Lets see, there's been a huge stink about the contents of GE. It has been a significant source of stress in the community in general. Speculation about the number of "good" cards that are (or are not) in the set has been going on for nearly a month.

All of this, and you decide to pull a prank, using one of the most hotly contested/desired cards that could be in the set, which players had full well resigned themselves to thinking wouldn't be. Then, to ice that cake, your hoax assigns a card number to it that would mean it would be insanely difficult to obtain.

Gee, why do you think anyone would possibly get upset about this?

It's akin to POP stating that Gym Challenges will be back next year, and then, two days later, saying "Psych!" And then acting like jerks because the community "couldn't take a joke."

There's a reason that POP doesn't do anything silly on April Fool's day. We respect our community too much. We understand that there are people that take their hobby seriously, and that building up hope only to smash it down at a later point for our own entertainment isn't just cruel; it's rude.

Are you seriously comparing the press releases of a COMPANY with a thumbnail inside a hidden directory of a FANSITE?

Seriously?

Obviously Blizzard won't post that they're going to start selling World Of Warcraft 2 tomorrow. Any WOW site, or any site at all, could, because their words aren't to be taken as the official press release. I really don't see how you can compare the two.

I wouldn't claim real press to be all clean and pure. Remember how the nation is more focused on what britney is doing than the thousands and thousands of homeless people and the millions of diseased people.

The "real press" has made mistakes too.

I agree with the general sentiment of these last few posts. As a journalist, I find it unethical to knowingly deceive so many people. Mike and Matt pretty much summed up my thoughts.

I also find post 90 extremely rude. That's real mature considering that this game wouldn't be what it is without Mike Liesik's help.

wow so many people have no sense of humor. im suprised.
it was just a joke that didnt even work.
come on people.
and he's right, it was pop that ruined these sets, not WMP's fake phione.
this country was founded on taking a joke, lets keep it like that.

Did you ever realize that this is just a game, and that there is much more to life than a blue piece of cardboard?

Your guys' seriousness is making me laugh. Seriously. Drew, your post made me laugh, and I've had a rough day, so thank you. :D

Wow, I would love to say somethings but I will hold myself back. I will say the following, I wasnt upset with the fake card. I was upset in the fact that you would do such a thing. It is the principal, I wouldnt like someone that gives out reliable info to lie about something. I dont care what it is. It isnt called for. Is phione in the GE set, I dont know, and you know I will find out in a few days, but lying about it by making a fake one isnt exactly the best way for people to respect you. You can laugh, but I know that I am in the majority of people thinking what you did was wrong. You could atleast just us what this suprise was that it needed a fake card to boost it up. I just dont have anything more to say to you. :nonono:

And like Prime said, the plan didn't even go through. Get over it. There are much more important things to worry about in life.

How very zen of you! People certainly have "more important things to worry about." However, that doesn't mean that they won't worry about their hobbies. I mean, you seemed to have gotten awfully worried about that time that someone "stole" your "exclusive" translations. That seems pretty minor compared to a great number of other things.

How noble! The thing is, I didn't "build up" anything since nothing happened.

No?

I planted a thumbnail of it in the Great Encounters scan directory last night, but no one saw it, so I IM'd its link to a few people, posted a link to it on our own forums (pretending to be a user who found it - I am sure this is where most people saw the link), and finally some people saw it and went around posting the link (ironically claiming they discovered it on their own, or "obtained it" exclusively - silly billies).

That seems to say that you posted it last night, in the hopes that buzz would start about it. And then, when that didn't happen, you sockpuppeted your own forums to hype it, and you sent IMs to people to hype it.

I'm sorry, but your post doesn't make any sense, given the post you made on your own forums...

Get over yourself. YOU guys destroyed everyone's hope by not even including Phione in the set in the first place, so I wouldn't even be talkin'.

Excellent debating skills. Deflect from the point at hand by pointing out the shortcomings in another...

It's like, if you want to make yourself look good in front of others, you bash someone so it shows you are good at "arguing."

