Infraction...injustice.

I can think of one way the profanity filter could fail; however, it looks like this isn't the case. I think you would've had better luck contacting the mods in private, rather than making this issue public.

(in case anyone's wondering, it involves improper words as part of the spelling of other words)

Friend or not, if a moderator thought you broke the rules in any way, it is their job to deal with it. Being a mod's friend is not a free pass. We have pretty much all received infractions, it is very difficult to not receive infractions. Heck, even I've received a few.

As for the filter, there is nothing we can do about it. I messaged a friend of mine on here once and it starred out a word that was absolutely unnecesarry to filter. You never know what it will view as a profanity.

That brings me to my next point. It starred out the whole word instead of just a couple of the letters. Why would it have starred out only part of the word, leaving a hint as to what you said? I'm not accusing you, I genuinely want an answer from someone who knows the system. I want to help get to the bottom of this in any way I can, and find out what really happened.

I didn't want a free pass, I just didn't want everybody to think I used the f word ending in ed or get such a big penalty unjustly.

Vablakes@ that is very interesting what you're saying. Is it unusual that they didn't block out the whole word and left a d on the end? Please let me know if you find out anything about that;)

Oh, I definitly believe that you didn't say that. I have read a lot of your posts, and it didn't seem like you

Also, I didn't mean to sound harsh with the "Free pass" thing. I just wanted to make the point that friend or foe, you can't be mad at a mod for doing their job. I don't let any infractions ruin my view of a mod. I look at it like this: if you had a friend that was a judge and you commited a crime and he sentenced you to pay a fine, you couldn't be mad at them, could you? They were just doing their job, showing no bias towards friends.

Gary: No one things you wrote a word that started out with F.
You wrote *****d, which is a verb based on the word *****.
Now, that will be starred out, so here's a definition that was posted earlier in the thread, that I had though you read and understood.
Please read it now. It clearly states what word you wrote that caused the issue.

Given the context of the sentence the infraction occurred in...one referring to how pokemon was selling all types of branded products...it's pretty clear that the filtered word is one of two possible ones, both having to do with selling one's own or someone else's "services". And yes, those are both in the forum filters...

Ill bet there's not a single person who can decipher the word based on that but its ok. It was a harmless word if kept in the context intended. Certainly not worthy of a near suspension.

it was pretty clear to ME what it was, given the context...

Again, I doubt anybody else would think that but they would think it was the f word with ed at the end. That was my concern along with nearly being suspended for totally nothing. It was sort of like getting 2-10 in prison for THINKING about driving drunk. This punishment didn't fit the crime...even though there was no crime at all.

I'm pretty sure that most everybody can figure out your "word". It's either a past tense word for a show about fixing up cars hosted by Exibit, or a slang phrase for when you sell something ridiculously cheap. And you know the funny thing... Nobody would have even known about your infraction if YOU hadn't made such a spectacle out of it. Just some food for thought.

The best advice would be to accept that you messed up and move on. The way you personally take certain words is not necessarily the same way the rest of the world takes them. REMEMBER THAT YOU ARE POSTING ON A KID FRIENDLY SITE. Not an adult site. Not even a teen site. One that's a safe place for even the youngest of children to use. Would Barney the dinosaur say on his show what you typed? If you can't answer that question with a yes, you probably shouldn't post it here.

Well this proves my point. Not even waynegg has a clue lol. He'd have thought the same thing as the 10 year olds after what the buffer did to my word and that was an insult.

I read somewhere in this topic that you are a product of the 50s or 60s era, right?

So it makes sense that you don't realize that no one can take your word for it in the internet. You are in an environment where anyone, can say anything, at any time, and right now there's no way to provide any evidence or proof that the word was filtered inappropriately.

People are going off of what they know. A name they don't recognize got an infraction and had a uniquely overblown reaction to it, compared to most people who receive infractions. We don't know who you are or anything really about you, so when it comes down to who is right and who is wrong, the default is to trust the system.

We might be more sympathetic if there were actual consequences to the infraction, but trust me, the duration of this thread has hurt your reputation far more than 8 infraction points ever could.

How about we all close this thread and let everything pass. What's done is done.. By the looks at it, the infraction will not be reversed.

