BRING YOUR extra Cards to SELL at Nats!!

...when the dealer cut me off "where are your holos and exs?" I pulled out my extras and passed them over. He gave them a cursory look and said "$70 for everything. Take it or leave it."
That was like my experience with them. I gave them the c/ucs and they wouldn't take them until I insisted that the holos and reverses get sold with the c/ucs or there'd be no deal. He tried telling me that 200 c/ucs were only 0.45, but at .02 per card it should have been $4.00 . Had I known another dealer was doing the same offer, I would have gone to the other booth.

I had a talk with the guy on Wednesday when we got in, and he hadnt had any sleep, and probably didn't into Thursday, so catching up on that sleep missed would have been hard, and thus probably caused his "uptight"ness that everyone was sensing.
The dealer's hall closed at 5-6pm on Wednesday-Saturday, right? And didn't open until 10am? If they'd gone to sleep even 4 hours after close, they'd get a full 8 hours sleep if they woke up at 6am and more if they slept til 8am. :nonono:

The GG guy was a huge jerk and gave me much less for my cards than what was outlined in this thread. Not to mention all the cursing by the GG vendors. I was not impressed, to say the least.

Hi Everyone-

First and Foremost -- We just wanted to thank everyone who came out and supported us at Origins or sold us cards.. WE REALLY APPRECIATE IT.

We also wanted to apologize to those of you who we were "uptight" with.. We ran into MANY problems before the show
even started and I guess it showed through. Not only were we short staffed due to the fact that we were suppose to have 2 more employees there to help with the setup, and buying, but it also took us 14 hours to get there due to trailer issues... We are not trying to make excuses for our shortness, etc, we just wanted to let you guys know that we had problems upon problems that arose along with almost no sleep throughout the whole show and we are SORRY that we let it show.

Again, we do appreciate your support and hit a total of 374,000 commons, and 48,000 reverse holo's - we have yet to count the rares and EX's. To those who believe they were shorted, please email brandon@gatheringground so we can discuss your situation on an individual basis and figure out a way to rectify the situation if needed.

We also want to thank VINCE for putting the word out to the Pokemon community and letting them know we were wanting to buy these cards. YOU ARE AWESOME.

THANKS AGAIN TO EVERYONE!

Before Nationals, it didn't seem like my place to say anything without firsthand knowledge of this card shop. Meganium45 (Vince) seemed sincere -- and I'm sure he meant well by passing on this information.

There are many card dealers, scattered all across the nation, who offer very similar prices. Gathering Ground's wholesale buying prices are merely "average". This was NOT a great deal -- even if they had paid the full amount promised.

Just so everyone's aware, this is a very common practice. These dealers dump "grab bags" on the internet (usually Ebay) -- packaging 100 common/uncommons that sell for $5.00 or more. And of course, they make a little extra with the shipping and handling.

Y'know what's even worse than little kids getting scammed and cussed at? ... go to GatheringGround.com. He makes darn good money off these singles!

It's all part of the game. Knowing what your stuff's worth is critical when you're playing a "collectible card game".

The GG IMO: rip-off. A stack of holos was worth $15 there, I went to another booth and got $84 for them.:nonono:

thanks GG!

I just wanted to say I had a good experience selling to these guys. It has been a long time since a dealer was interested in buying my "junk" cards and I got a lot of extra money to spend at the show. For those of you who say they didn't offer enough my point is it's just that -- an offer. You can always say no. I am just glad that they got some hype started about buying this stuff and it in turn made other dealers start buying it too. Like I said, I got what I consider good money for my cards and it was a smooth, easy, process. I don't care what they have them listed for on their site. It will probably sit on them for a long time and it might take years to sell them. It's important for these dealers to make money to stay in business. I see people here in PA come and go everyday. I always say you should shop around before making a decision of who to sell your cards to.

It's good to see someone rejuvenating the Pokemon market!

I am Awesome-O....

I am just glad the GG started the "OMG, we have to buy Pokemon Cards" attitude through the whole show.

You walk in to start, noone offering to buy Pokemon.

Everyone hears what the GG is doing, and all the cards people are bringing in...everyone suddenly is buying Pokemon!

They have always been cool to me on the prices they offer. That is what they pay. Hey, even I have given them a lot where J or B looks at me and says...a little rough on the commons, eh? At which point we are down from 2 cents.

A deal is just that. They offer, you accept.

hey, did they really just give you a contact to make your situation right with them?

A dealer who steps into this criticism?

Man, sounds like they care about what they are doing, and weren't just doing it for a one shot hit!

Vince

$70 for about 350 cards I'm never going to use? I'm kool with that, man! Note: I did sell some Pokemon-ex and Holos as well.

I sold mine first thing Thursday morning and got exactly what I expected, $160 for a bunch of cards that were sitting in shoe boxes. Yeah it took time to count them out, but what else am I going to do with tons of old commons? $.02/ea added up quick! Thanks for the heads to bring the cards and for buying them.

I got some nice bucks for my old stuff, so I can't complain at all. Commons/Uncommons/Reverse added up quickly, and the Ex's I had totaled to $365. *PUMPS FIST*

I brought my entire old collection after hearing about this. While I was waiting for the event hall to open, a dealer from another store saw the collection and told us to come by his booth; he was offering a full 50% more than GG for every type of card. I ended up selling my collection for about $1,400. The representative for that booth actively sought me out first thing, before the dealer hall had even opened, to inquire about my pokemon stuff, so I think it's erroneous to suggest that Gathering Ground started the dealer buying spree on cards. I have a feeling that the folks I sold to were influenced by the same factors that caused GG to offer the deal they did.
