Lost world + Gengar Viability

They'll both be tier 1 imo, but all the current tier 1 decks will still give the lostgar strategy a run for its money. I personally would just go the speed lostgar route and take the horrendous matchup against vilegar while every other non-trainer lock deck eats dust.

Have you tested matchups? I was just wondering because you are one of the very few to have brought up the lostgar vilegar matchup. Based on descriptions of lostgar on pokegym, it doesn't seem to me that vilegar would give it that hard of a matchup.

Lol what description? And what exactly is "lostgar?" We know it'll have the following cards for certain.

Gengar prime (and by that token it'll have some gastly and haunter too)
Twins
Lost World
Psychic energy

Everything else is pretty much up to player discretion. You can set-up lost gar just like any other stage 2 deck sets up. You can use Spiritomb and possibly/probably Vileplume or you can go Turbo and use pokedex, pokedrawer, etc.

The turbo deck, like all turbo decks, has huge problems against trainer lock. This is the lostgar deck that I emphasized would have problems against Vilegar as it would (probably) be eating Poltergeist every turn for lols damage and no fear of fainting spell from the vilegar player.

PS. Yeah it was mostly theorymon. Pretty hard to test matches when none of the lost world cards have been released (lol what if lost world had some stupid condition added on to it like you had to be ahead on prizes to play it )

What description? Have you been on pokegym lately? lol every other thread is about lostgar written by lostgar fanatics.

All I'm saying is that hardly anyone is even talking seriously about vilegar anymore, let alone its matchup with lostgar. It just seems like people are already starting to forget about it or at least discount it.

But you've got some good points - I can see where you're coming from.

IT IS ALL THEORYMON!

IT IS ALL THEORYMON!

And that's why I love/hate pokegym so much :mad::smile:

Can't wait for pre-release so we can put a lot (but not all) of the theorymon to rest. Someone will break the deck almost immediately as its probably the least complicated process ever in pokemon to win games:

1.) Get a Gengar Prime with at least one (or more) psychic energy into the active position
2.) Use Hurl Into Darkness over and over and over again until 6 pokemon are in lost zone
2a.)If no pokemon are in opponents hand, play Seeker or Spiritomb TM on the following turn
3.) Play Lost World stadium
3a.) If under Stadium lock, use one of the 1298449806 options you have available to you so opponent doesn't put you under stadium lock the following turn.
4.) Declare yourself the winner (literally )

Just make it consistent and BAM, tier 1 deck :psychic:

True, but in pokemon tcg, are one-sided strategies generally seen as good or bad? Answer: bad Reason: easy to counter. The problem, however, in this reasoning is that this particular strategy is one of the strangest ever in pokemon history. You win the game, every game without taking a single prize or doing even 10 damage ever. (I know there will be many games that prove to be exceptions - I'm just making a point). That's what makes this problem so tricky. I predict, however, that if lostgar does become the BDIF, someone will find a creative way to counter it.

There are two ways to run lostgar imo.

-The good old vilegar route that prevents speed and sp decks from taking 6 prizes before you even have a chance to say "lost zone"

-The speed lostgar decks that ironcially have an awful matchups against the vilegar (and trainer lock in general) decks, lol

Thanks for testing the vilegar matchup, now i can safely play vilegar for states.. whew.

Anyway, what do you guys think about mismagius PL?
Good tech card against lostgar?

^ are you wondering about the amnesia-type attack? Honestly, I don't think it's viable. Maybe, in some situations, you could use a quicker version like mime jr to stall for a turn, but a stage one line just isn't worth it for the 30 damage. It's just less likely that you'll have it when you want it most.

VileGar v. LostGar(speed) is a close matchup, it's similar to how sablelock operates

1). If vilegar gets T1 Tomb OR T1 Plume it is difficult

2). If vilegar doesn't, VileGar loses plain and simple. Also mew prime helps v. Vilegar too.