This thread has become more negative everyday.

No more put downs!

I understand Gary that you feel that a personal part of yourself was in your opinion "attacked" on your personal view of how you project yourself as to whom you believe to be. Taken out of context from your wording from your intentions- it did not reflect your true intentions. It happens. To the best of us.

Another point of view on this:

I do not know you personally, all I have to go on is how you present yourself here on this site. Over time, I can form some sort of charaturistics and personallity based on how you post and what you state by how you word things. At first glance, I might not fully know what you are saying at times. This is normal, until after some time has gone by to get to know you better.

Is it possible that the mod that had given you the infraction is not "shocked" that you had posted something, since him knowing you personally that right off that he might be slightly upset himself that he did have to enforce a rule upon you? What if he did not like the fact that he needed to give you the infraction due to the personal friendship with you?

There are fine lines as to what crosses those lines. Myself being a mod- I do need to sepporate "personal" from "stranger" to do a job I volunteer my time to doing things that keep this site flowing smoothly for everyone. Myself included. If I get out of line, post something offensive, break a rule- whatever- there is a chain of "command" and steps to correct my behavior. I encourage any member who has an issue with me to take it up to my "higher up's". How else can I continue to working towards being a better mod if no one tells me what I am doing wrong?

Also to, if you encounter a problem with a member, you choose a personal friend mod to handle this issue to resolve it. That mod should not be more "harsh" on that member just because you are a personal friend.

Over all, lines need to be drawn. Say you work for a company 25 years, and then you got fired for a mistake. Unless the company is heartless, the company has a great loss on their hands if you were a reputable person. But rules are rules. It is life in general. And in general, rules are supposed to be created that is in the best interest of the majority.

I do commend you and standing your grounds on how you view yourself on how you belive your demeaner to be as to how you present yourself on this site. But it could have been handled a little bit better. You reacted normal as well- frustration gets the best of us all.
Granted, there are members with no infractions, and some with many. But everyone is treated the same to the best of abilities regardless of personal friendships.
I could know a person for 50 years- it does not mean that in year 51 they don't steal all of my video games. It happens. (an example there is all.

I do belive that with your history (you have been here longer then me) of contnuing to be a good contributor/poster on here that you will have no problems remaining the same person.
There are speed bumps in life, we all hit them. Some speedbumps dent your car, which is inevitable. Sure, you can get it repaired, but you have to take it in to get repaired. Just like taking a simple infraction- it will repair itself over time if you take it in and accept those repairs.

The only thing we all are perfect at is being imperfect. Learning from mistakes regardless of the situation. Since the member has already posted that a mod made a mistake with giving them an infraction:
I made that mistake. Human error with having to many tabs open and selecting the wrong tab to continue to try and do my duty. I appologised, and will again do it publicly right now. Sorry.
I do not think of that member any less, but I am still working on getting the infraction system down so as to not make that mistake again in the future. I accepted that the member was upset- but I do hope that member accepts that I am human and error while trying to do a job is all.
That infraction was reversed- and it still bothers me that I goofed so bad towards that member. But at least in the notes on the infraction being reversed- current and future mods can see it was a mistake and why. But we need to keep track of things so we can be certain of how to continue to be fair across the board to all the members.

Thanks for reading, and really know that we all could use a deep breath every now and then in order to continue to be the best that we all are in trying to have a community that has something in common to share and enjoy just being human with unintentional errors at times on either side of the table.

Trust the system ;). That's how it was in Vietnam and probably also in Nazi Germany. I'd rather trust the people and judge them on an individual basis.
Plus you say both my reputation is harmed AND you say you don't know who I am?:confused::confused: lol

VERY well said Benzo. You seem to be a young man with great patience, intellect, and insight. They are lucky to have you...and because of you I will drop this now. Good job:thumb:

I feel like I should point out, if I hadn't infracted you, there would be more chance of people thinking you said the word starting with F.

Part of me giving the infraction includes editing the post to remove the word that warranted the infraction. If you check now, you will see that the post says "sold out".

If I hadn't infracted, it would still have *****d. No-one can see your infractions. No-one can see what posts used to be. No-one would have known about this if you hadn't brought it up.
