Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

E3 Discussion Thread

Only that such a game exists. There will be a new SSB for both 3DS and for WiiU. That's the extent of the announcement.

here's hoping it's not like what happened last time.. where Nintendo announced that they were going to make Brawl.. without consulting the designer before hand. then again, it also lead to them footing the bill for an entirely new studio for him =p

Can't wait to see how long it'll take to beat this time around. (not counting trophies) Brawl actually had a good story (as far as fighting games go) so a new brawl in HD!?!!! I'm down.

they showed a different zelda (then again they did the same thing when they announced Gamecube) that looked really good, but didn't actually mention it. I wonder if the new console will render the games in a higher resolution?

I've played Twilight princess on an emulator and forced a higher res, and it looked ALOT better.

what will make Vita successful is pick up and play games. aside from Pokemon, most portable games are not meant to be sit down and play for hours kind of games. that's what consoles are for.. Mario Kart is a great example of that. OoT is a good example of what shouldn't be put on a handheld, but it's forgiven because it's an amazing game.

Starfox revamp.. amazing. I will definitely be saying "Do a barrel roll fox!" alot to my friends. =)

I'll speculate on the price of Wii-U when I've got the technical details for the system.

The controller by itself will probably retail for $50, minimum.

I'd wager $60 personally, that controller has to be packing a lot more tech than current basic things like Xbox and PS3 ones, and $60 was the price those controllers were at for quite a while before dropping what, $5 or so? That or your guess sounds about right as well, Wiimotes were around that as well weren't they at release? Wonder if they're gonna bundle a sports game with it as well this time around...

But I mean, think of all the applications a tablet on your controller will give you; all of a sudden don't have to cower behind picking what plays you want to make in Madden with your buddy next to you spying and trying to figure out which of 4 selections you made for example. That alone is a pretty big plus imo...

So yeah, to me Nintendo easily blew out Sony with the Wii U announcement, I mean people already had a basic idea of what the Sony NGP/Vita would encompass, but Wii U being a home console and such, is much bigger news. The controller...well, I thought it looked kinda clunky and big, but we'll see, Nintendo has made some of the best controllers (sans NES and Nintendo-itis) out there. I'm guessing retail price for the console will likely be in the $250-$300 range, you can't really go any higher imo because then the PS3 and Xbox become just as cheap, and odds are that they'd still beat out the Wii U in specs if the past has much to say about it; Nintendo hasn't been ahead in the tech war since what, the N64? And even then Sony PS was better due to the disc format.

My only hope is that they aren't stingy with colors and release the Wii U in something other than a plain color like white; then again, based on how long it took to get the Wii in Black and Red, that's a fanciful dream likely...

the controller's specs aren't going to push the cost up that much.. it's going to have an accelerometer, gyroscope, speakers (all of which the new standard wiimotes have) a VGA (assuming) camera on it, and buttons. the connection is probably Blutooth 3.0, since that's a hybrid of blutooth 2.0 and WiFi, and Blutooth 3.0 has the badwidth to handle multiple connections like that.

if anyone can barter the price down to make a controller like that, sell it for $70, and still make like $10 profit off it. they're hustlers like that. ;)

and, there have been specs that have leaked from wii U, and it will have higher graphic capabilities than the PS3. it reportedly has a combination of CPU and GPU based off of what's in the 360 and PS3, but at higher clock ratings.

I'm glad it's not going to be as bulky as the pictures of a grey box that was floating around made it look like.

also, backwards compatibility = smash stack. if u know what I'm sayin'.

Well after finally watching the demo for that controller (dang internet)...all I can say is that if it can do even half the stuff shown, it will be the system to beat; best part of all, as Sony and Microsoft both stated they don't intend to release new consoles well into the 2010s, Nintendo can still follow the "rough" 5 year gaming console life cycle and remain at par with Sony and Microsoft whenever they decide to release something. At any rate, it looks like Nintendo is once again raising the bar...wonder how long till Xbox and Playstation have ripoff clones.

I can imagine them putting screens into their controllers like Nintendo seems to be doing. They did take avatars and motion game play into their systems after they realized that there were more people willing to drop money to just play a game that didn't require so many freakin' buttons.

