Format Change for Next Year - Possible Change for Nats and Worlds!

The post says it would be HGSS-on starting July 1st...

Amazing how people can't read the first post correctly but jump on to posting so quickly...

No, it says if they deem it necessary, they will rotate to HS-on July 1st. Otherwise, they will rotate to HS-on on September 1st.

The question is no longer if we rotate to HS-on, but when.

I'm curious as to how exactly they would like us to prove its a bad format. Are the constant threads ranting against it not enough?

There were constant threads about how Gengar Prime would ruin the format.

We all know how that ended.

I think TPCi just wants to see the proof in the pudding before making any first-in-the-history-of-the-game decisions. (ie. before sept. format rotation)

I've already been in touch with international TOs and distributors over the last few weeks and have suggested that they not allow BW cards or rules in their Nationals events.

Will this have to made as a group decision or is it at the discretion of each Nats organiser for their respective country?

Very good news, now back to the drawing board. Personally I'll most likely be testing my Nats deck at BRs, don't really care if I get Sableye donked at BRs. I'm not winning a trip to Worlds via ranking, and BRs points/prizes are so low it they are just testing tournaments for me. It'll also be helpful in getting rid of older sets.

Yes yes I read that. But the thing that is sorta confusing for me is this

The thing I don't see is, will they rotate just some out for Nats? Or all up to HGSS?

The second paragraph right below what you bolded replies to your very own question.

But then it just seems a bit strange to me that they include the older sets part instead of just saying it outright. Oh well, I will just prepare for HGSS-on either way.

I'm curious as to how exactly they would like us to prove its a bad format. Are the constant threads ranting against it not enough? Have we failed to speak up against it in proper proportion? Or do they actually advocate a battle roads season where everyone is encouraged to play sabledonk? If so what is the motivation to even attend the event? The complaint remains The same from the rotationless nats threads, losing points to the donk and attending an extremly boring event has no appeal to a large base of players. What more exactly do we have to do to prove this. I say quit lollygagging and flipflopping and just institute the changes now.

Warning! This post contains lots of speculation. The contents may or may not reflect reality.

It's easy from a player standpoint to say this. We play the game on a regular basis and don't have to be told that the format will damage a healthy format. But we're not running the show. There are lots of other people who have stakes in the production and sales of the product. OP is just one small facet of a large company. Unless those other players went out tomorrow and in a sudden moment of brilliance said that OP would be able to make decisions on their own regarding all aspects of competitive play, it stands to reason that any big change (and an early rotation is a huge change) would have to go through committee.

The way it is, this early rotation sounds on the outside to be a huge compromise. It sounds like OP brought this to the board meeting, explained why this is a good idea, listed a couple of different ways of handling the problems inherent in having the old cards in the new sets and then listed solutions until a consensus was reached. I'm also betting that the powers that be (some of which may not even play the game) said "we're willing to entertain this... idea, but we need to see proof that what you're saying about the game is true. You sound a bit like chicken little right now, but if you were able to show us proof, we would agree." P!P could show them the J-Wittz video that describes the problem, but you do have to admit that while he presents a good argument, it's still theory, not two players sitting down to a game, but a simulation of what could (and likely will) happen. However, the reports from Battle Roads? That a big enough sampling to sway anyone.

tl;dr Bigwigs want proof before they'll see that there's a problem with leaving the format as it is. Battle Roads is a large enough sample to prove there's a problem.

Really, its gonna take you all of battle roads to see that the format is bad? You guys shouold have seen what was gonna happen way before the new rules came out and BRs are gonna be a disaster because of it.
Some people like myself need to do good at BRs to get rating invites but thats impossible considering what the format will be.
At least nats/worlds wont suck as much, or nats will because they are gonna have a week or 2 to make decks for a new format.

No, it says if they deem it necessary, they will rotate to HS-on July 1st. Otherwise, they will rotate to HS-on on September 1st.

The question is no longer if we rotate to HS-on, but when.
They will rotate _to_ HS-On or they will rotate up to a point that _includes_ HS-On, such as RR-On?

I reckon that they won't rotate before BRs cos it would be very confusing for the new/casual/very young players that go to them

People going to nats and worlds should be able to cope.

Once again, brilliant way of dealing with this situation. I'm really impressed by the way this situation has been handled, as opposed to the debacle that seemed to be coming.
Thanks. :thumb:
It's worth noting that our silence on a topic does not mean we are sitting around twiddling our thumbs. We can't always talk about what we are working on, but we are always keeping an eye on things and doing everything we can to keep the play environment healthy. In this case we have been watching this issue and working internally to get things in order to deal with it the best way we could for some time.

Wow guys! Really on the ball as always! This is why I love this game so much... great gameplay and organizers who watch numbers and really care about players.

My only question is "Where is the bar?" What are you guys watching? Is it top 4 results for each division? Moreover, what is the number you are looking for? Is it just if too many sabledonk are winning, then ban, or do you guys have numbers to look for? What % of decks have to be sabledonk to convince you all that it is worth rotating?

Also, part of the problem created by this is that it rewards players for playing the problem. As shown by Box's sig, players are now rewarded for playing with "the enemy deck" to help create a clean nationals. Obviously, this is a small sacrifice when looking at nats, but it will skew the data quite a bit. I have already talked to many people who I know would never normally play sabledonk... but they are now because of this thread. Just sayin' ;D
Well the reason I wont be discussing the data we intend to evaluate is precisely due to the skewed data issue you bring up.

I would like to join the masses pleased with this change, with one caveat.

While I look forward to the day where the world can play HGSS-On in peace, without fear of persecution from Sabeleye, I'm not quite sure how I feel about the Nats format being untested. It will turn the most competitive tournament of the year into a testing grounds. While I applaud players who are able to throw together new decks on a moments notice, I have always felt that Nats is the place where the folks who have stuck to their guns, tested the field, practiced, and worked hard all season should be doing well. A rotation a few days prior to the event, without even as brief a testing period as BR's would provide, seems to be against that spirit, and is unfair to players who may not be quite as adaptable as others, but have put in a year of hard work to make up for it.

That being said, there's no perfect solution here, and this is a damn good one and a good call overall.

So the only way to show POP that something is overpowered is to play the most luck based deck in one of the most luck based formats and then maybe they will notice.
Im sorry but it shows really stupidity that it will take that much for them to notice they made a bad decision.

This is AWESOME!! Now everyone's going to be playing Serperior/Reuniclus Tank for Nationals. Get your Reshiram/Emboar Ready!! Also, speed Zekrom is probably going to be big, as well as Jumpluff. In my opinion, these will be the big decks out there. Better sell your Uxie Lv.X and Luxray GL Lv.X well they're still worth something!!