Pot, meet kettle...

There was someone who once linked a kid to an inappropriate site that was masked with OP's URL. They were banned. WPM was GOING to link/show us all a fake image and report it like it really existed. The only difference is his site is a PUBLIC website that ANYBODY can view. He is also reporting "news", or so he claims. If you are reporting news, you SHOULD be following the rules that go along with being a Journalist. Joke or not, you owe everyone an apology.

Lol, WPM likes pranks. Hey WPM, me and a friend got a prank we've been dying to pull. It'll be a real barrel of laughs, I promise.

To play devil's advocate, I will bring up one thing that WPM said that interested me.

WPM is right, on some level, that because PUI/POP never releases the information about what is in the set, they did give birth to the "stink" that M_Liesik speaks of. If POP/PUI would have posted a simple checklist for the set, or told what cards would NOT be in the set, this whole problem would not have happened in the first place.

I'm not saying that WPM should not be blamed for what he did (and did not), but POP/PUI aided this problem by not providing the community with information in the first place.

PUI/POP, please don't hate me.

What a funny coincidence, I'm laughing too!

You're picking a fight with Mike Liesik because he explained to you why people are upset? You can't just take responsibility and apologize to the people who didn't find this funny? Sorry, but that sounds like a lack of class to me.

It's not that we don't have a sense of humor or that we take Pokemon too seriously. How would this be any different if it was fake information about sports? How does someone taking offense to false information indicate a lack of humor?

It doesn't.

Prime, yes, journalism makes mistakes, but they're rarely intentional.

I agree 100% with everything Pokemom has said.

seriously: if you want 'beach considered as a credible, legitimate 'news' site for pokemon, why would you even consider doing something like this? just to stir the pot and see how much you can disrupt the community?

how much sense does that make? you want to be known for posting legitimate news first, but on the other hand am saying 'get over it, can't you take a joke?' to the very people who TOOK YOUR NEWS AT FACE VALUE. and you can't see WHY those who **trusted you as a source of news** are PO'd?

Well, you can't really blame PUI/POP for not releasing the contents of a set that isn't released yet. No one would expect them to do so. Indicating that he knew something when it was obviously false is not right.

POP/PUI has no obligation to report those types of things, but why shouldn't Pokebeach have an obligation to report their news with accuracy?

Back to back posts merged. The following information has been added:

Yep. I'm in a chat with about 20 other people right now and just about all of them have lost respect and/or trust over this, and the past week in general.

I'm not trying to cover for WPM, or make what he did (and didn't) sound any better. I was just addressing one thing I've had problems with in the past. I've always felt there were better ways to tell the community about the set without spoiling the set than what POP/PUI usually does. POP/PUI knew of the "stink" that M_Liesik posted about. Why didn't they try to calm it down a little by giving the community a little information about what wouldn't be in the set?

Prime: POP, like many other gaming companies, feel that releasing information about a set, contents or not contents, is detrimental to the sales of said set. I guess they feel that the information would put the company at risk, so they won't release the info unless they deem it necessary, like if someone puts out obviously fake info meant to mislead the community.

OKAY! Water Pokemon Master posted tons of scans for GE, with an eye infection, and now his laptop crashed, and all you guys can say is that you've lost all trust in Pokebeach? All he did was post a picture of Phione! And on PokeBeach, he even said it was fake!

he kinda said it was a fake after people found it....

also, i dont agree with what WPM did at all.
i was so excited to see a scan of phione....and then to hear it was all part of someone's giggles!
shame on you WPM..shame on you.

maybe because POP is bound to decisions perhaps made by departments like brand or marketing, whose first concern is not OP? so they are limited in what they _can_ say 'early'?

at least, that's what i'd guess...

Great post Matt!
Except for the "suck up" at the end.:wink:

PUI/POP is Patient Zero, so the honorable thing to do is to at least release the setlist to close this case once and for all and the stress you are worried about will disappear!. I challenge you..............
