I strongly suggest a moderator LOCK THIS THREAD! Many people's posts are moving into the legal area of slander, and a sharp lawyer could have a field day in here. Everyone has had a chance to "tell their story." Now that you're beginning to upload photos, you're all really moving toward some serious legal problems.
Just my two cents and the hope that Pokemon OP can't get any worse ... :frown:
 
That's why this should not have been posted here... It's just going to turn nasty and reflect badly on both sides...
 
Yeah, a lawyer going after college kids? Here, take my beer money! I'd love to see how fast the judge throws this one out, that is if you can find a lawyer stupid enough to take the case!

Umm, just so we're clear on this: large law firms =do= go after mere "college kids" and their parents (and their parents' homes, cars, bank accounts, etc.). For an example, see what the RIAA (music industry) has done to a few unfortunate college kids who did massive MP3 trading via Napster and Grokster (now "legal" software). As long as the "kids" are dependants, parents are culpable. (Google the Washington Post article from 13 April 2005, "Music Industry Sues Hundreds Of File Sharers At Colleges.").

I'm also thinking of the PokeGym here ... which is acting as the forum for this flame war, search for truth, whatever. Better safe than sorry, IMHO. We've already nearly lost the 'Gym a couple times in the past.
 
flame war? no sir, this isn't insults going back and forth. this is someone who has been banned without a reason and the attempt to clear his name publically.
 
The RIAA is different; they typically offer a cheap settlement out of court and also do it as a deterrant from others pirating their media. This is totally different than an isolated incident of "slander" on a message board. Absoutely not apples-to-apples.

Furthermore, it isn't slander if its the truth. There is a TO who obviously has a vendetta against Martin and will do anything, lie or otherwise, to get him banned. Looks like PUI, who rightfully should put their faith in TOs, got duped by a bad egg. Its too bad.
 
Yeah yeah, and for the sake of the sanity of this board. Let's stop fueling the flames. The topic did what it had to do and is going to be read by POP. No further needs to add any replies now . Sorry for stirring something up here, let's lock this and see what happens tomarrow. Thanks for the replies.

I'd laugh if nick schutte's mom's letter was really just a ploy to frame martin and save her kid. No one seems to have considered that. Your son gets banned for something he was caught on security camera doing. He gets a 10 year ban for it, naturally you're going to want to save some face, best way is to point a finger at someone else and blame them. I still don't see how martin could do anything so heinous as to get a five year ban for it, while schutte and efrain walk away with the equilvilant of a slap on the wrist. That is complete bull.

Martin is innocent. Why? There was a week or so after worlds where there were a bunch of posts on lafonte about schutte and efrain getting caught stealing other players' backpacks and folders. All of us posted our input, and Martin mentioned that he was interviewed by the cops. He essentially told the same story he had in the opening post on this thread. Martin has no reason to lie about it to his buddies on the message board, so that post must also have been the truth. Remember that the post came several weeks before Martin was banned, therefore there was no reason to lie about it.
 
Everyone who took part in this conspiracy should be banned longer than Jon Snary.



There's so many other things I want to say, but I don't see how my 1 voice would be helping or hurting anyone. Everything that needs to be said is out on the table.
 
The pathetic guilty parties are already withdrawing. As soon as this martin guy and his pals started busting out with the decisive evidence, the rotten, jealous TO person, whatever their worthless name is, started backing off. Hilarious. I know guilt when I see it, and I don't even know you people.

Obvious to me and anyone else browsing this thread, this martin guy is innocent.

I laugh whole-heartedly at the fools who attempted such a lame conspiracy. Jealousy is disgusting.

Martin, I don't know you, but, when this is all over and done, you and me should play a game.

Oh, and to the guys who attempted such a childish conspiracy and did an awful job hiding it on here, wow, you guys really need to take some lessons. This is where the big kids play, if you're gonna pull a heist, do it right, amatuers.
 
WOW... just... wow. Ok, since I am not in the lafonte crowd anymore (i can only blame myself........) I don't know what was said there by either parties. BUT after a few discussions with Martin, witnesses, and friends who know the story I have come to this conclusion.

Martin was wrongfully banned for a ridiculous amount of time. Martin's story was correct. In my opinion, there are a few holes near the end (not story twisting ones). Martin probably drank too much (if he was banend for underage drinking does this mean that about 20 other people will be banned for 5 years toooo??????), and on his way to his room he might of been just a little coockoo. But SANE he isnt going to willingly give a bunch of idiotic kids illegal substances? (seriously... stealing 10 thousand dolloars worth of cards? do you think people would notice you carrying 20+ pokemon backpacks onto the plane??? and for the record... the accounts of the victims of this flat out said the theifs thought all of it through... so this means according to the liars, that a bunch of kids... on pot, ecstasy, vodka, and beer went around and stole 20+ peoples cards like true *skilled* thiefs??? come on)

OK... so. About this Brittany girl (i really dont want to offend you but I am just saying what i think) You might of lied about being 18 (buut.... 2006-1988=18? yeah... what the heck phil?) even if you are 17. SO... if you were 17 (but your 18) and you were involved with Martin somehow... Why would this be an issue?! Spending time with someone at a pokemon event most definatly DOES NOT get someone banned for 5 years. And even if she was 17 and spent time with Martin in a place PUI paid for them to be at... doesnt add up to 5 years. Maybe one......... but no, I doubt this is the first case of this happening.

Alright, I feel the need to speak up here.

You guys are all overlooking the fact that it was a letter by Nick Schutte's mom, Lauri Hess (not Laura Schutte, as Martin said.) that ultimately brought on Martin's ban. So you can point fingers at anyone for spreading rumors or the truth getting twisted, but you can't blame getting banned on Nick Eskey (Darksight) or Matt Dunford.

This is all pure assumption here, but... I think the reason for the ban was providing alcohol to Nick Schutte and Efrain Guerra who commited the theft on Sunday night in their inebriated state. According to Schutte, they got the alcohol from your room. This was stated in both Nick's apology letter and Lauri's letter. (They're two seperate letters, in case some of you missed that.) Both Nick and Efrain earned their ban obviously, but I doubt either of them would do anything like steal that much stuff in a right state of mind. So PUI, after multiple reports of you supplying the alcohol banned you for doing so.

That's just my conclusion.
 
Note: I've added a clarification to post number 9 for those who have trouble following multiple sentence clauses.
