Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Increased PM Space

I always found it hilarious that on pokebeach, a site where I get less trading activity, I have an infinite amount of pm space. Here I have to constantly delete everything I do with more activity. I was up to 40 pms today and I am only like on a 5th trade and a couple of buys. And I never negotiate anything in pms.

ha, your PM put me at 100%

Why would you have that many PMs with so few trades? PMs are for exchanging of addresses, not for making trading details.

And it takes between 3 and 5 PMs to get that information transmitted and confirmed, plus the send confirmation, plus the receive and resend confirmation, plus whatever gets automatically saved in "Sent PMs". If you're engaging in any sort of trading at all, your PM box is going to fill up. Quickly. And Arceus help you if you want to talk to anybody else in the interim.

And there is a setting in your user options to turn off the auto save for sent PM's.

Now, I know that most if not all traders want that copy of what was sent for verification purposes, but after 3 or 4 of the same info going back and forth, you could keep the most recent and delete the rest...

That can get a bit long, and some people don't quote in their replies. Plus you're still doing the dance of running through messages and deleting them as soon as new ones come in.

Since we're back to explaining how to cope with the status quo, can we assume this request has been denied?

I hope not!
Though 100 imo is a tad much...

Maybe they'll impliment a yearly thing...
Every year you've been on the gym, they give you 25 more pm space!
That is a nice idea!

I wouldn't know, have you heard something to that effect from the Owners of this site?

I have been speaking as a member, albeit one with technical knowledge of this site, but as a member. I do not speak for the Owners of this site.

I don't even know who owns the site. No response to the post in TCH, and only mods posting here, so that's all I've got to go on.

You are the Member Services Administrator of the Pokegym. When you speak on an official Pokegym subject like this, it is assumed that you have done so after conferring with the Owners. When you are proposing workarounds, it is assumed that you have already spoken with the Owners, and the proposal has been rejected.

This is one of the reasons I'm kinda glad I'm not a Front Page Editor anymore. My word no longer speaks for the Gym.

I PM'd Bulbasnore and was ignored.

Ryan,

You ever heard what happens when you assume???

Agreed. That is why I like the quoting option...

Example...

This is how I store most of my trades...
I've never had an issue.

I really get the same feeling from these that I got from E_D's responses about downloading PMs: you're giving users workarounds for something that they don't necessarily need a workaround for, when the direct solution seems so much easier for both parties.

I get that we aren't actually talking to the people who can make this change, but I just want to point out that this doesn't really answer the overall voice that says "We want more PM space!" What if I just like to be able to look through conversations I've had with people in the past? Why should I have to make a choice about what's important, or whether or not I want to download something that I know I'll never find again/look at since it's not actually on the site?

I think I just kind of approach this problem from a different perspective. Eeveelover, since you know some of the technical details for PokeGym's operation, can you give us some insight on why this change might not be trivial to implement?

Why would you have that many PMs with so few trades? PMs are for exchanging of addresses, not for making trading details.

pm 1: email saying are these the details, can we confirm addresses (after all, there could still be a misunderstanding at that point)
pm 2: yes true, sometimes they do not leave the address right then so that adds a potential extra pm (even more potential extras, they decide they need to redo part of the trade and you have to go back to the thread)
pm 3: my address
pm 4: they might say they shipped it (probably half the time)
pm 5: every time: I say I received it so that they do not have to worry, and then leave feedback
pm 6: when you say you received it, they usually say glad to hear it et cetera
pm 7: (at least half the time) a pm to say they received it

it adds up fast, and that is without any complications (I did not count the potential extras after all), and aborted trades are also always a possibility

about half the time a user fails to reply with the original message train, it gets even harder to manage the overall details of the trade

when I have to go and figure out what to delete before enough trades have completed for me to save the space, I do it, but it should not be something anyone ever has to consider...if there is some good reason not to allow for extra space, all right, but nobody is really complaining without due cause, I mean on a normal forum 50 pms is like what you get punished with for infractions

Unless they are keeping it a secret and want to unveil their decision later, I get the feeling it is dead. We have very little, if any at all, feedback from anyone in the position to make this a possibility. It just doesnt seem like its a big enough issue for them to consider seriously. But, we can always wait and see if they really are taking this seriously and its just taking a while to get us an appropriate response.

A magic doubling all around, I see. It's a nice gesture, hopefully people will appreciate the change and not whine about how it needs to be more again.
