Pokemon 2010 VGC Support & Discussion

^ Umm.... Trust me, Lati@s usage is much higher than Blissey or Empoleon. And why DV Smeragle when you can get a DV Darkrai? Also, Garchomp usage has dropped a bit, being overshadowed by the likes of Groudon.

You cannot use darkrai. All pokemon received exclusively from events (deoxys/darkrai/arceus etc.) are banned.

Latias in an uber enviorment with pokemon like Mewtwo (icebeam) Rayquazza(dragon dance+outrage) And Dialgia/Palkia, who both resist all of his attacks...IMHO would not be a good play.

Latias was good in an enviormet where there were no ubers, which is why you saw him last year, and even then the top players didnt use him so much. l'll put my blissey against latios ANY day
toxic+protect+soft boiled+seismic toss

Very VERY hard match up for latios

IMO- skill and stratagy is what makes Pokemon battling fun. Banning moves, hold items, and restricting Pokemon is a way to set up a fair environment for the "general" players who do not battle at "Pro" status. Of all the tourny's that I set up and host- you would understand some of the issues that arise. Out of the millions of game copies sold, only a select few players know how to ev train, know anything about iv's, and do not know that stats are important when it comes to setting up teams for stratagy- especialy when it comes to double battling. So I say this: let the general public have their "faves"- it does not mean they will have an undeaftable team. There is more to battling then just having a couple of "faves" in your party and expecting that you have a winning team. But let them use their faves to keep them happy and wanting to participate. Without that, we would not have as many people to battle against. Restrict an event to much, and you will not have success, because you will detuer to many people. If we claim that we are as good as we say we are, then I for one look at the the Pokemon now being allowed is just another challenge.

Nicely put. I also plan on playing with my favorites but I have to do something about Kyoger, Mewtwo and maybe Palkia.

Look at it this way- worry about how your opponent is going to counter your strategy.
There are plenty of good hold items, berries, and move sets to make so many possible teams.......
and yes, some of the under-used Pokemon have their day at the tournies- nothing like your opponent sticking Kyoger out and you stick out Lanturn- (and groudon is weak to Lanturn as well) they laugh, and then you KO the oger-
and since Kyoger and Groudon have fissure and shear cold- that is the most tempting move most players use becouse it is ohko- even if the ohko does hit- hopefully you have already put the defending Pokemon in the red or ko'd it with two good ev/iv Poke's of your own...........

The difference it makes in doubles is AMAZING, and cant be underestimated...lol
Follow Me Electivre+Kyorge Calm Mind

Thunder is prolly the only way to deal with the water giant, instead you hit and activate electivres Motor Drive. now if Electivire Survives, he's Fast enough to KO whatever threat you have to deal with kyorge, and with a clam mind boosted water spout...Good luck,

Taunt Will be So important...which is what im teaching my mewtwo

Sorry to off topic from the stargazing, but the tournament itself was a let down last year to me.
I don't know about this year.
Will it be HG/SS only or will it be held to PLT.
Last years felt like a real run around since it was only by drawing.
If there is one this year I am gonna have to pass.
I liked the JAA better.
You had to answer a quiz to find out if you really knew what you where doing.
I did see some good matched, but I played others who had much more skill then me and most I saw in the tournament.

It will probably going to require HeartGold and SoulSilver as they are the new game this year.
I agree that the entry method was pretty bogus, but other than gripe and complain there is nothing that can really be done.

i agree with you completely about the jaa and there needing to be a quiz or something so people just don't hack and then get the spots of people who have been planning, breeding and training to get ready.

it seemed really unorganized because the turnout in JAA and in 08 they had an exteremely high turnout and you would think they would accomidate as many as they could instead of limiting it to only around 100. hopefully they make it easier to detect fakes so if there are more locations and the closest one isn't 6 hours away i won't be detered away from coming again

IMO we probably won't see much Dialga/Palkia. Kyogre will of course be a major fixture on Rain Dance teams, and Groudon for Sunny Day teams. Latios is simply a brutal sweeper along the lines of Garchomp (thankfully, I believe Soul Dew is still banned), and Giratina is "the Great Wall."

I'm actually building an Ubers stall team that utilizes both Giratina and Lugia. It's actually pretty good, so perhaps throwing in two OU Walls (NOT Blissey) could make this suitable for VGC.

