 hours.

I don't just denounce Sabledonk. I denounce a game where the mechanics and game pieces provide the possibility of victory on the first turn or two.

I still like playing Pokemon, but I prefer casual play. When playing casually (ie., at league), there's more incentive to play "reasonable" decks.

To be honest, I don't want to go to Battle Roads this time because of sableye. I've gone to at least two battle roads in one set of them (spring for example) every year I've been playing (since they started). The sableye thing is just really discouraging me from going. I've seen a guy who had two reshiram and a 70hp tepig in play be donked by it with an atrocious amount of junk arm, uxie, crobat g, poke turns, radars, poke blowers, seeker, good rod, pluspower, and of course expert belt, etc. I feel bad for some of the juniors who had to go through with this too. P!P is making a good move by at least contemplating the HGSS-on rotation.

Lancaster, CA

R1: 1-0. I take all 6 prizes in one turn. About 10 minutes in.
R2: 1-1: Got donked by Sabledonk with 3 pokemon in play. I had a uxie in my hand and didn't play it. My fault.
R3: 2-1: Took all 6 prizes in one turn. About 10 minutes in.
R4: 3-1: Cleared my opponent's field in about 10 minutes.
R4: 4-1: I won quickly
Semis: 5-1: Game 1 I donk with Emboar. Game 2 he donks with Sableye. Game 3 I take all 6 prizes in one turn.
Finals: 6-1: Gmae 1 I try to donk but fail and now all of resources are wasted. Game 2 I get setup and wipe the field. Game 3 I donk with Emboar.

BR #1: Got donked round1 by trainerdos. Was playing sableye and 19 basics. Started lone crobat. Ended up also donking someone by starting Sableye/Belt/Sp Dark. (Was playing LoxChomp)

Br#2: Got donked round 1 by sabledonk. We both started sabel, it came down to the coin flip. Also played vs a Gengar SF deck and donked their lone Gastly. (played loxchomp)

4 donks have happened in my 9 games at brs. Even if Sabledonk isn't winning the BR, donk decks are still ruining other's chances of winning in the early rounds. My friend also either donked or was donked like 4/5 games at BR#2, he was running Speedos. My other friend running speedos donked once and got donked once.

See, it's things like this that bug me. You all say you loath Sableye and that getting donked is the bane of your existence, and then you go and play Sabldonk yourself. That is beyond hypocritical in my books. My opinion is this: if you play Sabldonk you're just making it less enjoyable for everyone else, you don't have much fun yourself(yay! I donked all of my opponents!....Now what?), and you are announcing to the entire Pokemon community that you stink so badly at this game you have to donk everyone just to win.....AT A BATTLE ROAD. Yeah, feel the pride in yourself? I certainly wouldn't. Throw your Victory Medals in the bin Sabldonk players. Because you earned them by donking your opponents. You might as well have cheated. Congratulations.

If you would actually read the reason to playing Sabledonk, you would see that it isn't to win, but to prove a point. Everyone is playing it because they want a better format for Nationals and Worlds which are far more important than a Battle Roads.