In theory, I liked the concept of Kinect the most of the 3 motion control system, the concept of body tracking movements in-game and such were cool. However, the tech just isn't high enough to make it flawless unfortunately...not to mention the lack of any "killer app" games using it.

For practical use, the Move and Wiimote with the motion plus are both about par, both are still inaccurate at times so nothing is really flawless. For that matter, I still want my Star Wars lightsaber dueling...sigh...

I think Nintendo has pretty much "won" E3 at this point. Wii U is just so amazing (except the idiotic name :p ). It can do everything every other console can do, and tons more. I mean, almost any cross-platform game will now also be on the Wii U, but with possible Wii U exclusive features. This is completely ignoring just how promising the controller is in the first place for Wii U exclusive games. It's just so awesome.

Of course, Vita is great (again, save the dumb name), but Wii U just stole the show.

Oh, also, Skyward Sword look freakin' amazing. I love me some Zelda games.

I gotta say nintendo's performance was pretty sick and I have a lot to look forward to in the coming months...

Also, 3-d Links Awakening on 3 DS AND 3D trailers of games now downloadable via the marketplace? Yes please. And the year of Zelda is looking pretty epic...

Is it just me or does the remake of OoT for the 3ds make adult/teen link look...less adult like than what I remember in the N64 version? I mean, he looks more like tween Link instead to me now...might've just been bad angles, but even the one in sky-whatever sword seemed kinda tweenish.

@regis neo, yeah.. they did make him kinda tweenish.. just by removing some shading and making the clothes brighter. that alone.. made him look less experienced, therefore younger. kind of the opposite with the game Jet Force Gemini. they had to darken the game and characters to make it less kiddy.

bob: That was a remastered version of one of the fights in Twilight Princess. They showed the exact same thing on the floor, and based on the reports that I could find, it looked like you could choose between 3 or 4 cameras at various points to see the entire thing. The animation was superb, amirite?

As far as SSB, I'm pretty certain that it was the series designer and creator that announced it at the press conference. But all we know right now is that there will be SSB on both WiiU and 3DS. We know nothing else about the game.

Regis: I'd honestly be surprised if the console debuted that cheap. I'm thinking that $300 will be the floor of pricing, and I'm expecting $350-$400 for the system. It's got higher specs than the PS3, which is still selling for $300 at the minimum. Xbox is still $200 for the basic, and $300 for anything that anybody would actually want. WiiU is not competing with PS3 or X360. It's competing with PS4 and X720, both of which will launch at a minimum price of $400. Yes, I know that both Sony and M$ have stated that they're not going into next-gen for another few years. But I think they'll accelerate that timetable after Nintendo's announcement. They'll have to. Their entire enterprise is based on "mine is bigger than yours". If Nintendo has the best specs of the consoles, they cannot claim that anymore, and it will hurt their sales even more than they're already hurt. I'm expecting M$ to announce a new console at E3 2012, with it being playable at E3 2013 and available by Holiday 2013. Sony will be about a year behind that, at most. It'll be nice to watch the other guys playing catchup to Nintendo on console gaming for once...

I was watching the first 30 minutes or so of the Nintendo presentation at E3 this year, and they talked about Nintendo has been slumping on its sales for the Wii and the company has been losing insane amounts of money as a result of the lackluster sales in all of its major wii games. But, I hope that Nintendo has a huge success that is bound to happen with Wii U, and I may or may not get it once it comes to NJ. It depends on if Nintendo is going after its hardcore fan base more aggressively than the Wii fared.

It's a shame that Nintendo Wii-U doesn't play the GameCube games :(. Not that I play them. Oh well... at least it still plays the Wii games.

Most likely they will be downloadable, which means we have to pay for all of are GC games again. Yay...

sad face

Good thing I bought the Metroid Prime Trilogy then :D
But my best Prime 1 data is on Gamecube D=

Here's what the E3 did for me....

I'm typeing this post from my new 3DS. :D

Seriously,I wasn't all that interested in it, and was most likely going to not get it. However, after seeing the VERY strong game lineup it's getting, as well as them saying that they will have a lot of content for hardcore gamers, I gave in and got one. Yes, it's every bit as awesome as it looks. The built in content is amazing.