Dialga and Palkia resist the common attacking types and strongest moves of Ubers - Thunder, Water Spout, Spacial Rend/Draco Meteor/Outrage, etc. A Palkia with Haban won't be OHKO'd by practically every Dragon attack (you would need a Modest Latios with Life Orb or Choice Specs to guarantee it.) Dialga is still killed by the fairly common EQ, and Groudon/Kyogre have an Abomasnow/Ludicolo weakness. Rain teams will be walled by Shedinja as well.

Mewtwo's fairly fragile, and an SD Rayquaza (with Togekiss support) can be very deadly, but his Air Lock will come in quite useful as a way to stop Swift Swim and Chlorophyll.

No opinion on Lugia/Gira (O)/Ho-oh, I haven't used them enough.

The Main thing that i like about his year that no one has mentioned, is the auto level down feature, that allows you to use pokemon who learn moves beyond 50 to be played or even allows pokemon like dragonite to be playable, that being said...

allowing These ubers basically swings this to an uber match up, even if you play a trick room uber team it will be the same pokemon repeatedly, especially in the national and world finals

The Ubers being added completely shakes up this metagame. Because of their stats and movepool, they can do practically anything you want. Trick Room, Rain, Goodstuffs, Sun, and Stall all receive huge boosts. Pokemon with moves that they learned at levels higher than 50 can finally use them (likeMoonlight Cresselia)

But, in the end, the inclusion of the Ubers doesn't guarantee victory. If their opponent is someone who knows how to use the Ubers very well, a person using a team without Ubers is sure to fail. The main focus of doubles (which is team synergy) hasn't changed with the 10 new additions (Tyranitar can now be used) - it's been expanded by their inclusion, and things that you may not have looked at last year now become more viable or easier to use.

i agree with muk man, its going to be like the JAA tourny if this is the actual banned list. every single team who made it to the final 8 at my tourny had at least 3 of the following: groudon, kogrue* snorlax or metagross. this is from what i remember. if people are using pokes like that there is no room for creativity or orginality in developing a team. its going to be people using all of the highest tier'd legends with garchomp and metagross since sunny day and rain dance will run the entire tourny because of those two legends

I really think all non ubers will be
Garchomp- just too good not use
Metagross- counters all those trick room teams, and can handle the ubers
blissey- it's blissey enough said
empoleon- defensive stats, resistence to dragon and ice and great attacks
Scizor - we all know how good scizor is!
gengar - his speed and ability to ohko mewtwo, giritina, and deal serious damage to lugia, makes him a good option, plus he can learn thunderbolt
Snorlax, just cause he's a favorite.
Tyranitar-sandstorm-crunch earthquake( take out kyorge first...lol)
Heatran- comon it's heatran! it really SHOULD be an uber!

dragonites weakness to icebaem+thunder+dragon attacks and its speed make it bait in an uber format
same with salamence

infernape is great, but it just doesnt hit hard enough+plus weakness to water+earthquake +psychic+ flying...lol exactly

I really wish they would announce the format for this year...unlike the Card Game, the video game takes real preperation, i mean buying a card and practicing is NOTHING like IV breading, and NOTHING like EV training...and the rules will basically determine which pokemon see play so i hope the say SOMETHING SOON!

I have yet to see anything more than "maybes" about this question, so answer it legitimently.

Is there an auto level-down part where 100s go down to 50s? If so, yay. My HM slave Groudon
finally becomes a threat.

Yes Garchomp and metagross are good in this metagame, but I have yet to see a very successful blissey or empoleon, scizor is ehh getting beat down by zapdos+garchomp, gengar and snorlax have a big effect on this meta game while heatran hasn't been a major component. And T-tar hasn't been used but it might be useful.

Yes HG/SS has auto leveling in the upstairs part of the pokemon center that levels all pokemon down to level 50 and pokemon that are under level 50 will stay their level.

heatran is too slow in doubles...and with earquake being super popular and his 4x weakness too it he's not as dangerous as empoleon... Not to mention water spout OMG! empoleon has Resistance to dragon, ice, and water...in an uber format that makes it a great play, his downfall is his slim movepool, but if you're not running kyorge, or palkia, hes a VERY solid play

Game Set And Match!
Which is why ubers is bad...that being said

another 2 weeks and still no word...

Rain all day every day get ready for it

Not necessarily, there are plenty of now-viable Sunny Day teams with perma sun from Groudon. Though yeah, there will likely be a larger number of Rain Dance teams with Kyogre. Shouldn't count out any SS (T-tar) or Hail (Aboma, etc) either imo.
